Tang is back for Rogers High

Rising senior Katherine Tang will play tennis for Rogers High this fall, Lady Mounties girls tennis coach Matt Fulton said. Tang did not compete last fall. As a freshman and a sophomore, Tang teamed with her older sister, Tiffany, to win the Class 7A state doubles championship and the Overall doubles championship. Tiffany, who won four Class 7A and Overall championships (2 doubles-2 singles), is currently a student at Rice University

Smaller classification schools eye spring football

It’s not just the large schools that will be returning to the football field this month. Schools in the smaller classifications will also get a jump on the fall season. Some of the schools, particularly those who have a number of multi-sport players that are still involved in baseball or soccer, will delay the start of their spring football workouts until after the state tournaments for spring sports. For example, Prairie Grove coach Danny Abshier will not start football practices until May 11, which is the same time Class 5A Farmington will also kick off its spring schedule. New reclassification numbers causes changes in schools

The Arkansas Activities Association released the numbers for the 2016-18 reclassification cycle Thursday. Here are some of changes that will take place, beginning in the fall of 2016. Class 7A — The emergence of Bentonville West causes West Memphis to drop to Class 6A. Because of the Bentonville split, Springdale High will now be the state's largest school in attendance, with a three-year average of 2440.33 students in grades 9-11. Class 6A — The new schools are West Memphis and Jacksonville, which will consolidate with Class 5A North Pulaski. Alma and Little Rock Parkview will drop out.
