FORT SMITH — Daevon Johnson entered Friday night with two sacks this season.

The Fort Smith Southside junior defensive end equaled that number in the first quarter and had nearly tripled it by the end of the evening.

Johnson finished with a career-high 5.5 sacks as Southside’s defense dominated for most of the night in a 24-7 playoff-clinching win over Springdale High on Senior Night.

It was a breakout game for Johnson, who had 14 sacks and earned all-state honors as a sophomore.

SPRINGDALE — Springdale Har-Ber returned two of its three interceptions for touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated Fort Smith Northside 48-7 on homecoming night at Wildcat Stadium.

With the win, Har-Ber (8-1, 6-0) clinched a share of the 7A-West Conference championship and a first-round bye for the state playoffs. Har-Ber can win its first outright conference title with a win at Rogers Heritage Friday.

ROGERS — Fayetteville quarterback Taylor Powell threw four touchdown passes and running back Javontae Smith rushed for two more scores as the Bulldogs jumped on Rogers High early and often in a 63-10 victory over the Mounties in a 7A-West Conference game.
