Rogers 43, Springdale 42

ROGERS — Sophomore Jeb Brain’s 20-yard touchdown run and subsequent two-point conversion with 52 seconds left lifted Rogers High to a thrilling 43-42 win over Springdale High in the season finale for both teams Friday.

A last-second Springdale pass fell incomplete in the end zone as the Mounties hung on for the victory.

Rogers (2-8, 1-6) avoided a last-place finish with the win, while the Bulldogs (0-10, 0-7) dropped their 13th straight game dating back to last year.

Springdale junior quarterback Fuller Chandler threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs back from a 28-0 deficit late in the first … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville 45, Fayetteville 2

BENTONVILLE — When Destyn Adkins fell on a fumble and ended Fayetteville’s first possession, it appeared as a simple break for Bentonville at the time.

Little did anybody at Tiger Stadium know that it was a sign of things to come Friday night. Bentonville’s defense accounted for five turnovers and turned one into a score, and the Tigers rolled to a 45-2 victory over Fayetteville in the regular-season finale for both 7A-West Conference teams.

“You never think that this is going to happen,” Bentonville coach Barry Lunney said. “You never sit and think the other team is … Continue Reading ››

Springdale Har-Ber 35, Rogers Heritage 12

SPRINGDALE — Springdale Har-Ber proved to just be too much for Rogers Heritage to handle Friday night.

The Wildcats offensive line opened holes for backs to run through time and again and also gave quarterback Caleb Daniels plenty of time to throw. The end result was a dominating 35-12 Har-Ber victory.

Junior running back Luke Hannon, who leads the 7A-West Conference in rushing, racked up 111 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, but he had plenty of help. Sophomore Trey Smith chipped in 91 and junior Sione Nassila added some tough yards inside.

Har-Ber (3-7, 3-4 7A-West) snapped a four-game losing streak … Continue Reading ››

West Fork 22, Greenland 13

WEST FORK — With a 3A-1 Conference championship on the line, West Fork took Greenland’s best shot for most of the first half.

The Tigers then delivered the knockout blow after intermission.

Colton Wise hit Louie Crawford with a 23-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to give West Fork its first lead of the game, and the Tigers turned to a physical running game and big-play defense to do the rest in pulling away for a 22-13 win over the Pirates at Tiger Stadium.

With the victory West Fork (9-1, 7-0 3A-1) completed a perfect run through conference play, but it … Continue Reading ››

Greenbrier clinched the No. 2 seed from the 5A-West with a convincing 52-19 win over rival Vilonia at Don Jones Stadium.

The Panthers led the entire game, but didn't score until their second drive. After its offense threw an interception inside the red zone, Greenbrier's defense recovered a fumble and marched down the field for the first score of the game, capped by a 4-yard touchdown run by Karson Matthews.

Vilonia was forced to punt on the ensuing possession and Austin Porter returned it 95 yards to put Greenbrier up 12-0.

Rogers High To Hold Benefit Auction For Sr. Football Player

ROGERS — The Rogers High football team will hold a silent auction for Mounties senior Jackson Carter before Friday's 7A-West Conference football game against Springdale High at Whitey Smith Stadium.

Carter is currently in a Texas hospital battling Leukemia and is expected to undergo a bone marrow transplant soon. Proceeds from the silent auction will help offset Jackson’s medical bills.

One of the top items in the auction was provided by former Mounties offensive lineman Lee Ziemba. Ziemba was a four-year starter at Auburn and was on the Tigers 2010 National Championship team before going on to play in the NFL.

Siloam Springs Could Be In Interesting Situations

Talk about the game inside the game.

That's what Siloam Springs' football team could face Friday night with its game at Russellville.

Siloam Springs (3-6, 1-5 7A/6A Central) can earn a No. 2 playoff seed with a win, which would give the Panthers a 2-1 mark against 6A schools. Russellville (2-7, 0-6), on the other hand, needs to win by 3 or more points in order to force a three-way tie and earn a playoff berth, which would eliminate Siloam Springs from postseason play.

It will make things very interesting if it's a really close game Friday night. Follow me as I take … Continue Reading ››
