RB Altee Tenpenny of North Little Rock isn’t sure if he’ll be able to visit Arkansas on Saturday because he’s taking the ACT. If he doesn’t visit,  he said he’ll visit March 3.

WR Austin Bennett of Manvel, Tx. will visit Arkansas on Saturday. He attends the same school as Hog signee/DE Taiwan Johnson.

Johnson said he’s told Austin how great the campus and coaches are at Arkansas. He said he has two offers but is really wanting one from the Razorbacks. Click here for Bennett’s highlights

After watching Bennett’s video, I hope they do offer him. He’s playing full speed on every play, very explosive on starting his routes & creates openings when things break down. Impressive highlights. Landing Pocic would be huge, very polished and dominant OT. I’ve been a fan of Maurice Smith for a while now, great ball skills and instincts that you can’t teach. As long as we can get him in for one of his official visits, I’m fine (Tenpenny). I have a feeling that Altee will make more than one visit this year (unofficial ones of course), hope he does well on his test, if it is this weekend.

  2. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Tenpenny is solid to Alabama. Time to move on.

  3. bigrick bigrick says:

I thought Alabama didn’t allow their commitments to visit other schools. Doesn’t sound like he is solid to me.

  4. mrprfct mrprfct says:

I believe that’s on official visits.

    Trust me. He’s solid.

  5. razorback roger razorback roger says:

mrprfct, I agree. time to move on to other running backs. after all these years of living close by the Razorbacks and so many visits, committed to Alabama. Don’t waste our time on the lad.

  6. hognick Hognick says:

I agree with mrprfct and rr on Tenpenny. He is 100% Bama. No interest in the Hogs. He will go to junior days and camps to improve his skills. Hate to miss out on another Arkansas kid but there is no chance (unless he has another season ending injury). That would not be the way I want to get him, though.

  7. mrc005 mrc005 says:

I think this does show he is solid to them. I think he will just keep stringing the coaches along and always have some reason why he can’t make it to campus. If he doesn’t come this weekend, i think he will make some excuse for march 3rd as well. I think he would only visit if he was wanting to flip to us and the only reason I think that would happen would be is if we had a great rushing year and bama didn’t.

  8. mrc005 mrc005 says:

i wanna throw this out there. since Klenakis has arrived, has our offensive line not gotten progressively worse?

  9. mrc005 mrc005 says:

or will this year decide that?

  10. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

mrc005, that is not a very bright comment on the offensive line. Really?? For real, for real??

  11. mrc005 mrc005 says:

excuse me randy? it was a question not a comment. that’s why it had a question mark at the end. i was asking for a statistical look at our o-line or a statement that said why people think our oline had trouble this year. not a “Really?? For real, for real??” statement, because that doesn’t really answer my question, for real it doesn’t.

  12. spaz cauleyhog says:

no dude our offensive line is really young….dont remember that were in a league with really really good D lines that have depth. …we will get there.

  13. boubalos boubalos says:

In college football, things change from year to year. Our best O line was a couple of years ago, but that is likely because we had better players with more experience. Last year’s O line was both young and with less experience. I expect next year’s line to be an improvement both experience wise and also athletically. We have two red shirts that should be very good to go along with the 1st and 2nd year guys from last year.

  14. hog70 hog70 says:

With James coming in this next class and the rb’s visiting this Spring, I’m not concerned one bit with Tenpenny. If he wants to go Bama, let him go. He’s not as good as the backs we have, the ones that coming, nor the ones we are recruiting. You can’t make someone love you…… I don’t understand it but I won’t lose sleep over it. Our RB stable looks better all the time with players who WANT to be Razorbacks! I love ‘em!

  15. mohogg mohogg says:

We wouldn’t even be talking about tenpenny if he wasn’t from Little Rock, home of the great stadium. Forget about him. In order to compete against really good defenses, we need O-Linemen who can play right away. It shouldn’t take four years to learn how to do it, i.e. Bailey, Swanson. They either can or can’t.

