Arkansas Basketball Report 1.19.17

It’s not often an adoption makes headlines, but it does when it means one of the top teams in the state just got even stronger.

The Arkansas Activities Association ruled Thursday that Salisu Yahaya is immediately eligible to play after his adoption became official. The 6-foot-7 senior forward joins a Jonesboro team loaded with talent.

Prep Wrestling Notebook No. 4

Bentonville The Tiger enjoyed a banner week, notching a big dual win over Sprngdale Har-Ber on Thursday, then finishing third in the Branson (Mo.) Invitational on Saturday.

Bentonville coach James Rappe said his team bounced back, after a sub-par first round in Branson to come within 4.5 points of second-place Seneca, a defending state champion in Missouri.

ARPreps Spotlight: Springdale Har-Ber’s Karrington Whaley

SPRINGDALE – Springdale Har-Ber senior forward Karrington Whaley, a Henderson State University commit, is trying to will the Lady Wildcats toward their first 7A-West conference win.

She scored 16 points in Har-Ber's league opener, and coach Jaime Green will need more performances like that for her club to make a run at the state tournament.

Farmington this week

Both the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals picked up a pair of wins last week, winning games at Greenwood and at home against Clarksville. The Farmington boys sit at 13-3 overall and 2-0 in 5A/6A district play. Senior guard Matt Wilson went for a school record 50 points in the win against Clarksville, just over a week after scoring 49 in a win against Siloam Springs. Wilson will need another big effort this week as Farmington visits Alma on Tuesday, another top contender in the 5A/6A District 1. The Cardinals then close out the week on Friday at Russellville.
