Springdale Schools to Live Stream Via YouTube, App

Springdale High and Springdale Har-Ber will each live stream their football games this fall on their respective YouTube accounts and via new iPhone apps.

Users can access school-specific information by downloading the NIAAA app from the iTunes app store and then selecting the state of Arkansas and city of Springdale within the app. Streaming via the app and YouTube will take the place of traditional radio broadcasts for both schools.

Overtime allowed in nonconference games

Arkansas high school football teams will be able to play overtime periods in nonconference games this season.

A proposal to change the rule passed by a vote of 179-10 Wednesday at a meeting of the Arkansas Activities Association's governing body in Little Rock. The rule change will take place immediately.

Previously, teams were not allowed to play overtime in nonconference games, resulting in six tied outcomes last season. The rule pertained to only games played in the state,  however, meaning some Arkansas teams were involved in nonconference overtime games out of state.

The results of nonconference games don't impact postseason seeding in Arkansas.

Q&A with new Springdale coach Jeremy Price

Jeremy Price was hired as Springdale High’s new head basketball coach July 3 after the Bulldog alum spent a year serving as an assistant under former coach and current Fayetteville assistant Brad Stamps.

Price, who played on one of Springdale’s two state runner-up teams in 1998 and regularly sat on the bench for the 2014 runner-up squad while serving as a junior high coach, takes over the job after the Bulldogs went 11-17 and finished sixth in the 7A-West but won a game at the state tournament in Stamps’ final year. Gravette’s Turner signs with Missouri Valley

Cole Turner, a 2015 Gravette graduate, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Missouri Valley College, an NAIA program in Marshall, Mo. Turner (6-foot-5) averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game for the Lions last season and scored a season-high 28 points in one game. “Cole’s versatility made him a tough matchup for opponents,” Gravette coach Greg White said. “I believe his best basketball is ahead of him.”

New Proposals Await Schools’ Vote

The following is a list of proposals that school representatives will vote on during the Arkansas Activities Association's annual meeting with the governing body, which will be held next month in Little Rock. Proposal No. 1 — If passed, swimming would be split into three classifications: 7A, 6A and remaining schools, effective next season. This proposal has Mountain Home written all over it. It came from Activity District 1-East and claims that Class 6A schools have "no chance at success at the state level whatsoever" because it competes against 7A schools. Providence Academy hires new baseball, strength coaches

Brent McConnell has been hired to head the baseball program at Providence Academy of Northwest Arkansas, it was announced this week. McConnell has been an assistant coach at Oklahoma prep baseball power Owasso for 19 seasons, helping the program earn 10 Class 6A state championships.
