Let’s go Hogs, these are the ones we’re supposed to win!

  2. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    Time to whoop some butt!!

    WPS!!! & GHG!!!

  3. PK PK says:

I’m thinking we get our first road W tonight.

Perfect time of the season to start getting hot…

  4. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Tonight’s the night, if we’re going to start a run at some postseason play…

  5. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

Tonight is the night. I was hoping last Sat would have been the day though, would have made leaving the game a little bit easier.

  6. beasley beasley says:

    Hello everyone.

  7. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

Hey there beasley! How are ya?

  8. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

This looks like it’s going to be one ugly game…

  9. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    Slow start, 8-2 them

  10. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Our play on the road is 100% inexcusable. We look like a bad junior high team so far.

  11. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    Young with a 3

  12. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Enter BJ Young and a 3-point basket. 8-5 Georgia at 14:00.

  13. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    And another!

  14. VantageHog VantageHog says:

BJ with another 3 pointer. Tied 8-8 .

  15. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Praise the lord for BJ. We had more walks than points until he came into the game.

  16. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Yeah, we’ve definitely been a Jekyll & Hyde team this year, in terms of home and road play…

  17. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    That was pitiful defense.

  18. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    12-8 them @ the under 12

  19. VantageHog VantageHog says:

They can’t use the “young team” excuse anymore if they’re serious about making the tourney. You don’t get to play those games at home. We also have the size advantage in this one, so they’re are no excuses if we lose.

  20. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    16-8 Bulldogs. It’s getting worse.

  21. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Ugly!

  22. vabeachhog vabeachhog says:

    Wow we look horrible

  23. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    #42 just pulled a Sanchez…

  24. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    Just wow

  25. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Yeah, that’s pitiful defense…

  26. VantageHog VantageHog says:

23-8 Bulldogs. 3 scoring plays so far out of 16 for the Hogs and no defense to be found anywhere.

  27. doubledpt doubledpt says:

Sanchez needs to donate his hands to skillets for the cooking impaired.

  28. batonrougehawg batonrougehawg says:

    23-8…

  29. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Double digits!

  30. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Anderson ain’t Nolan.

We are paying this man Top 10 money for this.

We fired Pelphrey for this type of play correct?

  31. vabeachhog vabeachhog says:

    We got a point! YAY!!!

  32. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    23-11 after a Nobles 3-point play

  33. vabeachhog vabeachhog says:

mrprfct should be our coach. He knows what’s up.

  34. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Impressive 3 pointer by Waithe. 26-14 dogs.

  35. mrprfct mrprfct says:

I know we can’t win on the road. I know we look like crap on TE road. We look really bad tonight. Disagree?

  36. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    This sucks!

  37. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Look at the guys we have coming in next year. We beat UCA for one guy and Jacksonville St. for the other. All 3 guys either play the 2 or 3. No inside help.

  38. vabeachhog vabeachhog says:

We look like we are playing “Between the Hedges” tonight.

  39. stnorm stnorm says:

Geez Mr. Perfect…..let’s see….first year…..not any of his own guys…..Clark transfers……best player goes down for the year early in season….playing mostly FR and SO……haven’t lost a game at home……won more than any expert predicted in pre-season…….Stop being unrealistic and STOP WHINNING…..at least they have been fun to watch most of the year…better than anything Pelphrey threw out there the entire time he was there!!!

  40. beasley beasley says:

Everybody has a great game against the hogs.

  41. razorback dude razorback dude says:

Hogs WILL come back in the second Half!!!!!!

  42. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Frank Haithe is winning in his first year.

Playing freshman sophomores doesn’t hurt Calipari.

  43. stnorm stnorm says:

We look exactly what MA said we would look like a lot this year…..he said it will not be 40 minutes of hell right away….here will be times when it’s 40 minutes of “what the hell”…..give him a chance. If they don’t win another game this year they have exceeded expectations this year.

  44. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Pel did have a full roster. CMA is basically coaching Pel’s recruited players (those that stayed)… look at how good Mizzou is doing this year with CMA’s players. It’s going to be more than a one year process / miracle job.

