Daniel Sprinkle, the younger brother of Arkansas tight end Jeremy Sprinkle, was named the MVP of the 5A state championship game Saturday afternoon.
The right-hander tossed a seven-inning complete game, allowing no earned runs on only three hits, as White Hall defeated Pulaski Academy 3-1.
Sprinkle needed 121 pitches to go the distance, while striking out eight batters and walking five. He also hit two batters with a pitch.

On the same day as Arkansas rallied from a 6-0 deficit to defeat Ole Miss 8-7 in the SEC Tournament, Arkansas commit Blaine Knight out-dueled Ole Miss commit Andy Pagnozzi.
Knight, a junior at Bryant High School, was named the 7A state championship game MVP after allowing no runs on only four hits in his six-inning complete game victory over Fayetteville.

Springdale Har-Ber benefited from a makeup game after most teams had finished with conference play.
It was against Bentonville, the team the Wildcats will challenge for the Class 7A state championship Saturday at noon at Razorback Field.
Bentonville (16-0-1) used a late goal by Tolliver Davis to win 1-0 and stay unbeaten. Har-Ber coach Nelson Medina said afterward he hoped his team could use the effort as a springboard to the state tournament.

The road to becoming Gatorade's girls soccer player of the year for Arkansas still makes a prominent stop in Bentonville.
Tayler Estrada won that award for three straight years before she graduated last year and took her talents to Kansas. Two other Lady Tigers — April Miller and Kelly O'Connor — earned that honor in previous years.

Lincoln has hired Scott Davenport as its head football coach.
Davenport was previously an assistant coach at Rogers Heritage. He replaces Brad Harris, who left Lincoln last month to accept the defensive coordinator position at Benton.
Lincoln is coming off its best season ever, finishing 11-2 and winning two playoff games before losing in the Class 4A quarterfinals. The Wolves have made the playoffs two of the past three seasons after going 16 years without a winning record.
Davenport played college football at Arkansas.

Fayetteville avoided a monumental upset at the Class 7A state baseball tournament on Saturday, rallying in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 6-5 win over Little Rock Central. The Bulldogs, clear favorites in this year's state tournament, needed a Kyle Pate 2-run home run after giving up a four-run rally to LR Central in the top of the seventh inning to avoid a quarterfinal round disaster.
