From twitter it sounds like peters is all vol. But he could change his mind when he gets to the hill!

  2. hog70 hog70 says:

truehog13: where are you hearing all that? Is it his twitter account? Is this the kid that Winston and lil Ray are recruiting for us?

  3. jb jb says:

Jared committed back in August. Haven’t heard much since. Really good to get him on campus. Brandon committed even earlier, in July. Good to get him her as well. Otha may be committed to Tennessee, but I think we have a pretty good shot at him. This weekend is important for all of them. Too bad we don’t have an on campus basketball game like last weekend. Don’t these other basketball teams know we need to schedule all weekend games at home during recruiting?

  4. alabamahog alabamahog says:

Otha needs to meet our “O” line and our fullback. He might want to become a Hog instead of a Hog adversary!

  5. nostrahogus nostrahogus says:

A little concerned about Collins durability, he broke his collar bone this past year. He’s awful thin at about 170, SEC Rb’s are brutes. Hope he is healthy now and he can gain the needed size and strength.

  6. alabamahog alabamahog says:

If I was a highly talented/recruited kid and I wanted to have some fun, I would put all kinds of “stuff” in my twitters and on facebook. Then I would watch all the blogs for the “hand wringing” by the fans!

Don’t get in a tizzy until these guys sign on the dotted line.

Truehog, are talking bout peters, or Santos?

  10. VantageHog VantageHog says:

That tweet was from 4 days ago, when he wasn’t even 100% going to visit. 4 days is an eternity in recruiting time this close to signing day.

  11. hawgfan15 hawgfan15 says:

We have done an in home visit with Peters since that tweet. I still feel like it is a long shot we sway him from Tenn. Who knows though, crazy things happen this time of year. WPS!

  12. marcm marcm says:

    Peters I guess.

  13. VantageHog VantageHog says:

It’s all going to come down to whether or not early PT is big for him and whether or not Taver and Haynes can build a better relationship with him than TN’s guys.

  14. hog70 hog70 says:

Lol, he might just want to play for 5th place in the East. Wouldn’t that be exciting?

  15. razorback roger razorback roger says:

After reviewing the various sites, it appears that this Tennessee coch (Dooley) is on heckuva recruiter. He is getting some really top notch talent. I hate to pour cold water on this Otha Peters thing, but I don’t think he will flip.
Don’t jump on me for this, but that is how I see it at the moment.

Here is a Jordan Diamond update. Some Michigan recruiting service thinks he’s leaning towards us.

  17. firehouse firehouse says:

Recruiting analyst Max Emfinger just said on sportstalk that our commits are top 10 class. The only possible reason other recruiting rankings have them outside the top 25 is “political”. He said DGB & C Gardner are practically equal. They along with Austin Flynn will be #1 round draft picks according to ME.

    J. Winston is visiting Michigan ST. this weekend, the weather forecast is is for rain and snow and for cold weather.

    =========================================

This is what I posted earlier in the week

It appears Arkansas will host four to six prospects this weekend. The numbers could go up or down. Will know more later.

    DE Brandon Lewis -Memphis

    LB Otha Peters- Covington, La.

    CB Jared Collins- Tulsa

    Ath. Edward Pope- Carthage, Tx.

    LB Jakarri Thomas- Tallahassee, Fla.

  25. RepMO Razorback RepMO Razorback says:

    Thank you, Richard.

  26. boubalos boubalos says:

Benton is a big old boy. Looks like he had only one offer, Memphis.
I had meant to ask this question a couple of days ago but did not get around to it. If a guy such as Benton walks on at any 1A school, how long is it until he could be given a scholarship assuming one is available?

  27. homerhog homerhog says:

I’ve seen Benton twice this year. This could really be a steal. Good coaching, top-notch competition ……with some college coaching and desire he could become another Burlsworth. That’s saying a lot folks.

  28. Hogfanatic Hogfanatic says:

Welcome to the Family Ben. OHHHHH, Lord its hard to be humble ………… WPS

  29. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Whomever said that Tenn coach Dooley is a great recruiter needs to have his head examined. People at La Tech think he is a joke and are happy that Sonny Dykes replaced him.

