  1. Coach Coach says:

How do you guys feel about us going after Jay Wright @ Villanova ?

I was hoping he would be considered when we hired Pelphrey but his name wasn’t in the mix then.

  2. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Personally I like Tim Floyd. Pro experience, great recruiter, charismatic. Somebody mentioned Bruce Pearl. That might be more doable than you think. But he’s got lots of baggage right now. I think Anderson is the favorite, followed by Buzz.

  3. Coach Coach says:

Here are other names being mentioned:

Missouri’s Mike Anderson: “I don’t see why he wouldn’t be the perfect choice. He’s a coaching star, he’s got that dominant personality, he’s got the charisma, he was there during the glory days. If they want to pack the place, that’s the guy.

“I know there are people saying Arkansas doesn’t want to go back to the past. But Nolan Richardson is the past, Mike Anderson is the future.”

Marquette’s Buzz Williams: “A great coach, a dominant personality and is going to be a star and one of the best in profession whether it’s at Marquette or somewhere else.

“He is one of the most relentless workers and recruiters that you can be around. In fact, he carries around a book during (the) July (recruiting period). People call it Buzz’ Bible. It pretty much has everything in there – scouting reports, every bit of information you could ever want about a kid or the people around him, his travel plans.

“Basically he took what Billy Gillespie was doing and took it to a whole new level. He wants to be prepared for everything and never be caught off guard and he never is.”

Texas A&M’s Mark Turgeon: “He basically has taken what Billy Gillespie did there at Texas A&M and continue to build on it. He adapts to the talent that he has and seems to have great success in doing that. He is one of the rising stars out there in the profession.”

Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall: “The guy is just a flat out winner, has been wherever he has been and will be wherever he goes. He will fight like crazy for his team and his fans. Winning follows guys like him because he does the right things and gets results. He just gets it done.”

Kansas State’s Frank Martin: “Nobody in the country does a better job at taking kids with chips on their shoulder and getting them to play to the best of their ability. Obviously he is very intense and gets the best out of his players and is going to continue to do that because he demands it.”

VCU’s Shaka Smart: “Yes, he is young (33), but age is just a number. When he took over at VCU, he made a plan and a mission statement on how he was going to do things and he has stuck to that. His players love him, his fans love him and he is going to be one of the nation’s best coaches when it is all said and done. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Xavier’s Chris Mack: “He was one of the nation’s best recruiters when he was an assistant and has kept that going as a head coach. He is a great coach and I have no doubt he is going to be called one of the best in the country very soon.”

Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin: “I think he is a guy that isn’t getting enough credit for the job he has done there.

    @ Ima Hog

Ima Hog says “My top five choices are Tim Floyd, Bruce Pearl, Steve Fisher, Baby Face Nelson, and Al Capone” Nice choices ;-)

  5. Coach Coach says:

Here’s a funny read and a pretty good story.

    http://arkansas.scout.com/2/1057120.html

  6. Coach Coach says:

Kentucky and Florida advance to the sweet 16

  7. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Not that it matters our that anyone souls care, but I finally feel comfortable making my official prediction/endorsement and Buzz is both. There’s too much risk with Anderson concerning the recruiting class staying together.

  8. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    or that anyone should care.

    Dang phone.

  9. bigwayne bigwayne says:

I’m watching SDSU and Temple play and Fisher has his team doing well. I’m not sure how old Coach Fisher is but his teams are fun to watch and that is something we have been missing in Arkansas for quiet a while. I wouldn’t mind seeing that style being played on the hill.

  10. VantageHog VantageHog says:

They aren’t looking at anyone that’s been in trouble with the ncaa. Fisher had a booster that paid the fab five and got ousted as a result. As a result, he’s not a candidate.

  11. ima hawg ima hawg says:

    @ bigdaddyd

Can you read? I never put Steve Fisher on my list. Everyone else is okay.

  12. ima hawg ima hawg says:

Can you read? I never put Steve Fisher on my list.

  13. beasley beasley says:

Like me Fisher is old as dirt. :)

  14. beasley beasley says:

Can you believe that Pitt – Butler game, dangest thing i ever seen.

  15. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

Coach, I beg to disagree with your take on Mike Anderson.
I don’t see him as a “coaching star” or “dominant personality.
I don’t see “personal charisma”. Even Nolan does not have those. All he has is his closeness to Nolan that he might be able to bring back ” 40 minutes of hell” That is what the nostalgic clamoring is all about. However, despite his closeness to Nolan, he is no Nolan.

  16. beasley beasley says:

    Chris Lincoln Reports

    he could be nuts

  17. spud spud says:

Why are people still chasing past glories? There were two awesome guards right there in St. Louis and Anderson didn’t land either one of them. That doesn’t sound like someone we should be pursuing. If Pel had failed to side Madden and Mickelson, he would have been vilified. Come on Long, turn the page and move on. Hire Buzz Williams or Gregg Marshall.

  18. beasley beasley says:

I put he could be nuts just found it and posted it, but its been on the news but they don’t know either.

  19. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

Ima hog, can YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES? I put Steve Fisher on my list because he’s a crook like the other four guys! Duh

What coach posted was actually an article by scout a couple of days back. He must’ve forgot to post where he got it from. Coach is a plagiarizer! LOL!