  45. mrprfct mrprfct says:

If I were BJ Young I’d declare for the NBA. I’d hate to come off the bench 2 years in a row.

  46. hognick Hognick says:

So what do you think we will be seeded in the NCAAs?

  47. marcm marcm says:

OMG, glad I’m not able to watch the game!!! I will say hello to all my fellow hog fans though.

  48. stnorm stnorm says:

We are “winning in our first year”….we’re 16-7. Stop overreacting.

  49. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Mizzou has what 7 players?

Mizzou’s post guy wanted to play for Pelphrey but got caught with the SEC JUCO rule.

  50. stnorm stnorm says:

I’m sure when this team is good in two or three years Mr. Perfect will be on here cheering them on and claiming he knew it all the time….with no mention of his negative, dumb, unrealistic comments of today. No doubt.

  51. jborohawg1718 jborohawg1718 says:

Give Missouri 2 years after all of mikes players have graduated and see what haith does.

  52. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Again, look at our recruiting class coming in ad telle how we are going to be good in 3 years? I doubt Young will be here then.

  53. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    41-19 Georgia.

  54. marcm marcm says:

Hognick, I don’t think will make the NCAA tourney.

  55. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Mike Anderson left the cupboard bare at Mizzou. He didn’t recruit at all last year. He got out while the getting was good.

  56. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Seriously on Coach Cal winning with freshman & sophs? Considering he lands a starting five of lottery picks just about every year… that makes a lot of sense.

  57. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Missouri’s roster

1 Phil Pressey 5-10 175 Guard SO Dallas, Texas Dallas Episcopal
3 Matt Pressey 6-2 195 Guard SR Dallas, Texas Navarro CC
10 Ricardo Ratliffe 6-8 240 Forward SR Hampton, Va. Central Florida C.C.

  58. hognick Hognick says:

That was extreme sarcasm. I wonder right now if we will ever be in the tournament again with this team.

  59. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Notice all the senior, no freshmen, 2 sophomores.

  60. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Goodness, arguing for the sake of arguing… same old, same old.

  61. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Are you being serious MrP? I really can’t tell.

  62. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Exactly, all CMA recruited players… so what point are you ‘trying’ to make?

  63. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Proving my point.

Anderson’s best year at UAB was his 2nd out of 4.

His best year at Mizzou was his 3rd out of 5. He was steadily declining.

  64. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

So who do you dislike more, Mike Anderson or Tyler Wilson?

  65. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Here are the Anderson’s guys coming in next year. Feel free to look at the other schools that offered them.

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/arkansas/basketball/recruiting/commitments/2012/arkansas-74

  66. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    I don’t dislike either person.

  67. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

You should email Jeff Long all of this AD info…

  68. VantageHog VantageHog says:

19 points might look like Mount Kilimanjaro with how absent we were in the first half, but we have the talent to overcome it if we can just get in some kind of rhythm.

  69. razorback roger razorback roger says:

Basketball…..ummm….when is spring football? Have to show me a lot lot more winning before I even pay attention to Ark basketball. just my opinion ya know

  70. News Carver News Carver says:

I had to work late and thought the game started at 7:30.

    What did I miss?

  71. News Carver News Carver says:

Did the Hogs have to work late too?

They showed up late also looks like.

how the heck is a cellar dweller SEC team got our score doubled at halftime??? WTHeck

  72. vabeachhog vabeachhog says:

You missed absolutely nothing. No offense, no defense.

  73. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    Just ask mr.paininthebutt.

  74. News Carver News Carver says:

I think Qualls might be a diamond in the rough, so I’ll give CMA the benefit of the doubt that he is a great evaluator of talent, but like Mrp is suggesting, he really didn’t do too well on the recruiting trail in his first go round, other than beating out bama for Williams. Now that was a good pull there.

  75. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Better start than the 1st half…

  76. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Haha, cheers Randy!

  77. News Carver News Carver says:

Having missed 18 minutes of the first half, I’ll assume the freshmen are still playing like freshmen on the road. They’re supposed to be playing like sophmores at this point in the season. Nolan would have them playing like sophmores by this time of the year.

