Boys: Gravette 67, Berryville 65 (OT)

Kyle Fox knew the game was in his hands from the moment he took the inbounds pass and headed down the court.

With the game tied at 65 and time winding down in overtime, Gravette's senior guard held onto the ball and never passed it. He eventually drove to the free-throw line and sank a bucket as time expired, giving the Lions a 67-65 win over Berryville in 4A-1 Conference action Friday night in Berryville.

Berryville had tied the game with 30 seconds left when Gravette coach Greg White said he called for former North Carolina coach Dean Smith's … Continue Reading ››

The Rogers High Lady Mounties just missed pulling off an upset to start the 7A-West Conference slate when they fell 46-41 to Springdale Har-Ber in overtime Friday.

Free-throw shooting was the difference in the game. Ha-Ber made 21 of 27 (78 percent) while Rogers was only 12 of 26 (46 percent) from the line. The Lady Mounties had a chance to win the game in regulation but they could not get a shot off.

“I don’t want any of our kids to feel personally responsible," Early said. "But for whatever reason, maybe we lost our confidence, we couldn’t make our free … Continue Reading ››

The holidays are in the rearview mirror and basketball teams can focus their attention on the start to conference play.

The schools in Class 4A and under have already opened league play, while those in 5A/6A/7A opened league play this week.

Class 5A

Farmington drew the unenviable task of starting 5A-West play at home against Maumelle on Friday. The Cardinals fell behind early, then rallied in the second quarter before falling 82-61 to the ultra-talented Hornets.

Farmington's girls also fell Friday night 59-52 top open league play.

Class 4A

Huntsville's boys have proven that size does not matter as the Eagles are soaring … Continue Reading ››

Bentonville Basketball: The Week That Was

It took Bentonville's girls two minutes to get untracked during their 7A-West Conference opener Thursday night against Fort Smith Southside. The Lady Tigers were in high gear after that and enjoyed the start of league play with a 67-38 victory in Tiger Arena. After falling behind 4-0 in the first 80 seconds, Bentonville (12-1, 1-0) scored the next eight points and eventually outscored Southside 24-4 over the remainder of the first quarter. Bentonville's boys can't say the same. The Tigers played Thursday's game with Malik Monk on the bench, and they started 7A-West play on the wrong foot with … Continue Reading ››

State Basketball Report – Jan. 8

We’re a little over a week into 2016, which means conference play is getting underway across the state.

Here are a few storylines to keep an eye on during tonight’s games, as well as the rest of the season.

SEC Signees

Five SEC signees are in their final seasons of high school basketball in Arkansas.

The headliner of the group is Bentonville’s Malik Monk, a consensus five-star recruit. He signed with Kentucky during the early signing period, choosing the Wildcats over Arkansas in a much-publicized recruiting battle.

In the River Valley, fans will have an opportunity to see a pair of them in back-to-back games … Continue Reading ››
