Fayetteville-Fort Smith Southside… Here They Go Again

FBH FAYETTEVILLE SOUTHSIDE 005

The Class 7A state semifinals matchup drawing the most attention tonight is no doubt taking place in the central part of the state, as perennial power Bentonville heads to War Memorial Stadium to face 7A-East Conference champion North Little Rock. With the 7A-West having what some consider to be a 'down' year, the Charging Wildcats (10-1) could have this postseason penciled in as the one where the streak of championships in the West finally ends.

But while many eyes will be focused on Bentonville-North Little Rock, it's the other … Continue Reading ››

Rogers Girls Def. Prairie Grove

Rogers High found its touch from the perimeter Tuesday night.

After making just one 3-pointer in its first two games of the year, the Lady Mounties hit five 3-pointers in the first half against Prairie Grove to start an easy victory over the Lady Tigers in King Arena.

Brooke Sagely led Rogers with 13 points behind one 3-pointer while Madison Sandor finished with 10 points after hitting two 3-pointers. Five different Rogers players had at least one 3-pointer.

“It was nice to see the ball go in the hole,” said Rogers coach Preston Early. “It took some pressure off and we relaxed.”

Boys: Rogers 68, Prairie Grove 29

ROGERS — Rogers High was a different team Tuesday night.

Just 24 hours after suffering an 18-point loss at Huntsville, the Mounties dished it out and Prairie Grove was on the receiving end.

Rogers scored the game’s first 11 points and the Mounties never looked back in posting a 68-29 victory over the Tigers. Ten different Rogers players scored with Josh Boaz leading the way with 13 points while Milacio Freeland added 10. Carson McCullough and George Black both added eight points each for the Mounties (2-1).

“Very proud of our guys,” said Rogers coach Wayne Herren. “I liked how we played hard. … Continue Reading ››

Springdale-Russellville Notes + Observations

Here are tidbits from my notebook from Springdale High’s basketball trip to Russellville. The Lady Bulldogs won 64-51 to improve to 2-0, while the Bulldogs lost 64-51 to drop to 2-1.

GIRLS

  • Springdale was stuck in cruise control in this one for the better part of three quarters before turning it on and blowing Russellville out. The Lady Bulldogs trailed 15-13 after a quarter, led just 32-30 at halftime and trailed 40-38 midway through the third. Some of that may have had to do with the start of the game being delayed more than 30 minutes because the … Continue Reading ››

Boys Basketball: Russellville 64, Springdale 51

Andy Campbell and Kentrell Scott each scored 19 points to lead Russellville to a 64-51 victory Thursday night.

The Cyclones (0-2) built a lead early in the second quarter and Springdale (2-1) couldn’t catch up.

The Bulldogs struggled early to solve Russellville’s zone defense, which focused on slowing Springdale senior Chris Owens. And when they were able to get into a better flow offensively, they didn’t get stops as Campbell and Kris Patrick, who finished … Continue Reading ››

Girls Basketball: Springdale 64, Russellville 51

RUSSELLVILLE — Russellville led midway through the third quarter before Springdale High junior guard Kierra Lang helped wake Springdale up and led the Lady Bulldogs to a 64-51 win Tuesday night.

Lang scored nine of her 16 points during a 24-1 Springdale run spanning the latter stages of the third quarter and an early portion of the fourth. The run included 17 straight Lady Bulldog points and turned a 40-38 deficit into a big lead.

But maybe more important was Lang’s defense on Russellville guard Alyssa Owens during the run. Owens scored all 18 of her points in the second and third quarters … Continue Reading ››

Boys Basketball: Springdale 48, Mountain Home 34

Seniors Chris Owens and TreShawn Gause combined for 39 points to lead Springdale High to a 48-34 road victory at Mountain Home on Saturday.

Owens scored 10 of his game-and season-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, while Gause finished with 11 points as the Bulldogs (2-0) cruised to the double-digit victory. Springdale led 23-9 at halftime.

The Bulldogs play at Russellville on Tuesday.

Girls Basketball: Springdale 52, Mountain Home 31

Springdale High jumped out to a 17-3 lead after one quarter and 12 Lady Bulldogs scored in a season-opening 52-31 win at Mountain Home on Saturday afternoon.

Senior guard Ja'Vonda Daniels was the only Springdale player to score in double figures, knocking down two 3-pointers and finishing with a game-high 14 points as the Lady Bulldogs (1-0) showcased their depth in the blowout. Junior post Ryann Goodsell and sophomore post Precious Brown each scored six points.

Fayetteville 42, Conway 35

AN-Fay-Con2

CONWAY — The scoreboard might have read like a shootout. But it a was good old fashion dose of ground and pound that made the difference for Fayetteville on Friday.

With a passing game struggling for consistency early in the game — and mistakes hurting Fayetteville’s chances through the first half — the Bulldogs turned to running backs Luke Rapert and Terrance Rock. And the two answered the call, churning out the scoring drives and chunks of yards necessary in a 42-35 Class 7A quarterfinals win against Conway at John McConnell Stadium.