Nolan’s players weren’t scared of playing on the road. Nolan’s player were only scared of Nolan.

  78. bsee1991 bsee1991 says:

We stink. We are making Georgia look like kentucky

  79. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    Cheers, buddy!

  80. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Anderson ain’t no Nolan.

  81. skezell skezell says:

I can’t lie; I’m disappointed in this game so far. However, I’m not going to jump just yet.

  82. marcm marcm says:

U can say that again and again……..

  83. oldhog oldhog says:

    Thank God for that!

  84. marcm marcm says:

CMA needs to break out nolans old cowboy boots!!!

  85. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

What’s funny is no one ever made the comparison, at least not on this thread…

  86. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    I think I’m ready for baseball…..like NOW!!!!

  87. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

We just need a DeLorean, some plutonium, and a flux capacitor.

  88. marcm marcm says:

    And track and field!!!

  89. joshua joshua says:

Shooting 29% from field…that’s nasty and embarrassing!!!

  90. News Carver News Carver says:

Yea, baseball season is looking pretty good right now….

batonrougehog and Randy calling a 3 run walk off homer to win the game…

We gonna be good this year!

  91. bsee1991 bsee1991 says:

All I can say is… Rmbarrassing

  92. joshua joshua says:

Georgia is a high team playing in front of a high school crowd and they are making us look this bad?!?! Tonight I’m embarrassed…may not be tomorrow or the next day, but tonight I’m embarrassed.

  93. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

We suck, no way around it.

  94. truehog13 truehog13 says:

I’m sorry and y’all win all crucify me but Arkansas basketball still sucks.

  95. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Yeah, I’m ready for baseball. Hopefully we make it to Omaha this year!

  96. joshua joshua says:

Even Pel’s worst team here would have beat us tonight!

  97. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

holy frickin crap!!!! what a joke!!!!!! i thought we had a shot at the dance. no way in hell!!!!!!!! the worst team in the SEC just EMBERRASSED the hell out of us. i wont get on anderson, his recruiting, or the freshman either tonight. everything sucked, and that will cost them the tourney. oh well, i am saying this a little later than i normaly do with this program, but better luck next year.

  98. PK PK says:

so much for that first road W..

I was really disappointed with our effort, OBVIOUSLY, but the thing that stood out to me was our lack of penetration on the offensive end. With a 4 guard lineup you have to be able to drive and get to the line.

Otherwise dump it into Hunter on every offensive possession and let him pass it back out for a rhthym jumper or get his turn around game going…people give Sanchez crap but he’s the only one that tries to pull of some inside moves (he just usually clanks the shot).

MrP is right.. BJ will be gone sooner rather than later, and we have struck out on our highest priority recruiting targets. I have also noticed that MA’s teams seem to plateau, but hopefully a new BBall practice facility on the horizon will lure the Archie Goodwin’s into BWA, cuz we need top 20 draft pick talent to make it back to the final 4.

  99. alabamahog alabamahog says:

Looks like we are back to pre-Sutton basketball. :-(

  100. mohogg mohogg says:

I don’t think Goodwin made his decision based on a new gym. There is no excuse for this crap. Those guys need to be paying tuition.

  101. artex artex says:

Thant was painful to watch. I dont know who had the worst performance Arkansas or the refs… Ok probably Ark but the refs weren’t far behind

  102. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

I wonder what Peyton think now. I don’t see him posting here now. I agree with MrPerfect. Peyton and his kind get Pel fired for this?

  103. lonehog81 lonehog81 says:

Come on guys…. get a inch expect a mile….young team, rebuilding program with Clark gone and Powell hurt. How would have you predicted this year knowing those loses. It is a long way to climb from where we have fallen. Tonight was the worst loss of the year IMO, but a teaching tool. BTW my first post, I have been reading for a couple months, enjoyed many comments and love the info flow. Special thanks to you RD for making this possible.

