7A-West Softball Notebook

Rogers Heritage The Lady War Eagles started 7A-West Conference play well with a 12-1 win over Springdale High on Tuesday.

Heritage's Lora Brown led the offensive barrage going 3-for-4, including two home runs, and six RBIs. Brittney Dean also had three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice for Heritage (3-1), which banged out 12 hits. Pitcher Sarah Pollock allowed just one hit and one run (unearned), while striking out nine and walking two.

7A-West Girls Soccer Notebook

Fayetteville The Lady Purple'Dogs are 5-1 heading into Tuesday's home match against Bentonville, which is the 7A-West opener. Cabot handed Fayetteville its only setback, a 4-0 loss on Friday. But it bounced back with a 1-0 win against Maumelle on Saturday during the Harrison Tournament.

It was Fayetteville's second tourney after it won the Fort Smith Tournament the previous weekend. With 12 seniors gone off of last season's 7A state semifinalist team, winning a tourney was a welcome start to the season.

7A-West Boys Soccer Notebook

Fayetteville

Joe Thoma is back leading the boys’ program, which he began in 1990, after coaching the Fayetteville girls team only the past several seasons.

“It’s been a lot of fun coaching them again,” Thoma said. “It feels like we’re kinda of back to where we started and we had a fun opening weekend.”

After opening the season by losing against Bryant 5-4 on shootouts (the match ended 0-0) and 2-1 against DeQueen, the Bulldogs (3-2) have won three straight matches heading into Tuesday’s 7A-West Conference opener against Bentonville at 5:30 p.m. Harmon Field.