  21. I noticed where Dudley Dawson reported that Aaron Ross’s family called him to discuss his academic situation.
Aaron took his ACT test on Feb. 12th. He HAS NOT recieved his test score yet and if needed, is scheduled to take the test again in April.
It was also stated that Aaron has all of his core classes from high school in tact.

It looks like the academic rumor on Aaron turned out to be false. This is good.

    ==================================

Thanks for having my back ! If you can call a person a “plagiarizer” as having my back ! LOL :P :P :P

Honestly, I didn’t mean to pass it off as mine. I really don’t agree with all of it. I thought I wrote something at the top saying here was some reported possibilities. If not I apologize. Also I guess I did forget the link which I usually do put in there.

  23. Coach Coach says:

Thanks for posting the link mudhog. 8)

  24. beasley beasley says:

Yep that’s all you can see this morning he’s comlng he’s not coming it’s getting a little boring.

  25. Coach Coach says:

IMHO Anderson is a huge upgrade over Tubby and Pelphrey.

  26. beasley beasley says:

May be something to it i found it about 8:40 last night and finally put it on here, S Sulliavn was talking about it on facebook.

  27. Coach Coach says:

Stacey also posted it on her facebook. It seems to make more sense than alot of other rumors.

  28. pochpunt pochpunt says:

Missouri or Oklahoma could come out with the best end of the deal in the coaching merry-go-round. Buzz Williams would bring NEW life to the hog program, but if we hire OLD life to the program with Anderson. Missouri . or OKLA may have their shot at the Marquette coach. The knock on Anderson ‘s team this year is it can’t shoot or rebound.

  29. hoghawk hoghawk says:

I sure like the Butler coach. I think he would be 1a after Buzz.

  30. hoghawk hoghawk says:

Also I think Tim Floyd is 1b.

  31. News Carver News Carver says:

If these rumors about Anderson turn out to be true, I think it’s pretty clear that this thing had been decided before Pel was fired (probably on both sides). All Long’s talk about looking at coaches from across the country would certainly turn out to be B.S. as most have not been available to even gauge interest in the job.

I bet Long took the Cincy game pretty hard, although had Mike progressed deeply into the tourney, I guess it’s possible that could have hurt our chances to land him, since it is easier to hire a coach that his fan base does not want.

  32. News Carver News Carver says:

When it comes to Anderson, I think we should defer to the experts, that being the die hard Missouri fans, most of whom are also ready for a change, so I guess that makes it a good fit.

I’m not comfortable taking a coach that his own fan base does not want, but maybe that is all Long can get and we’ll just have to cross our fingers. It’s 90% talent anyway, all he needs to be able to do is hold on to Pel’s players and recruits and then get some momentum with those players to be able to recruit more top level talent down the road.

Look at Butler’s win over Pitt. Butler has two players that will be in the NBA, Mack and Howard.

  33. spud spud says:

Mike Anderson might be an upgrade over Pel (although that’s debatable), but he isn’t what we need. If it wasn’t for the Rollin with Nolan years, we wouldn’t be talking about him at all. Some people are still chasing past glories like they are the only way we can be successful. We can do better. There were two awesome guards right there in St. Louis and MA didn’t land either one of them. That doesn’t sound like someone we should be pursuing. If Pel had failed to side Madden and Mickelson, he would have been vilified by the fans and the press. I seriously doubt that Young stays if we hire MA. Come on Jeff Long, turn the page and move on. Hire Buzz Williams or Gregg Marshall.

  34. bigboi bigboi says:

Coach, Can you tell us what Otis is reporting on The Razor’s Edge message board?

  35. jamhog jamhog says:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/102849/julius-randle The #1 recruit for the class of 2013, according to ESPN, is considering the Missouri Tigers

  36. Coach Coach says:

    Otis says:

    My sources say Reply

If Mike Anderson has been hired it’s news to me. Take that FWIW. They still say it’s 90 percent likely they hire Buzz Williams. I don’t know, I could see Mike or Buzz and not disputing anyone’s sources, just telling you what 2-3 sources just told me. They did say Ben Howland or his agent one had told Long they would be very willing to listen.

  37. Coach Coach says:

Trey Biddy and Danny West wrote articles detailing, the coaches believed to be in the mix.

  38. bigboi bigboi says:

    Thx Coach.

Really hope we take a look at Ben Howland. He’s been a winner everywhere he has been. His style of play isn’t fast pace but people pay for winner.

  39. Coach Coach says:

jamhog, Randle sounds like a beast ! Thanks for the link. :P

  40. Coach Coach says:

    anytime bigboi, glad to help

  41. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I say we just put them all the best coaching choices in a lineup and let them pick.

  42. VantageHog VantageHog says:

By them, i mean the recruits.

  43. bigboi bigboi says:

The five recruits aren’t that important.

We only lose Jemal Farmer and Delvon Johnson.

If Ross makes the grades he is a Hawg.

If the rest leave he can find another recruit or JC big and put his class together for next year.

I’d love for all of them to stay but they can’t decide our next coach.

  44. Coach Coach says:

We also lose Britt who, IMO has become a pretty good player compared to where he started. He was our best perimiter defender. He is a bigger lose than Farmer IMO.

We may lose Young but we will be ok in the long haul.

  45. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Unless we hire a coach I haven’t heard mentioned yet, if we don’t keep the talent that’s coming in, we’ll be watching a mediocre team get beat by good teams and play weak non conference schedules for at least two more years.

Given that fact, I’d have no problem letting them decide between our top 2 or 3. It’s be an awesome galvanizer and an awe inspiring story to be able to tell recruits.