  104. mrc005 mrc005 says:

The game was tough to watch, but folks let’s not forget, we had a crippling injury with powell, a coach in his first season here as head coach. Guys who are in a new offense and defense. At times, we have looked great, at times terrible. They need the off season together and we need some more bigs that can run and jump. I think Mitchell will have a big I’m pact in another couple of weeks. Let’s just keep the home streak going and hope we pull it together on the road. A’s bad A’s things looked tonight, there is more to look forward to now. Anderson has brought high expectations and like petrino, it will take some time.

  105. matthog47 matthog47 says:

Mr. Prfct you are off….. 95% of Mizzu’s scoring and rebounding is by Mikes players. Mike said himself that he was leaving a talented top 10 team. I have ZERO doubt that MA will get it done and it will be sooner than later. Chill out man!

  106. maxkilian maxkilian says:

Guys let us remember Nolan’s first year he went 12-16 and finished 7th in the SWC. MA needs to be able to go 10-12 deep to run the kind of game that he wants. That is hard to do with a team with 8 Scholarship players. As I recall we were getting close to firing Nolan. I do know this. I would not want to be on the Arkansas Basketball team at Practice tomorrow. Be patient. Not enough players, a lot of freshmen and a new coach. We will have bad games. It is what freshmen do.

  107. BornHogWild BornHogWild says:

We have no leadership on this team to help on the road. But this year is not over. There is a lot of basketball to be played, and our last whooping by Kentucky was followed by some good performances.

  108. jnewton jnewton says:

I’m like most of you–not a basketball ball expert, but what kind of offense are we trying to run. All I saw tonight was the same crap that I’ve seen for years. And that’s years of experienced & inexperienced players. Lots of standing around, one on one, and no offensive rebounding. And this isn’t the 1st time this team has looked like this….just the worst. If we can play with a resemblance of a TEAM at home, why can’t we be a little bit of that on the road! Just a little bit would be better than this crap tonight. Absolutely no effort at all. No excuses, but we will probably hear plenty. Even Scott Inman just made a reference to very little effort tonight & he never criticizes the Hogs. Oh well!

  109. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

It’s amazing how high the expectations are for a CMA’s first season (by some)… Let us not also forget, that we might have the top 10 team right now, had we not turned away CMA in the first place, by hiring Stan Heath instead. That one worked out great…

  110. BornHogWild BornHogWild says:

    Amen Platinum Jesus

  111. lonehog81 lonehog81 says:

Does anyone think that another Coach could get more from this team?

  112. maxkilian maxkilian says:

PJ I understand what you are saying, Really do we need to drag up things than happened 10 years ago? MA seems to be gracious enough to not let it bother him so why should we bring up what could have been. It is a different time and it is now Ma’s time. it’s not that I disagree with you but it really matters little now.

  113. skezell skezell says:

This loss was horrible and you don’t have to like it and everyone deserves blame for this stinkbomb, but my God get some perspective people. No excuses for what happened, but let’s not lose sight of some of the good things. I swear the worst thing to give a Razorback is hope because he’ll sure turn it into expectation. After Powell went down, who really expected Arkansas to go to the tournament? People picked us to finish 9th in the SEC WITH Powell. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the NIT would be a good accomplishment THIS year. And it’s not even Valentine’s Day yet, and while the chances of making the NCAA Tourney were severely hampered tonight, they were not totally eradicated. Let’s back off the ledge and see what happens.

  114. slap270 slap270 says:

You know arkiansas promotes how great our fans are. But from what I see and read this blog everyday all I see is fair weather fans. yOU GUYS ARE ON TOP WHENEVER WE WIN BUT AFTER A LOST THE NEGATIVES REALLY SHOE UP. This is a very young team withalot of players who will be good in the future and the ones on here that only see whats bad should remember before all anyone expected was maybe NIT now even after this lost we can still make the ncaa. Yes being young is not an excuse its a fact. These are all Pels players whom we have watched except for our fredhmen for years. Th eincoming recruits will help alot because they are better than outgoing srs on this team. We dont have a go to guy with bunch which Powell would have been . True fans are behind there team win lose or draw but for some reason if we lose those fans act like this is the worst team in history of hog basketball. Why dont you guys start being fans of some other team and let real hog fans use this blog. The world is not over and season isnt either. Having no inside scorers is killing us because on the road you need to be able to score inside and get rebounds. Georgia played there best game of the season CMA is doing a great job considering the fact he has only 9 players on schollie and in my opion we will win more than 20 games this season with the sec tourney which could put us in ncaa tiurney.