  30. News Carver News Carver says:

Well someone is putting a pretty good class together at tenn this year, that is if they can hold on to them. I think that is where the comment came from. We’re doing our best to make it a not so great class, but we’ve yet to pry anybody loose over there so far.

Dikes is winning with Dooley’s recruits. Nutt still looked pretty good in yr 2 at ole miss didn’t he?

  31. razorback roger razorback roger says:

Have my head examined?? I am open to suggestions for doctors that do such things. What if they find nothing in there…then what??

  32. oldhog oldhog says:

ima hawg – I really don’t think the LATech Buldogs think Dooley is a joke – I work with a bunch and they were really sad when he left. You are correct that they are happy with Sonny Dykes; however, they are worried he will move on sooner than they would like. Dooley brought in the talent that Dykes has been coaching!

  33. razorback roger razorback roger says:

Ben Benton, looks like a very good project. I agree that if he works hard and conditions to make his body better…he just could be a steal for Arkansas.

  34. bsee1991 bsee1991 says:

Im gonna say this. Based on what I watched courtney gardner is as good or better than any receiver we have ever had. Bike Adams speed and moves with child size. And loves to be physical. I hope we don’t forget this guy in all this dgb talk. I know he is a great talent. But he will still be a freshman Ned year. Both to mere NFL talent

  35. Sweet T Sweet T says:

Is Edward Pope still considering us since he isn’t visiting?

  36. spcbuzzard spcbuzzard says:

Razorback Rodger, Dooley is a great recruiter. Look at his first class at Tenn. I know a lot of people are saying it’s just a matter of time before he gets fired, but I think he has long term potential at Tenn.

  37. ima hawg ima hawg says:

In Arkansas, judging coaches talents always comes back to Houston Nutt doesn’t it. Nutt won with Ford’s talent, then won with Orgeron’s talent. Well, Petrino did not win with Nutt’s talent but is doing well with his own. Point is, somebody’s gotta coach em up regardless. Dooley did terrible with Kiffin’s talent. He will not survive. This Tenn class is overrated and most Vol fans believe they should still have Top 5 classes.

  38. marcm marcm says:

ima hog. Tenn will be a sleeper this yr. imho

  39. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Dooley is not a big time coach and will not survive at Tenn. I’ll be interested to see how Ole Miss does with Freeze. In a couple years, I think he will be something to deal with. And it will be because of Coaching, not recruiting.

  40. marcm marcm says:

Tenn’s #! QB was out most of the yr and some other big time players cant remember them though. thats hurts.

  41. nchog123 nchog123 says:

Ben Benton looks like a very good walk-on. He has good athletic ability, is tenacious, and if you go to MUS you are intelligent. As for Dooley, to early to tell if he can stay in the ring with the heavyweights. The Peter Principle states that you rise to your level of incompetence. BO certainly proves that.

  42. hogwildhogfan hogwildhogfan says:

I agree that the Tenn. qb is probably the 3rd best in the SEC behind TW and Murray but with that said we still dominated them last year with Willy’s defense but they still can’t even come out the East which is the weak side.

  43. marcm marcm says:

I agree, HWHF, but when u rely on your passing cause your running game is weak, ur doomed, if we didnt have TW last yr, well thats all im saying.

  44. marcm marcm says:

any info on how Gardner’s visit is going at OU. twitter?

  45. razorback roger razorback roger says:

Othat Peters has stated I believe twice now that Jamichael Winston has kept in touch with him and keeps encouraging him to commit to the hogs. So that tells me that Winston is by no means a “soft commit”. He is all Hog baby !!!

  46. spcbuzzard spcbuzzard says:

imahawg Tenn is where we were 4 years ago. They were starting something like 17 Fr. A lot of those kids were highly recruited.

  47. spcbuzzard spcbuzzard says:

As signing day approaches, this is a good article for us all to read to keep things in perspective.

    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7507996/dorial-green-beckham-gunner-kiel-rest-top-prospects-high-school-football

  48. News Carver News Carver says:

I don’t know how good a coach Dooley is, even though down, the tennessee brand is not completely out of style with these recruits, thus the decent class they appear to be putting together. Not sure how you can call a class over-rated before they’ve even signed yet though,

Dooley was a good mid-major coach, but his rope is getting short at tenn. Based on our own experiences, I like to give a coach at least 3 yrs to show improvement before I pass judgement.