I’m thinking outside the box here. I don’t expect many to agree.

  46. bigboi bigboi says:

Is their good teams in the SEC West?

It only takes one skilled 6’8″ – 7′ post to turn you into a winner.

  47. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Why can’t we let then decide, big boi? Is there really that big of a difference in coaching ability between Buzz and MA?

  48. bigboi bigboi says:

I’m not pushing for one over the other?

Just we couldn’t wait on firing CJP just to keep the recruits.

I think we would be in better hands (then CJP) if the job fell to Shaka Smart.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka_Smart

  49. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I gotcha, big boi. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about Shaka. I don’t think there’s a coach we’re seriously targeting right now that we couldn’t get though, and he’s probably too low to get any real consideration.

  50. beasley beasley says:

I hope ever who they hire that he runs a up tempo offence, i don’t want to set and watch paint dry and the recruits sure dont so why get a turtle offence minded coach. let em loose.

  51. mudhog mudhog says:

If things with MA went south then I expect for things to get pretty tense whenever Marquette loses. Oklahoma and maybe more schools have Buzz Williams as their #1 guy, so I’m anxious to see how all of this is going to play itself out if in fact we’ve shifted our focus to Buzz.

  52. mudhog mudhog says:

If Texas was smart then they would get rid of Rick Barnes and then it would be all she wrote for whoever is after Buzz!

  53. bigboi bigboi says:

Rumor is MA wants more then AD Long expected.

With Oklahoma and Tenn open the price just went up for Buzz and others.

  54. News Carver News Carver says:

Not with you there Bigboi that the recruits don’t matter. If this was Pel’s inherited recruiting class of Britt, Rakestraw, and the European player that never made it, then I would agree with you.

The best coach out there cannot win with mediocre talent, and MA sure as hell can’t.

  55. beasley beasley says:

    Marq 51 Syrracuse 53 5:30 left

  56. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Come on syracuse! Get it done so we can finish our search and save some cash in the process.

  57. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Tied at 59 with 1:26 left.

  58. beasley beasley says:

Marquette 66 Syracuse 62 Buzz stock is going up.

  59. beasley beasley says:

Marquette plays tough defence i enjoy watching them play.

  60. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I like watching them play too. I just wish we didn’t have to sit through another week of purely speculative journalism. If anderson isn’t announced as our coach tomorrow, this is going to get unbearably annoying.

Marquette was lucky to draw syracuse . Their run and gun style is the kryptonite to syracuse’s normally stout zone. I had unc going to the elite eight for that same reason, thinking they’d be playing syracuse. Now i’m not so sure if they’ll advance. Marquette will be facing their mirror image offensively in unc and unc’s strong man defense along with their size advantage will likely spell their defeat. That being said, unc has laid a few eggs this year and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them do it again. Their two leaders (barnes and marshall) looked like the freshman that they are today. They will get beat if they come out looking like that next weekend. It should be a circus act of a basketball game and very fun to watch.

  61. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I believe it was ll cool j that said “don’t call it a comeback, just cal it a win.” In this case, don’t call it an upset, just call it a win, if marquette get’s the w next weekend.

  62. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

With Marquette beating Syracuse, we lost out again because with that win, the Coach price tag just possibly get out of Long’s reach. With the money they are demanding, we might as well go for Self, Pitino, Roy Williams and Coach K. These 4 coaches I mentioned above are truly great major talents, been there, done that. I won’t mind paying more for tickets to see the game. Let’s not hire wannabes.

  63. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

To start off, pay the new coach as salary higher than what Calipari is making at Kentucky. See if we have any takers from the great major talents i mentioned above. Make him the hightest paid coach in college.

  64. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

    But please NO MIKE ANDERSON.

  65. beasley beasley says:

Self, Pitino, Roy Williams and Coach K I think that is a dream, I don’t think Arkansas would pay a bball coach more than they do CBP, to get one of them 4 you’re talking around 4 million.

  66. spud spud says:

This has been a great day! Notre Dame loses, Texas loses, if only Duke has lost too.

  67. bigboi bigboi says:

Coaches in the 2 – 2.25 miliion range: Ben Howland, Bob Huggins, Rick Barnes, Mike Krzyzewsk, and Rick Pitino

  68. Coach Coach says:

    Thanks for the link bigboi.

To me this news leaked by Sexton screams “Mo Money”. Why else would he talk about terms publicly. I think we should tell Anderson we will think it over and then try to get a deal with Buzz. If that dont happen then come back to Anderson. After all, Anderson won’t go anywhere right now except Arkansas.

  69. Coach Coach says:

I found this article that seems to back up what my gut has been telling me from the start.

    http://kansascity.sbnation.com/missouri-tigers/2011/3/20/2062636/mike-anderson-arkansas-coach-mizzou

  70. tyler tyler says:

Am I the only one who is interested in the VCU coach? First of all, they’re in the Sweet 16 this year with subpar talent even for them and they barely snuck in. He’s young, like 30 or so, but that could help with recruiting. Also, he’s proven that he could do great things at a small school, even without a legit NBA talent like Eric Maynor. If we don’t get this guy now, I’m sure he’ll get swooped up by an even bigger program in the next few years.