go hogs go there is light in the tunnel even if the guys on this blog cant see it

  115. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

I get what you’re saying too maxk, really wasn’t trying to dig up old bones. I could have made my point in a better fashion, for that, I understand the concern for CMA’s benefit (I agree, he’s handled the whole situation with complete class). It was in defense of CMA and was hoping the forced Nolan comparisons would stop (sometimes sarcism & doing the same history dwelling, is not the best way to accomplish that). On the comparisons, it’s not too respectful to either one of them… Both men have done more the bball program, than can be said of countless others.

  116. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    more *for the bball program…

  117. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Have you seen the guys Anderson is bringing in?

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/arkansas/basketball/recruiting/commitments/2012/arkansas-74

Feel free to look at their offer list.

  118. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I’m simply amazed at our performance (or lack of) last night.
I watched it until halftime, then turned it off. Terrible basketball.

I was under the impression this game was our best chance to win one on the road. As it turned out, it looks like LSU was a much better opportunity.

Looking back, the M. Powell injury early in the season and losing the Stokes kid to Tenn. has really hurt this team.
Those two would’ve been huge for the inside game.

The rebuilding process may take a year longer than was expected, but I still see us getting there.
What I don’t see is an NCAA invite this time around. Maybe next year.

  119. mohogg mohogg says:

Looks like Pelphrey was a better recruitier than Anderson.

  120. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    Pel’s SEC accomplishments at Arkansas

    ’08 ’09 ’10 ’11 Total

    Conf Record: 9-7, 2-14, 7-9, 7-9 25-39

    Home Record: 7-1, 2-6, 5-3, 5-3 19-13

    Road Record: 2-6, 0-8, 2-6, 2-6 6-26

He had a .500 home record and went 4-30 on the road after Beverly and Weems (Heath’s players) left. This was during a time that the SEC was WAY down on talent.

CMA’s team looked terrible last night, but that doesn’t change the fact that Pelphrey was a sub-par head coach for our program. Fighting for him is defending underachievement.

  121. bigboi bigboi says:

mohogg says: Looks like Pelphrey was a better recruitier than Anderson.
    ============================================
This team is all players Pelphrey signed, Missouri’s team is all of CMA players.

  122. mrc005 mrc005 says:

yeah, look at the players mizzou has. so who is the better recruiter? anderson came in to a new program to rebuild it, great players, who want to be a 1 or 2 and out, don’t want to be put in that situation. also, when a great player is being recruited by a coach and he goes to another school, there might not be enough time to look at the new school. we have good height and athleticism coming in 2012. we also have a 4 star already commited for 2013.

  123. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Anderson kinda got lucky in 2 instances. The Pressey boys are the sons of Anderson’s good friend from college. Ricardo Ratliff wanted to come to Arkansas but couldn’t because of the SEC JUCO rule.

Anderson normally doesn’t recruit well. Look at the class he just signed.

  124. mrc005 mrc005 says:

i am our incoming guys have good height and they are athletic our tall guys we have arent that athletic. and i mean as far as running and jumping. especially abron and sanchez. they cant jump much at all, which is hurting our rebounding.

  125. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Did you see their offer lists? None play the post either?

  126. chevymanar chevymanar says:

I will bite on the constant recruiting comment mrpfct keeps making. I will list the commits and the colleges recruiting them (along with that college’s current season record). It doesn’t look too bad in my opinion. If a Hog fan thinks we are going to recruit like a BBall powerhouse at this moment is delusional, but to act like we have no talent coming in is just as delusional.

You guys talk about giving him a chance to turn it around and then focus on the ga game? The guys on here that are questioning the direction of our program are not focusing on the ga game, they are looking at next year’s recruiting class. It doesn’t look very promising. The way you turn a program around is to sign four or five players in the top 100 in the country in one signing class, (2 fm out of state). The guy that did that for us was promptly fired for it.

CMA has zero recruits coming in next year in the top 100.