  16. mrc005 mrc005 says:

thanks cauley:i would have to disagree a little though. we had 2 redshirt seniors. cook and freeman (5th year of experience). 2 redshirt sophmores (3rd year of experience) bailey and swanson. and 1 freshman smothers or a junior peacock. smothers was the only young guy.

since everyone seems to compare us to bama on here. look at alabama: redshirt junior barret jones(4th year of experience) , junior chance warmack (3rd year of experience), senior william vlachos (5th year of experience), anthony steen redshirt sophomore (3rd year of experience) , dj fluker red shirt sophomore (3rd year of experienc).

so we had 2 guys on the team for 5 years, 2 with 3 years, and 2 with their first on this team, but 1 of them had 3 years total college experience. but for the sake of fairness. i will only count both of these as 1. so our total experience counting this year, 17 years of experience.
us: 5+5+3+3+1(3)= 17 years of experience or if you count all peacocks total experience, we had 19 years.
bama. 5+4+3+3+3= 18 years of experience.

we had 2 5th year players, bama had 1. we had 3 players who are in their 3rd and so did bama.

so looking at this, how is alabamas line, any “older” than ours? and theirs played much, much better.

  17. macman macman says:

Yea I’m not really sold on why Tenpenny is so highly ranked anyway. he had one good season and he is above guys that have had 3 good seasons. Yes his highlight video is good but why is he ranked so high. There are tons of RB with better stats and videos. All the RB we are recruiting look as good if not better but yet he is ranked higher.

  18. mohogg mohogg says:

Jame is twice the running back tenpenny is. saban will probably grayshirt him on signing day.

  19. mrc005 mrc005 says:

everyone says our o-line is young, but it really wasn’t. we will lose to 5th year seniors and starting in their place, will either be a redshirt junior and a sophomore, or 2 sophomores.
so next year we will be a younger o line than we were this year.

bailey and swanson will be in their 4th years, peacock will be in his senior year, 2nd with the team, and/ or stringer redshirt junior, 2nd with the team or brey cook and smothers (just a guess) 2nd with the team.

    so thats 4+4+4+4(or 2)+ 2= 18(or 16).
so evaluating this, we will have 1 less year total experience next year, or 3 if we start 2 true sophomores to replace our 2 5th year seniors. how will our line be any older next year? i don’t get it, but apparently others do.

  20. mrc005 mrc005 says:

if we go by younger or older, then next year will be a younger year. the year after, when davis and wilson are gone and assuming no olinemen leave early, we will have a older line than we had this year. what we can hope is that everyone who started this year and is still with the team improves, and everyone who takes over for a starter, does better than the starters we lost. but we cant really use the “young” o line excuse. thats why i asked, what people thought about the job Klenakis has done.

  21. woothog woothog says:

I know our oline was not good enough last year; bama was in our backfield on every play knocking down tw. I didn’t think I would ever miss ray dominguez, but I did. Don’t know if it is the coach or the players, though.

  22. mrc005 mrc005 says:

One reason I posed this question because one of our new hires is an o line coach. He has a different capacity this year, but could he have been brought in to replace coach K after next year, or the year after? Just a thought. I know recruits always talks very highly about coach K as a person and he is an innovator, I was just kinda thrown by us hiring a guy with o line coaching experience. Unless, it’s a backup plan for when coach k decides to maybe take a higher position somewhere else.

  23. woothog woothog says:

As far as running backs, it is strange that everyone seems to forget our struggles to get our running game going. I have heard so much yelling about green or wingo not living up to expectations, so how can we be confident just going by measurables? Actual talent is hard to recognize until it shows up in games. Yes we move on from Altee who may or may not be great, but he will no doubt be one of the higher ranked players in the state. The problem is we keep losing our highest ranked players each year. I don’t understand that.

  24. andrew Andrew says:

Years at a school isn’t the only factor of old or young. We had 2 years of returning sec starting experience, in bailey and Swanson. I’m not going to look up specifics but I know Barrett jones and William vlachos each had two years starting experience, and dj fluker had 1, for 5 years returning experience, minimum. And that’s your difference maker.