  71. tyler tyler says:

    his name is Shaka Smart.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/ncaa-tournament-vcu-coach-shaka-smart-has-a-method-to-march-madness/2011/03/19/AB3jPfx_story.html

“At 33, Smart is the second-youngest coach in the NCAA tournament, and consequently, Jones said, he is better than most in the profession at relating to the mind-set of his players. Smart constantly searches for unique motivational tactics, but his general disposition and the style of play he promotes does the job about as well as any wisdom-infused quote.
Smart and his assistants are known to play pickup games with one another, and when the players walk by and see their head coach calling his shots and talking trash, a pervading sense of buoyancy washes over them. “It’s just something that moves naturally from him to the team,” Jones said.”

  72. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I’m with you on that one, Coach. I think Buzz is attainable and more than likely going to leave Marquette after the tourney. Here’s an excerpt from a Milwaukee paper. The “i’m just a small town boy” quote makes me think he’s looking for a “small town” like Fayetteville to coach in if he’s truly shopping his services and the incredibly genius way he squelches the rumor talk make me think he’s truly got his feelers out. Combine that with the fact that he’s coaching like a pro in a contract year and that he’s supposedly only getting $1.4mill per year right now and what do you get?

A perfect fit, IMO. Right around $2mill per year for five-six years.

    http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118052929.html

    start quote –
Williams was asked on Tuesday, just prior to MU’s departure for Cleveland, in general terms about the current rumors. With a second-round matchup with the Xavier Musketeers just three days away, it obviously wasn’t something he’s spent a lot of time thinking about.

    Nevertheless, he offered a response.

“I don’t read that stuff. I know that it’s going on,” he said. “This is not to dodge any question; I think that I am the most accessible and honest coach that there is, and that’s what I want to be about. But I do think that it’s unfair for me to make it about me relative to all the work that we have done and that our kids have done. I would rather the attention be on them.

“I think that’s the way that it should be. And I don’t think there’s any right or wrong way to answer a question, but I do think that it’s always right to make sure that the players are first. Considering that it was probably perceived that I couldn’t coach six weeks ago, nobody ever asked me, ‘Can you coach?’ So now, somebody on the Internet says I can coach, now everybody wants to say, ‘Well, where are you going to coach?’

“I think my track record relative to who I am speaks for itself. That’s not to be arrogant; that’s just what I believe to be true. Six weeks ago nobody in the world thought that we would be playing in the NCAA Tournament. So I would appreciate — you’re doing your job; I’m doing mine — that all of the focus be on our guys.

“I’m not reading the Internet. I’m not reading Todd’s stuff, I’m not doing Facebook. Not Twittering. I’m just a country kid from a little small town, and I don’t think you have to do all that.” – end quote

  73. Coach Coach says:

Thanks VH, I saw Buzz on TV when he said some of those things.

About their fans … They say … (One mans trash is another mans treasure).

Marquette fans can talk all the trash they want about Buzz. They don’t realize they have a treasure on their hands.

Milwaukee, like Fayetteville seems to be a stop and not a destination although I believe we are more of a stop kinda place now. We have great facilities, Small Town atmosphere, and an entire state starved for a winner on the court. Build that winner and they will come (back)

  74. mudhog mudhog says:

Well, here’s what I think, if we somehow miss out on MA and BW then things will get very interesting. I would like to think Shaka Smart would give us a look but for those who may not know, Shaka is a product of the Billy Donovan coaching tree. He was an assistant with the gators for one season (08-09) before becoming head coach at VCU when Anthony Grant left for Bama. The way Billy D talked about Arkansas in letting Pel go I would imagine he would tell Shaka “anywhere but Arkansas”, I don’t know.

Even looking at the possibility of Shaka Smart, it may seem like an okay hire but I would see that as us taking a few steps back from Pel, so that would be a letdown imo, as far as firing Pel and getting a proven winner but when you’ve exhausted all of your options then I guess you have no choice. Jeff Long would just have an egg on his face if he misses out on our top 2 targets!

  75. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

fayettville arkansas is more of a stop kinda place now? outdated facilities that has left past recruits to go to baylor, and ok. st. (udoh, anderson, both cited the facilities in thier reason for not choosing ark). dont kid yourself, fayettville is the posterchild for flyover state. what is making it so appealing, the recruits that we are going to lose anyway? long better already have his coach lined up, or he should be fired too.

  76. hoghawk hoghawk says:

    Buzz, Butler,or Tim.

  77. Coach Coach says:

    Thanks for the link VH.

Pearl had a great situation. What a shame to throw it all away. Such a waste.

For those fans who want Pearl here. He will most likely be suspended from coaching by the NCAA for 1 year.

  78. We don’t need him. Besides, Jeff Long and the BOTs have already decided to go after a head coach that doesn’t come with baggage. Pearl has plenty.

  79. Coach Coach says:

So much for that “DONE DEAL” for Anderson. First Tubby, then Anderson. These reporters are throwing their credibility (or lack of) out the window just to be the first one who could say: I scooped the story.

They are starting to sound alot like …… Dare I say …… politicians :P :P :P

Hats off to Long for his secrecy !