Now he has a couple of highly ranked players for 2013 that are both from Arkansas. That ain’t gonna get it done either.

He is no different from CBP, if he can’t recruit outside the State, then we aren’t going to improve enough to reach our goals.

Jury is still out of course, it’s just cause for concern and it will continue to be a concern until he pulls a top player out of Memphis or Missouri or Miss or Tenn or somewhere outside of Arkansas.

  128. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Qualls is a steal. He plays way above the rim and has extreme athleticism. Perfect fit for our system. Very long and phsyical for a 6’5″ small forward.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7THaYr8JuU

Jacorey Williams is a top 150 player. Anthlon Bell is a pure shooter with great accuracy from the 3-point line, much like Rotnei Clarke, except he has the quicks and athleticism to get open and defend. He’s borderline BJ Young quick.

Let’s let CMA actually get a class on campus before we rip his recruiting apart. So far, all he’s done is keep a top 5 class completely intact despite a coaching change. And that’s unheard of in college basketball. Pretty good recruiting in my book.

  129. News Carver News Carver says:

Agreed. I think these guys are probably better than advertised but we still need to get an occasional top 50 player. Don’t think we will meet our goals with only Arkansas stars and under the radar players.

    It’s early.

  130. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Wow! They sound like McDonald’s All-Americans. It’s a wonder why their offer lists include Jax State, UCA, etc.

In reality Bell and Quails won’t see the floor next year. Williams will be forced to play inside because we have zero depth there. That’s unless we sign Aaron Ross which we haven’t done yet.

  131. mrprfct mrprfct says:

The team next year will look like this possibly

    Nobles PG
    Wade SG
    Scott SG
    Powell PF
    Mickleson PF
    Madden PG
    Quails SF
    Williams SF
    Abron C

Am I missing anyone? I don’t see Young wanting to come back. He’s probably upset that he’s the best splayed on the team and having to come off the bench.

    ===================================
Qualls stock is soaring, we got on him early. Anthlon Bell is the best player, on one of the best teams in Memphis. CMA knows the area, and if his contacts say he’s legit then he is legit. These kids have singed their LOI already so they will not receive new offers.

You left off Arkansas. It’s a pretty good program.

  134. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Used to be. Not now.

  135. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I feel really bad for you.

  136. mrc005 mrc005 says:

mrprfct: i think your list of players for next year is pretty accurate. i dont think bj stays, but i think its because even though hes coming off the bench, hes still one of the leading scorers in the nation. i believe he in the top 10. i honestly believe that cma is keeping him there with the hopes that he will come back next year, but i dont believe it will happen. but on the rest of the class, abron great player, but doesnt fit our system, mckelson, great player but i think he would do better in someone elses system. these two are awesome basketball players, but they are not built to run as much as our offense calls for. where i do disagree with you mrprfct is these guys signed early, who nows who would have been on them by now. and also, maybe they arent the best players in the nation at their position. but are they the best players in the country at their position for our offense and defense? for that one, we are just going to have to wait and see when they are on our team going up against the other SF’s and PF’s in the country.

  137. mrc005 mrc005 says:

my point is, you cant just put any great player on our o and d. for instance, would we recruit a shaq type center, who couldnt run the floor. even though this hypothetical center is the best in the country, would you recruit him to play on our team, if you were the coach. i wouldn’t, because i know he probably wouldn’t 1. want to come and run that much and 2. wouldnt be as successful as a more athletic center.

  138. mrc005 mrc005 says:

we are a team that will not get the rebounds that others get. i believe this was a common thing when Nolan was here as well. but where we make up for it is, is in fast break points. or at least thats what i think.

  139. mrprfct mrprfct says:

You don’t find it alarming we are losing 2 post guys and didn’t sign one?

  140. mrc005 mrc005 says:

mrprfct: williams is 6’8″ what position will he be playing? qualls is 6’5″? are the going to be guards?

  141. mrc005 mrc005 says:

on both their recruiting pages it says small forward. is that not a post player? maybe im confused what you mean by post player.

  142. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Where is this “BJ won’t be back” sentiment coming from?