  49. News Carver News Carver says:

Funny article SPC, and so familarly accurate:

  50. justahog justahog says:

Not to start a fight, however the Hogs relied on a passing game this past season , with a weak running game ….results 11-2 # 5 in the nation

  51. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Good points about Dooley and Tenn News Carver. Although it baffles me how you guys defend the dying “brand” of UT Vols. I personally hope that Dooley stays at least as long as Nutt did at Ole Miss. Just wish we were playing Tenn again while they are down.

  52. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    spcbuzzard, nice feed. Thanks!

  53. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Can someone direct me to the Arkansas blog?

  54. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

Sure, go to your front door…open it…take 5 steps forward…make a left and keep on walking ’til we get back to ya.

  55. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Funny VantageHog! Seems to be looking good for DGB and Diamond. Would love to add a good LB before we’re done.

  56. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

Just funnin’, actually thought you were commenting on another thread.

  57. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Besides Ascolese I mean. He will be used like Jericho Nelson. We need a good MLB. Bad!

  58. spcbuzzard spcbuzzard says:

I think Vin could be a MLB 220 now, add 15 or 20 pounds with a red shirt year. That aint to shabby. Besides, Urlacher was drafted by the Bears as a Saftey and then moved to MLB. Worked out allright for them. Lets give the kid time and see what happens. I trust the Hawgfather.

  59. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

Uhh…let’s not go the Urlacher route.

Let’s just put it this way, he will NOT be inducted to the MLB Hall Of Fame. His # of tackles are tainted!

  60. hogwildhogfan hogwildhogfan says:

Now we have some MLBs already in place i think his main focus was on the OLB but im sure we’ll get Harper or Hankins i’d rather have Hankins though.

  61. hogwildhogfan hogwildhogfan says:

OH and the combination of AJ Turner and VInny is really going to be something to watch and if we could add Santos that would remind of me a old Pete Carroll type LBing core.

  62. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I don’t see us landing MLB Dalton Santos. I think he’s Texas bound, but I do believe we have a much better shot at OT Jordan Diamond than what I originally thought.

Word is over on some of the Michigan boards is that he’s a Michigan lean. Others have him choosing between the Wolverines and Hogs.

His interest in Auburn looks to be fading and both the Michigan and Ohio State message boards are saying Ohio State is out now.

Also, both boards are saying even though he’s visiting Winsconsin, the Badgers are out as well. Possibly like A&M commit/RB Trey Williams was before he came to visit Arkansas.

All along, I believed he would go north to one of those 3 schools I mentioned above, but it may now come down to either Michigan or Arkansas after all.

  63. dakotahog dakotahog says:

Sure would be cool to beat out Michigan on signing day, like they did us on that TE last year. I still think our LBs will come out of the RS, Haman,Gilbert,or Atiga. I feel a lot better about Diamond as well.

  64. razorback roger razorback roger says:

I see our redshirt linebackers from last year being ready willing and able to put some hits on the opposing teams.
Like dakotahog said, Haman, Gilbert , Atiga, Williams and Mitchell are all BIG OLE BOYS with lots of up side.
I think from this class we are adding quality depth.

  65. dakotahog dakotahog says:

Richard: what kind of show are you putting on for NSD this year? This site was fantastic last year. Can we all come over to your house for donuts on Wednesday? Is it true that if it snows, 2 ft. or more, Petrino has enlisted Austin Beck to get his tractor and round up any recruits needing to get to a fax machine? We’re almost there my man.Go Hogs!

  66. andrew Andrew says:

They moved Gilbert to de in fall camp last year, but maybe (hopefully) the new dc will change his mind…

  67. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Speaking of changes in defensive positions, I was wondering if maybe the philosiphy under Willy Robinson was either too confusing at times for guys to pick up on or if maybe the philosiphy/scheem was just fine, but wasn’t being commuticated well by Willy.

I never could put my finger on why our defenses were so inconsistant the past 3 years, at times, looking very good, while looking terrible the rest.

I couldn’t say for sure if there was a distinct difference in how the Cotton Bowl played out, but I do know the D played very well in that particular game, although it was still only one game.