  80. Buzz Williams will be our next head coach. Wait and see.

  81. mudhog mudhog says:

Mizzou preparing deal to keep Mike! No real big news there and as the saying goes, “it never hurts to listen.”

    http://www.stltoday.com/sports/article_28525b44-53f6-11e0-b074-00127992bc8b.html

  82. kbhogwild kbhogwild says:

please not Anderson, i have seen a lot of names mentioned on this site and i can take buzz and be happy. but i cannot believe we would do all of this for Anderson. why dont we just suspend the basketball program if this is the best we can come up with. its like we dont really exist anyway

  83. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

There are several possibilities on the Anderson front. He could just be taking some time off to deal with the death of a friend, or Jeff Long may have offered him an inflexible “deal” hoping he would not take it (if the word is true that certain powerful people are dead set against Anderson because of his Nolan baggage), or maybe the deal was good and Anderson is just trying to lobby for more money. The other option is that Anderson’s agent is just feeding a lot of disinformation to the press so that Anderson can turn the rumors into a bigger Mizzou paycheck. I certainly hope that is not the case.

And…here is more evidence that Pel was literally ruining our program and costing us much more than his piddling salary. http://www.arkansassports360.com/24113/arkansas-business-financial-losses-loomed-large-in-pelphrey-firing

  84. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Here’s a good read from MA’s flirtations last year. Lot’s of similarities to this this year. Seems like Arkansas is the perfect leverage for him to get his retirement contract out of them.

    http://www.rockmnation.com/2010/4/18/1429030/welcome-to-jimmy-sextons-world

Marquette fans were carrying “fire buzz” signs to their home games down the stretch. While they have likely put left them in the garage while watching from home, Buzz will not forget that and will seize his opportunity to get closer to his home and accept our offer if Tennessee doesn’t out-bid us. Oklahoma’s just too big of a project at this point.

  85. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

I’m afraid Buzz Williams is too big of a project.

  86. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

Anderson would be a grand-slam hire. Buzz Williams would be a decent hire.

  87. VantageHog VantageHog says:

@PHFTW – That article uses easy math that doesn’t exactly tell the whole story. He lost money relative to what, exactly? Relative to Nolan’s era? Relative to the year before he arrived? The story claims losses relative to a packed house every night which hasn’t happened since 97′-98′. Average attendance during the Heath era was 15409. Average attendance during the Pelphrey era was 14680. The economy didn’t have a massive meltdown during Heath’s tenure either and Heath got one more year than Pelphrey. Pelphrey would’ve closed the gap next year.

I’m not saying he didn’t lose the university money (because he did), but saying that the money he was failing to generate for the university usurped his annual salary is not true. The figure is actually closer to $400,000.

  88. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Buzz might be the hardest working coach in college basketball. His personality body slams MA’s.

  89. fliphog fliphog says:

My guess is that Jeff Long is not sitting around waiting for any one coach to decide. He is working the phones and no doubt talking to numerous coaches and agents. in the end the right guy will be found

  90. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

Mike A. only had one senior on the roster this year. Buzz has 4.

  91. mudhog mudhog says:

I can’t imagine MA being the coach here and letting 5star Archie Goodwin get away from us like he let Beal and Young get away.

  92. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

there was a reason that MA did not recruit Young.

  93. PK PK says:

i’ve read all the stories about Buzz Williams and he’s undoubtably a great story and orator, but we just got done with a long-winded coach without any real proven experience.

He inherited arguably one of the best backcourts in the country (at that time) and since those vets have gone to pasture his win totals has declined annually.

They have made a good run thus far in the tourney, but don’t forget some had them as a bubble team going in…

Too Bad we didn’t keep Pel a year longer, Secure our 2011 class, then bring Bruce Pearl (and memphis recruiting along with him)

  94. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

and buzz will run into a buzz saw against UNC.

  95. bigboi bigboi says:

PeytonHillis_FTW, Can U (or anyone with a rivals account)tell us what Trey Biddy reported today on The Razor’s Edge message board?

  96. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

no, but judging from the clothes that Buzz is wearing in that picture, he is just as bad at wearing horrible suit/tie/shirt patterns as Pel was.

  97. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

Peyton’s personal hatred for Pel is showing here. He even hate the way Pel wear his suit and patterns,

  98. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Phftw, I hope we’re right about unc. Not only do I wasn’t to get our search over with, but I’ll be at my step mother in law’s birthday party during the game and they’re some of the biggest carolina fans around. They aren’t used to losing to teams like marquette. I’ll be the black sheep of the family if buzz beats them and then becomes a hog.

  99. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

I am amazed, astonished, and frankly disappointed that some of you guys actually want Bruce Pearl. I don’t want a liar and a cheater as the coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. I would rather be number two with a clean conscious, than to be number one, having cheated, and getting all of our wins and titles stripped away.

I think we can find a very good coach, without having to go after Bruce Pearl or Tim Floyd! Has it been so long since we were good, that some of our fans are ready to BUY a championship? disturbing…

  100. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

I object — my despise for Pelphrey’s patterns has nothing to do with my despise for his coaching ability. LOL.

  101. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

“I am amazed, astonished, and frankly disappointed that some of you guys actually want Bruce Pearl. I don’t want a liar and a cheater as the coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. ———————–
your mistake is that you think it is possible for a Top Tier basketball program to have a “clean conscious” that includes not even secondary violations.

  102. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

secondary violations mainly occur because of the rediculous rules that the NCAA has. Lying and covering up for cheating is not secondary violations! Paying players is not a secondary violation.

  103. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

There’s always going to be minor violations going on. That is not what I’m talking about, and “minor violations” are not why Bruce Pearl was fired either. He was fired because he violated rules, then covered it up, then lied to the NCAA about it, and then a week after he met with them and promised to be good, and cried on TV about how he was gonna do things right, he then violated the rules again! Dumb, and blatant!