  143. mrc005 mrc005 says:

what i see from williams video is that he runs the floor really well, which is what our offense calls for. he will give other players that are his size, but cant run as well fits. or at least i think. and not only is he tall, but he can jump. same for qualls, but he isnt quite as tall, but he is faster and can elevate higher than williams.

on loosing 2 post players. williams is as tall as both, but i believe is a better athlete than sanchez for sure. i mean, what have we really gotten from sanchez, that we will be concerned about losing? waithe i like, and i think he is more like the 2 players we have coming in, except i think they are more explosive jumpers. who was the tallest player on Nolan’s national championship team? wasn’t it corliss? he’s only 6’7″.

  144. mrprfct mrprfct says:

A post player is a 5 or someone that plays with his back to the basket. You can compensate that with a 4.

    Williams is a 3.

  145. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Lee Wilson, Darnell Robinson and Dwight Stewart were all taller than Corliss.

  146. mrc005 mrc005 says:

vantage: i dont know that he wont. but im just guessing he wont. he is the best player on our team, and one of the best in the country. im just guessing because of how good he is, that he will enter the draft. just a guess, havent heard anything about it.

  147. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Oh, ok. He’s good, but he’s not good enough for the draft to be worth it for him just yet, especially with all the players that didn’t declare for the draft last year.

  148. mrc005 mrc005 says:

mrprfct: ok. he’s a 3 in there offense he may be a 5 in ours. yeah, werent wilson and robinson 6’11″? we arent losing anyone of that height to replace. i guess my point is, that we are replacing the height that we are losing.

  149. mrc005 mrc005 says:

i think that mickelson and abron plus the new guys coming in, will be more productive than, mickelson, abron, waithe, and sanchez. i mean could we really do worse than sanchez? god i hope not.

  150. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Williams isn’t a post player. It’s not all about height. Dirk Nowitzki is 7-2 or so but you wouldn’t dare put him at Center(5) because he can’t play with his back to the basket.

  151. mrc005 mrc005 says:

vantage: i think whether or not he enters the draft will have to do with how good he thinks he is, not any thing else. im sure he has plenty of people telling him he should enter the draft this year, how many people do you think are telling him not to. and frustration could also add in to it. he is the best player on our team, but he doesnt start. i hope he doesnt, but im going to go ahead and guess that he will.

  152. mrprfct mrprfct says:

If I were Young I’d leave because 1. I’d go in the first round and 2. I wouldn’t want to keep coming off the bench knowing I was the best player.

  153. mrc005 mrc005 says:

mrprfct: what guys are we losing that can do that? we dont really run a back to the basket offense.

  154. mrc005 mrc005 says:

and i have seen dirk play with his back to the basket. he just fades away and shoots. works for him.

  155. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Sanchez is the closest to that. Waithe is forced to do that. One of the reasons we are losing because we don’t have a post player.

  156. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Plus, you have to be able to defend the post.

  157. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Yea, Dirk backs guys down, but he’s not going to do that to a Shaq or Blake or Dwight Howard or guys like that. There’s a difference between backing a guy down and posting him up and being a post player.

  158. mrc005 mrc005 says:

well, like i said mrprfct. “i think that mickelson and abron plus the new guys coming in, will be more productive than, mickelson, abron, waithe, and sanchez.” whatever position they play, 54321, we will be better, with mickelson and abron being sophomores and being in the game longer and being more skilled.

  159. mrc005 mrc005 says:

sanchez is 6th in rebounding. not a lot lost from the post. last in scoring not a lot from the post. we dont start both mickelson and abron. next year one will start for sanchez. when we want to go small, one will stay in and the other will come out. just like we are this year. i really dont see how you dont understand this.

  160. mrprfct mrprfct says:

And how’s that working out for us? What you’re saying we are going to be gettin more of the same. That sound good to you? It doesn’t to me.

  161. mrc005 mrc005 says:

i didnt say that at all, what i said was we would have both mickelson and abron on the floor at the same time. right there is improvement. you disagree? waithe isnt a post player anyway right? so how are we losing from the post? i mean hes not a 4 or a 5. hes just tall. improved players in abron and mickelson is better than sanchez and waithe. how is that more of the same. still, really dont see how you dont understand this.