Time will tell I suppose, but I sure do hope the Cotton Bowl was a sign of good things to come for the D. ;)

  68. firehouse firehouse says:

On defense there has to be a balance of scheming and simplicity. Too much scheming and players are indecisive and slow. Too simple and aggressive and trick plays and miss direction = TDS. Looked like good mix of preparation and aggressiveness in Cotton Bowl.

  69. mrprfct mrprfct says:

It’s probably because we had Bequette and Tank back healthy. Truly healthy. Also, we had over a month to prepare for KSU and lets be honest, their offense ain’t scientific rockets.

Anyone that’s says the tackling was better needs to realize that ain’t on the DC, but more the position coaches.

  70. firehouse firehouse says:

Old “Scientific Rockets” LOL. He never learned half the players names.

  71. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Tackling has to do with positioning as much as it has to do with technique.

You can have all the technique in the world (provided by the position coaches) but if you’re out of position, which can result from lining up out of formation or a DC not communicating the right defense, which causes confusion and timing issues, it won’t matter a lick.

  72. firehouse firehouse says:

KSU offense aint scientific rockets but neither was Jordan Jefferson and the wimpy LSU option offense with Willy in charge.

  73. mrprfct mrprfct says:

vs. LSU the offense scored 1 TD on 11 possessions. That don’t help no defense. Offense couldn’t sustain drives.

  74. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

LSU had the best defensive secondary in the nation, along with the fastest DEs in the nation, going against inexperienced OTs when they played Arkansas.

Combine that with the home field advantage and the fact both Dennis Johnson and Chris Gragg gave up turnovers on fumbles after a run or a catch and you have the recipe for a disaster.

If you don’t play virtually mistake-free on offense against THAT defense in Baton Rouge, you’re toast…plain and simple.

  75. firehouse firehouse says:

Amen to no Knile Davis or running threat hurting defense. Point is in first half with momentum on our side, defense had no outside containment and let wimpy slow motion option offense march down the field for touchdown.

  76. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Bama played virtually mistake-free offense against LSU in the title game, but it wouldn’t have mattered that much had the defense not dominated the way they did.

  77. firehouse firehouse says:

I didn’t expect Ark to beat LSU after death of GU. Ark has always lost after the death of teammate. They repeatedly fumbled and lost after Shannon Wright death and in a similar situation to last November, Ark lost to Texas Tech in the last game of 1966 with third straight SWC title and Cotton Bowl on the line after Claude Smithy death.

  78. mrprfct mrprfct says:

We were up 14-7 and driving when Tyler took a 14 yard sack and we punted 2 plays later. They returned the punt and had all the momentum. Defense was playing stellar up until that punt return.

  79. hogwildhogfan hogwildhogfan says:

No LSU ran the same play over and over and over again and we couldn’t do anything about it. That falls back on the DC..if u can’t come up with something to stop a simple run play then you need to go. He had more than enough time to get the bodies he needed on the defensive side of the ball and just couldn’t get the job done but Haynes is going to get us over the hump where we need to be…..we were only 4 or 5 good defensive stops last year from going to the NC.

  80. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Your attempt to continually lay blame at the feet of Tyler Wilson for the woes of the offense are futile at best.

That’s an oooold, oooold argument and might I add, not a very good one at that. :)

  81. firehouse firehouse says:

Arkansas had an incredibly successful season with circumstances surrounding the two losses definitely stacking the deck against them. Alabama game played with both starting DEs and CBs on the sideline with rookie OTs and no Knile Davis.

  82. woothog woothog says:

After seeing the way Alabama destroyed LSU’s option, I think our D could have done a better job and should have.

Also, I am genuinely curious and not just whining: from the one replay I saw of DJ’s “fumble” he sure looked down to me. Was it really that clear to everyone else that he wasn’t?

  83. RepMO Razorback RepMO Razorback says:

Any updates on what events are planned for the prospects that are on campus this weekend?

  84. RepMO Razorback RepMO Razorback says:

Has Ben Benton arrived in town?

  85. Bigfoot bigfoot says:

I lost a team mate to death on the practice field. It ruined a whole season. More importantly, I lost my best friend, and all of us lost great team mate. I really appreciate GU’s lost. I grieved for his parents, high school, non-football friends as well as his team mates. That reminds us of how very dear life is. Now let’s win the NC and dedicate it to his honor.