  104. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

Bruce Pearl will also probably be slapped with a “show-cause” that will keep him from coaching anywhere for a while. BTW I think he’s a great coach, i just wish he was honest.

  105. razorback roger razorback roger says:

I guess I will get thru this week until Spring Foobaw starts up again. groan….I dont really care who is the Arkansas basketball coach. But to a disinterested person like me Buzz does look refreshing

  106. HogFanDan HogFanDan says:

Pearl will probably end up with a punishment like Kelvin Sampson’s: 3 years probation. Sampson won’t be reinstated until 2013. Pearl will be coaching the Under 20 Guatemalan basketball team if he’s lucky.

  107. No way Arkansas looks at Pearl.

  108. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Missouri’s boosters haven’t dried a bead of sweat according to this article. Sorry, phftw. I’m sure you’ll learn to love buzz. I just hope tennessee doesn’t get us into a bidding war we can’t win. They plucked their last great coach from a lesser power in milwaukee. Then again, tennessee isn’t exactly close to home for him. Oklahoma just isn’t as good of a job right now, so i’m not really worried about them.

    http://www.kansascity.com/2011/03/21/2743167/some-mu-boosters-calmed-as-school.html

  109. beasley beasley says:

The cluster is starting and we may be lucky to get a good up and coming mid major coach, so far Arkansas has been a good steping stone to get D1 coaches a pay raise.

I would have liked M Anderson but it looks like he will be a tiger, and I don’t know about Buzz we’ll have to wait on him.

I just hope this don’t turn out like it did when we got Pel. I don’t like loseing the recruits and being the butt of all jokes like last time.

First i love the Hogs and love being a Hog fan, and nothing makes me anymore mad than someone running down or school and our sports programs, useing a title from a song IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE RAZORBACKS YOU CAN KISS MY ***, so i’ll support who we get and hope for the best.

  110. beasley beasley says:

Vantage thanks for the link. well another one bites the dust.

  111. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    No problem, beasley.

  112. mudhog mudhog says:

I can see Billy D & Pel sitting back laughing & putting back a few cold ones when they get word that were turned away by one of our own.

Whevever this job comes open again MA’s name better not be mentioned! If he did all of that for a raise then it’s obvious he doesn’t want to come back as bad as I thought! We as Razorback fans have got to stop living in the past and move on because “40 minutes of hell” has moved on and it ain’t looking back!

  113. It’s about time. The lovefest with Mike was starting to get really old and was obviously playing right into the hands of Jimmy Sexton.

I think a lot people believe that Mike was Jeff Long’s top priority to preceed John Pelphrey. I don’t believe that at all.
Tubby’s season ended early and Mike’s followed close behind.
Those are the only reasons Arkansas was in contact with either.

Knowone wants to believe what Jeff Long has been preaching all along. We’re going to get a good coach, but there is no timeline.
Everyone just continues listening to all these media outlets and comes away shaking their heads. It’s your own fault for doing so.

If Buzz Williams want’s the job, he’ll be here next season. Mark it down.

  114. mrc005 mrc005 says:

I didn’t know if it was true when I heard it but this makes since to me now that MA said that Arkansas didn’t have enough money to get him to come back here. Long offered him to please the MA lovers but it’s going to be a buzz or shaka type coach that we get. Which I am happier with, or give me the Bobby petrino of basketball. Someone who changes things up.

  115. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I can’t wait to get Buzz on campus. He’s the perfect personality for our fan base, he can flat out coach, and he can flat out recruit. His no nonsense attitude is what we loved about nolan. He’s the only coach that recruited all three of our potential “wild cards” in the recruiting class. There’s a reason his suits are ugly. He doesn’t have time to care about suits.

    http://www.syracuse.com/poliquin/index.ssf/2011/03/poliquin_marquette_coach_buzz.html

  116. bigboi bigboi says:

Ben Howland should get the next look.imo

Buzz would take the job if offered.

Shaka Smart, John Thompson III, Frank Martin, Mike Davis Should be on the emergency list.

  117. mrc005 mrc005 says:

My biggest oncern now is losing a coach to the Tennessee money.

  118. beasley beasley says:

Frank Martin is a out of control wildman, check him out on youtube.

  119. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

i did not participate in the Mike Anderson lovefest. However I am very thankful that MA did not do an “Altman” to embarass Arkansas. We are now again left to pick from the leftovers. We were turned down by our top 2 choices. We have 3 consecutive non sensical firings of basketball coaches and it will give pause to any candidate who may consider the job. If I am that coach, I will demand a 5 year “no fire” clause. I will also demand that I can quit anytime for any reason and the University is to buy out the reamaining years of my contract. One sided? Yes it is but that is the only way I am going to Arkansas.

  120. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

After all is said and done, Long may have to go too. It remains to be seen. Go Hogs!!!!!

  121. bigboi bigboi says:

I will demand a 5 year “no fire” clause. I will also demand that I can quit anytime for any reason and the University is to buy out the reamaining years of my contract. This is a top 15 job not SMU football 1989!

    Marquette, Butler and Tim Floyd!!!!!

  124. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

Coach, I only say that because of our history of firing coaches. We have fired our last 3 consecutive basketball coaches, even the one that won us a National Championship.

  125. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

Bigboi, I thought you are in the loop of what is going on and now you are asking me : Who?