  162. mrc005 mrc005 says:

i mean we do have a better record at this point than the recent past. and it only looks to improve next year, with our freshmen post players being more experienced next year as sophomores. and getting some athletic bigs to run the floor. which sanchez cant do. which is what are offense is, but i will agree that if we were duke, we would be in trouble. but we dont play how they play.

  163. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Um, the bball recruiting period is not over, we’re still pursuing bigs… The committments we have, signed during the early signing period. BJ will be back, that’s a ridiculous claim on what a young man is ‘thinking’, before the fact…

  164. mrprfct mrprfct says:

And when Abron gets into foul trouble? You’re going to stick a guy that plays outside in there because he’s 6-8. That’s not going to work. Expect the same results next year as you have this year.

  165. mrc005 mrc005 says:

maybe you should be a fan of another team. because it seems you are never happy with most of what goes on with the razorbacks. or better yet follow alabama football and kentucky basketball and all your sadness and anger would fade away. u should really look into that. because you just arent happy with the razorbacks. and you tend to bring the rest of us down. just saying. something to think about.

  166. mrc005 mrc005 says:

platinum: dont really think that the word rediculus should be be used. kinda extreme. i think its a fair guess not a rediculus claim.

  167. mrc005 mrc005 says:

then we run with mickelson. why dont you ask coach anderson these things? we dont have the answers. and anything any of us say will be wrong. u are just assuming next year will be the same. maybe it will, maybe it will be worse. but im going to support the team, yes i may criticize them, but your just saying they suck and theyre going to continue to suck. i dont see why you follow razorbacks as much as you hate so much of what is going on. i look forward to the rest of this year and the next. gotta go. take a pill.

  168. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

Ridiculous is also a defined word for “silly” or “laughable”, the claim part was kinda extreme, yet it was meant for the extremely negative poster…

  169. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

…I will refrain from such words in the future ;) .

  175. hogen-dazs hogen-dazs says:

This team just isn’t very good. Having to rely on your guards for all phases of the game just isn’t a good formula for winning on the road.

But oh well. From reading the comments on here there’s really only one thing to say.

MA gets the same amount of time Heath or Pel got. Whether he’s recruiting Top 10 classes or not doesn’t matter. What he gets out of the classes he DOES sign does matter. If he improves the program and teams over the next few years is the key. If he does…then all is good. If not…we boot him. Simple as that.

It’s silly to talk about a coach’s success who hasn’t even finished out their FIRST season.

The problem with Pel (since some are bringing his name up) was that he got several years to put his program in place. But one thing always happened to ALL his teams despite the years. They ALL got worse as the year went on…home or away.

At least we are winning all out Home games in year one. Heck we still have an outside shot at the NCAA tournament. Not likely…but still could happen. But nevertheless if MA doesn’t improve the program each year with results in the right direction…it will work itself out like it did with Heath and Pel.

  176. mrprfct mrprfct says:

I believe the crowd is the main reason we haven’t lost at home yet. Once folks start getting turned off and stop showing up at games we’ll see what happens.

  177. skezell skezell says:

Crowds don’t play games. Crowds don’t play defense. Crowds don’t make baskets. Do they help spur the team to play better than they might in other environments, but the players still do the work. They are the reason they haven’t lost at home.

  178. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Bad road losses happen quite regularly in college basketball. No need for the doom and gloom. North Carolina lost to Florida State by 30 on the road earlier this year. They’re still one of the best 5 teams in the country. We still have a chance to win a couple road games between tennessee, auburn, and mississippi state. We still have a chance to make it in the tourney.

This whole thread is an exercise in over reaction.

I’m looking for Abron and Mickelson to improve next year as they have an off-season in the weight room and that should help our rebounding woes somewhat.

Development – This will be key for CMA and something that Nolan was very good at outside of maybe the center position.

I thought B.J. was still a little light to be moving to the NBA after one season. I would think he needs one more year to mature.

If we could just get Powell back for a full healthy season, that would be enough to make the tournament next year with this team, with Young still on it.
