On the Tuesday before National Signing Day, Arkansas moved fast in offering St. Louis junior running back Ezekiel Elliott a scholarship.

Elliott, 6-0, 205 , 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of John Burroughs high school also has offers from Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.  He said his coach emailed Arkansas his highlight video and was notified by offensive coordinator Paul Petrino the Hogs wanted to extend an offer the same day.

“That was a surprise,” Elliott said. “I wasn’t expecting it.”

Elliott called Petrino and was told Arkansas was excited about  him.

“He just wanted to get on top of things,” said Elliott, who plans to visit Arkansas on March 3. “They just finished with the class and wanted to get on to the class of 2013. ”

An offer from the Razorbacks was equally exciting for Elliott, who rushed 211 times for 1,802 yards and 34 touchdowns as a junior.

“It’s an SEC school, which is big ” said Elliott, who recorded 23 receptions for 401 yards and 6 touchdowns this past season.  “It was my first offer from a SEC school. They’re a team that contends every year.”

Elliot said his future school will have to have qualities he and his family like while also providing an environment that produces results on field and off the field.

“It has to be a nice balance of education,” said Elliott, who plans to major in sports medicine. “I want to go to a college where I can become the best man I can be along with being a football player.”

I like that we are being aggresive and going for a top recruiting class, but I love that fact that we are going after players who also want to make an impact off the field.

I love this kid. Isn’t he the one who scored 42 TDs. The article says 34 rushing and 6 receiving, so I guess he had a couple of kick off returns or something.

42 touchdowns? You really need a kid like that.

I think when the coaches saw this kids recieving ability, an offer was a no brainer

Remember D Mac how he would stiff arm players to the ground, thats the first thing i notice about this kid, he likes to use the stiff arm, you got to luv it.

Gojeo when you mentioned Dmac’s stiff arm I was a little skeptical . That kid has a wicked stiff arm.

I know sometimes the 40 times for players are exaggerated, so a kid who really runs a 4.55 is listed as running as running a 4.4. That said, there is no way Ezkiel runs a 4.5. He looks like a legit 4.4 or faster.

I’d love to see him in a Razorback uniform.

Crazy: listen to his interview on Shawn and Wally from tonight. He has awesome track times. He won state as a soph.