  126. boubalos boubalos says:

A lot of people seem to think Anderson is the Guy. I just do not see how getting the 9th best coach from the Big 12 is a real good deal. It seems to me that there are three or four others out there what would be far better. However, they probably will go to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri.

  127. Coach Coach says:

Richardson as well as Anderson have a certian style of play that not many players like to play which is why it is so hard to recruit 5* players in that. They look for the long athletic type first. Not basketball players first. I have heard a couple of players on the Hogs don’t like Anderson’s style.

Anyway, I guess we won’t need to worry about that now.

  131. boubalos boubalos says:

I would prefer, either Buzz, or the guys from Wichita or VCU. The problem now, is that we are in competition with Oklahoma, and Tennessee. I doubt that Long would have Floyd high on the list, but he probably would be one of the 5 best coaches that might be willing to come to Arkansas.

  132. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    Coach,

I know, right? If Long has been planning this all along, or better yet, had an agreement in principle all along, I will never question him again. I was as vocal as anyone that firing our coach with this class coming in was not a smart move, but I never thought we could replace him a coach that could keep this whole class together. I have no doubt that Buzz can. And, never in my wildest dreams did I think that we could’ve had a coach waiting in the wings with as much raw coaching talent and drive as this guy, much less with the perfect down home country boy persona to fit our fans. He’s a man on a mission.

The greatest coaches in history have essentially been great performance philosophers. Wooden is the king of them all, but Lombardi, Rockne, Auerbach, Phil Jackson, Dungy, Coach K all fit the bill. I can clearly see that Buzz is that type of coach.

Will he reach their level of accolades? Probably not. But, I now feel it was well worth it to let Pelphrey go, if Long knew we had a good shot at Buzz. He will keep the class together if hired and has a chance to be as close a thing as there could be to the next Wooden.

  143. VantageHog VantageHog says:

MA is Dawson’s sentimental favorite. He wants MA to be our next coach, but it’s not going to happen. That article was a non-story and shouldn’t have been written or published. 144. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

LOL. you guys are so jumping the gun. At this point there is a better chance of MA being the next head coach than Buzz Williams. Dudley said this afternoon the only thing that may be holding up the press conference is that the arkansas baseball game is tonight. but we should know soon. Also, Shawn Arnell said earlier today that the chances are an 8.75 out of 10 that MA is coming to Arkansas. On saturday his source said it was an 8.

It appears that Missouri and Arkansas were still negotiating with MA even today, but MA will prob make a decision soon.

Things are looking good! WPS!!!!!!! Don’t worry belpa and vantage, i’m sure you guys will grow to love mike anderson if he gets hired and pledge him your undying loyalty :)

    WPS!!!!!!

YES MONEY DOES MATTER TO JEFF LONG and Buzz Williams has a 3 million dollar buyout, compared to MA’s 500k buyout, thus Buzz will NOT be coming to Arkansas.

  147. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

    One final tidbit….. http://campuscorner.kansascity.com/node/1738

This is an interesting look at all of the coaches that get paid over 2 million dollars. All of them except for one has been to the Final 4.

I think 2 million is def in Arkansas’ budget if Missouri can afford to offer MA that much, so both Missouri and Arkansas should be expecting a Final 4 appearance when they are shelling out that kind of money.

  148. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Sounds more like you’re only getting your info from one of the journalist that got personally apologized to by Nolan on his way out. Do you have any information other than one reporters opinion that he’s coming? Do you really think that UA boosters/administration could keep an imminent MA hiring quiet?

I’m getting my information from all over the place. And common sense of course. If he was going to be our head coach, the press conference would’ve been yesterday and Sexton wouldn’t have waited for Missouri’s Board of Curators to put their extension contract together.

The only wild card is that he’s at a funeral of a close friend today and people are known to do unpredictable things when grieving.

  149. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

i have been scouring every possible source of info though, and theres a lot of smoke screens from both the Missouri and Arkansas press. you tend to believe the missouri story, whereas i tend to think the missouri program is delusional and overconfident about keeping MA

  151. OKOFCOURSE OKOFCOURSE says:

    Fortsmith Hog:

    (1) He’s a textbook Bureaucrat just like John White who hired him whose solution to every problem is to throw money at it….i.e. the Golden Handcuffs dismissal of Houston Nutt which was similar to the million dollar home coming game Long paid Tulsa to play. Nebraska wouldn’t even pay Boise State a million to come to Nebraska.

    (2) Since he’s been here he has already raised ticket prices for the football and basketball games although we are (were) one of the most financially stable programs in the SEC (I guess he is just porking-up for future problem solving). This will hurt the great atmosphere here at home that it has already done to the basketball games (which Long is blaming Pelphrey for and not his price raises) because a large portion of the fan base are not rich. I think the best and loudest fans might just be the ones that may not be able to afford tickets.

    (3) Now he wants to build a 35 million dollar practice facility for the basketball team that other schools have but we don’t need because our basketball gym is owned totally by the U of A athletic department (so far) and our team can practice there any time they desire (so far again).

    (4) When John McDonald resigned Jeff Long didn’t even ask John to delay his announcement so he could find a replacement. This allowed Florida State’s Athletic Director to give a raise and insert a buy out clause (and also promises of up-grading their track facilities) on their National Championship winning track coach’s new contract. This was done the very next day after McDonald announced his resignation and so Florida State kept their coach.

