NWA Fall Sports Notebook — Week 1

Bentonville's boys tennis team came away from Arkansas Tech's courts with a little bit more than the inaugural Arkansas Team Tournament trophy last weekend.

The Tigers also came away with a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming weeks as the regular season progresses.

"I think this is going to get us ready for conference play a lot sooner than we normally would," Bentonville coach Nick Nersesian said. "It gave me the flexibility to mix and match with some people, in both doubles and singles, and chart the caliber of athletes we played.

Class 5A-7A Football Notebook – Week 1

Rogers High Coach Mike Loyd wasn't too concerned about the final score in last week's two-quarter scrimmage, but he's worked to correct several mistakes from the 7-3 loss at Russellville.

The Mounties started with six dropped passes in their first two offensive series and also gave up a pair of big plays on Russellville's final offensive series that lead to the only touchdown.

"We have a young football team and we'll get better," Loyd said. "A safety missed a call and didn't communicate. If they don't have their phones, they don't know how to communicate. It cost us even in a scrimmage.