  25. andrew Andrew says:

Who did we hire that is an o line coach?

  26. mrc005 mrc005 says:

andrew: thank you, that makes since more sense to me. thats what i was asking about. my concern for next year is that we will have a redshirt junior in stringer and 1 true sophomore or 2 true sophomores, starting on our o line. so would you say that next year with them starting in place of 2 5th year seniors, that our line will be older or younger? better or worse?

  27. mrc005 mrc005 says:

jason schumaker was just hired as director of high school relations. he was an o line coach, OC, and even a head coach at smaller universitys.

  28. bigboi bigboi says:

macman says: Yea I’m not really sold on why Tenpenny is so highly ranked anyway. he had one good season and he is above guys that have had 3 good seasons.
    =========================================
Tenpenny has proven to be on another level athletically. He went to the camps and killed them last summer. If he is healthy this summer he might break the SPARQ record.

  29. mrprfct mrprfct says:

That doesn’t make him a great football player.

Cedric Cobbs was gifted athletically, but I would have rather had Fred Talley running the ball.

  30. razorback roger razorback roger says:

I am worn out on people like Tenpenny. He is wasting his and our time. Good riddance. Welcome Jamel James next year.

  31. jviking jviking says:

I say you keep making a run at everyone. At this time last year nobody thought Missouri had a chance at DGB. You never know who will flip any different direction. Never give up, never surrender.

  32. News Carver News Carver says:

Not a bad question Marc. Of all HDN’s assistants, the one that got the most accolades I thought was the O-line coach, (Markuson?) He was a good coach fm all accounts and we would put people in the NFL under him.

I think last yr was more of a reflection of a lack of recruiting success and having bad luck with injuries and defections, leading to starting true freshmen and 1st yr Juco.

I think Klenakis is a good X and Os coach fm what I read, and a good recruiter, but I agree, I think this year will tell more on that based on how the O-line performs. They can’t be our weakness this year if we are going to make Beano Cook look like a football genius.

  33. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Tenpenny won’t flip.

  34. mohogg mohogg says:

I will bet that Missouri thought they had a chance at him all along. I hope tenpenny doesn’t flip. He hasn’t shown much.

  35. bigboi bigboi says:

mrprfct says: That doesn’t make him a great football player.
    —————————————————————
Wasn’t my point, I was justifying his ranking. I haven’t watched much of his film, but if Saban wanted his commit in February that speaks volumes .IMO

  36. razorback roger razorback roger says:

I swear I think it goes something like this in the minds of Rivals and Scout sites. “OHHH Alabama is recruiting xyz guy…well hell he must be a friggin 5 star !!” ” Uhhh Arkansas is recruiting abc guy…he MUST be a 2 or 3 star dud..” so again I say screw the recruiting sites.

  37. mrc005 mrc005 says:

omg: bama already has more 4 star commits for 2013 than we had for this year. lol.

  38. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

A lot of people were saying to move on when Joe Adams committed early to USC (a program at their prime, similar to Bama now). A lot can happen in a year, it looks weak and doesn’t show recruits that we have confidence in them seeing us as a legit destination (it doesn’t look good to tuck your tail and back off local talent, when a big program comes in and goes hard after that player).

  39. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Regardless if they flip… although a bunch of people were also saying we didn’t have a shot at Peters this year. On the flip side, a lot of people thought Diamond & DGB were in the bag, in that case… a lot can happen in just a few days.

  40. razorback roger razorback roger says:

Like I said, I am just worn out by it all. I dont think the Adams thing is comparable to the Tenpenny thing. Adams did not want to play for HDN, neither did Mallett. CBP is a different matter. Tenpenny has been to Arkansas practices for quite a few years and still went with Bama. That is my final thought on him.

  41. mrprfct mrprfct says:

I know Tenpenny is solid ok. I’m not speculating. I know. Time to move on.
