As reported in Sunday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, junior college defensive lineman Marquel Combs along with his family was enthusiastic about his recent scholarship offer from Arkansas and chance to play closer to home.

Combs,6-3, 305, 4.95 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of Peirce Community College in Woodland Hills, Calif., is from Memphis and played his high school ball at Hamilton High School. Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida International and Utah have also extended offers.

“It’s football town, ” said Combs of Fayetteville. “That’s what I like about it.”

Combs also noted Arkansas being in the SEC as another plus for the Hogs.

“The SEC is really like the Little League of the NFL for college,” Combs said. “I expect if I come in and make an immediate impact and do  real good job and I’ll be NFL ready.”

Combs, who plans to graduate in December and enroll at his new school in January, recorded 34 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 recovered fumble and 1 blocked kick last year. He hopes to visit Arkansas in spring or summer.

“I just put everything in God’s hand and let him lead the way,” Combs said. “I just stay humble and focused and never be satisfied.”

A school’s coaching staff will be one the main focuses for Combs in finding the right fit for him.

” I’m real big on honesty and I like to be around people that are real,” Combs said. “So it’s going to be that and school environment and if it’s real college town. I want to be surrounded by football 24-7.”

Mr. Combs, come join the Hog Nation! We eat, breath, sleep football 24/7, 365 days a year. CBP is the most “straight shooter” you will ever find. He will prepare you for the next level.

If what he says is true then He will be a Razorback. I don’t see why he’d even hesitate. We are by far the best offer he has, our coaching staff couldn’t be more honest, and football is life down here. I mean seriously? Just commit already, come have an impact and then get ready to cash your check!

I bet Hugh Freeze was already on this guy as Arkansas State’s head coach, before he took the job at Ole Miss.

Jonesboro is right around the corner from Memphis.

On Combs, good size and a very good looking DL prospect. We’ll see, once he gets most of his offers in and if we’re still one of his top schools, hopefully so.
