Springdale Football By The Numbers

Springdale junior quarterback Fuller Chandler.
Springdale fell to 0-3 with a 44-20 road loss to Bixby, Okla., on Friday.

Here’s a by-the-numbers look at the Bulldogs.

451 — Yards of total offense allowed by the defense Friday, the second time in three games an opponent has topped the 450-yard mark.

280 — Receiving yards through three games for senior receiver Salvador Sandoval, a team-high. He has a team-best 16 catches and his two touchdowns are tied for the team lead with senior Chris Owens, who has nine catches for 183 yards and … Continue Reading ››

4A-1 Race Should Be A Doozy

FILE PHOTO -- Cedric Duarte of Gravette has exploded out of the gate with more than 600 yards rushing and 8 TDs for the Lions.
The preliminaries are over. It's time to get down to the serious business at hand as conference play begins this week across the state.

The 4A-1 Conference race promises to be a dogfight from start to finish with no clear cut favorite, but plenty of worthy teams that should be in the race for the league title all the way to the … Continue Reading ››

Fayetteville 24, Muskogee (Okla.) 10

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Fayetteville turned to the old bag of tricks at just the right time Friday night.

With the offense sputtering for much of the first half, the Bulldogs had a chance to build some breathing room just before intermission. And thanks to two plays of trickery, that’s just what Fayetteville did en route to a 24-10 win against Muskogee (Okla.) at The Indian Bowl.

Senior Dre Greenlaw got the Fayetteville drive going just before half, taking a reverse handoff and tossing a 42-yard, wide-receiver to wide receiver pass to Bruce Armstrong to set the Bulldogs up at the Muskogee 22. … Continue Reading ››

  • Greenland 24, Gentry 15

GENTRY — Greenland saved its best for last Friday night.

The Pirates erased a 15-0 halftime deficit and dominated the fourth quarter to claim a 24-15 win over Gentry in nonconference football at Pioneer Stadium.

Greenland (2-1) got two fourth-quarter touchdowns from junior quarterback Cole Self to shake off a dreadful first half.

The Pirates, who did not make a first down in the first half, came up with a huge 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter to take the lead. Junior tailback Alex Sizemore did much of the work on the drive. But Self scored on a 2-yard keeper around … Continue Reading ››

    Bixby, Okla., 44, Springdale 20

BIXBY, Okla. — Bixby junior Nic Roller ran for 150 yards and three touchdowns as the Spartans scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to turn a tight game into a 44-20 win Friday.

Springdale (0-3) was in the game at halftime, trailing just 23-20, but key second-half injuries and a physical Bixby run game took their toll as the Spartans pulled away for a third straight win over the Bulldogs.

Bixby threw the ball 57 times while mounting an improbable comeback for a 45-38 win at Springdale High last year. Friday night, the Spartans pounded the ball with Roller to … Continue Reading ››

    Bergen Catholic (N.J.) 21, Bentonville 10

BENTONVILLE — Nunzio Campanelli would like to say the play Bergen Catholic called to score its final touchdown was done the way he had called it.

It was nowhere close, but it didn’t matter. It still did what it was supposed to — put enough distance between Bergen and Bentonville.

Corey Gaarn saw Emmanuel Appiah’s fumble roll into the end zone and picked up the loose ball just before it rolled out of bounds, and the team from Oradell, N.J., posted a 21-10 victory in Bentonville’s final nonconference game Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

“Obviously, you tell your … Continue Reading ››

Victory Christian (Okla.) 41, Shiloh Christian 27

Victory Christian's duo of Keats Calhoon and Jacoby Hicks were too much for Shiloh Christian (1-2) in a 41-27 loss on Friday in Champions Stadium.

Calhoon, a junior left-hander, hit Hicks 5 times in the second half for 252 yards and touchdowns of 80 and 92 yards as the Conquerors (3-0) rolled.

Shiloh Christian sophomore QB Connor Reece passed for 316 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss.

    Conway 31, Springdale Har-Ber 15

Conway scored 31 consecutive points to overcome an early deficit and defeat Har-Ber 31-15 Friday night.

A crowd of over 4,000 watched Har-Ber play its first game in its new $5.5 million stadium. The excitement on the home side continued when Har-Ber scored on its opening possession to take a 7-0 lead.

It was all Conway (3-0) after that.

“We told our kids it was probably going to take a series to get settled in,” Conway coach Clint Ashcraft said. “After that, we just started playing.”

Conway quarterback Breylin Smith threw for 349 yards, including 10 catches for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns by … Continue Reading ››