    (5) I don’t think I need to go into the Football coaching search which Broyles and Jerry Jones bailed him out on.

Long is doing exactly what he said he would do. Take time to get the right coach. Long has not said one single word about Anderson, or anyone else for that matter.

I dont understand the hatred on here. I love the Hogs no matter who the coach is, or isn’t. Whomever the AD is, or isn’t.

I swear some of you act like you are gonna throw a temper tantrum at take the ball home with you.

  163. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

its called negotiating. mike anderson is going to get as much money as he can, because he knows how quickly a coach’s fortunes can change.

  166. VantageHog VantageHog says:

And the negotiations are following whose timelines? The University of Missouri. That means that they have the leverage on him. If you’re itching to get out of dodge, you get out of dodge as fast as you can.

If he wanted to be here, he would be here by now. They already approved his extension/raise this morning.

The board of curators joke with the press today that they could share their information from their meeting on MA’s extension/raise if they wanted to, but they didn’t want to.

That’s way too calm and collected to be someone that fears their head coach is about to dart. You don’t na na na na boo boo the press if you just had a meeting with a serious and intense tone. How many jokes were flying from the podium about Pelphrey before he left? None.

  167. VantageHog VantageHog says:

All of the chatter makes complete sense to me. Mizzou get’s close to re-signing their coach and those with financial incentives (see: anyone that makes money from advertising) start spewing out more rumors to get their page views and ratings spikes before what they thought was going to be their golden goose is gone.

And again: I’m fine with either Anderson or Buzz. I think both a great coaches. I just prefer Buzz because I think he has a better chance of keeping the class together.

Here’s some interesting facts for you. Mike Anderson let his two top recruits in state get away, but…Buzz Williams offered Hunter, BJ, and Ky Madden, and recruited Ross and Abron. So, our top recruits didn’t choose either one of these guys over Pel. I find that interesting.

Also, Buzz Williams was on PTI, they seem to be real high on him, although there was no mention of coaching rumors. He seemed a little more reserved than normal, but had a couple of funny moments, one where he poked fun at Mike Wilbon(who was off today) Tony said that Wilbon didn’t think that Marquette shouldn’t be in the Tourney, and Buzz said that’s probably why Wilbon’s readership has been declining!

I was starting to think that MA was using us to get a raise, which is Jimmy Sexson’s M.O., which would have caused me to totally be done with MA, but that may not be the case according to some sources. It seems like Jeff Long is keeping his usual tight lip, and the media folks, and the folks interested in keeping MA at MO, or wanting him at UA, are the only ones leaking the info.

At this point, I will be happy with either Mike or Buzz, I think they are two vastly different candidates, but both are at the top of their particular style and experience level.

    just my opinion

  169. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

pardon the double negative about the Wilbon comment…Wilbon didn’t think that Marquette should be in the Tourney…is what i meant

  170. Coach Coach says:

I didn’t single any one person out when I made my comment on here, but there are times when it is certainly warranted. My comments were not directed at only one person.

  171. OKOFCOURSE OKOFCOURSE says:

I don’t like Buzz’s antics on the sidelines…..I don’t need a prima donna on the sidelines putting on a show for me. If people are mad on players leaving the team…just wait till Buzz gets here.

I just heard that Pelphrey’s in the running for the job @ Tennessee.

  172. beasley beasley says:

I’ll support ever who they get, but Jeff Long is not telling but he will before bball seasonn starts.

  173. OKOFCOURSE OKOFCOURSE says:

Then go call in to Drive Time Sports because that’s where I just heard it and tell them about it. LOL

  174. Coach Coach says:

I wouldn’y be surprised if Pelphrey gets the Tennessee job. They got a real mess to clean up on ole rocky top. :P :P :P

And I do believe Pelphrey would do a good job at that.

  175. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

Also, I don’t think anyone will be able to get Butler’s coach. He seems to be happy doing what he’s doing, and he may be able to turn Butler into the next Duke or NC, Butler has never experienced this type of success, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up. I’d love to have him too though.

  176. Anderson would be a better financial hire for the basketball program than he would be as a quality head coach. He WILL put butts in the seats.
That isn’t to say Mike isn’t a good coach because he is, but there are better, fundmentally sound head coaches in this search to be had.

With all that being said, It’s being reported that Buzz Williams’s buyout is too high for the UofA, which means in the end, Mike Anderson may end up being the best candidate after all.

I’m still not buying that he’s coming here, but if so, I’ll support him 100%.

    GO HOGS GO, BABY!!!!!

  177. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

im scared gonzo. you are starting to make sense, but dont get a big head :)

  178. no question that either Anderson or Williams would be a welcome change from our last, possibly bipolar, head coach.
    ===========================================

A post like this will get you banned. No name calling period.

  179. Don’t worry Peyton, considering the source…..

  180. News Carver News Carver says:

I thought someone had blogged early on in this thing that Buzz didn’t have a large buy out clause, but I guess I could be confusing that with another candidate. That is unfortunate, because Buzz was my favorite realistic candidate so far.

I’m starting to wonder that if we don’t get Anderson, we might be headed for another search debacle like last time. I’d rather have MA than go through that again.

  181. News Carver News Carver says:

    Here’s a fun game Peyton,

    For every news article I can find that has Mike Anderson staying at Missouri, you try to find one that says Mike Anderson will sign with Arkansas;

Tag, you’re it. (Others are welcome to join in,LOL)

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_162-20046088-10391697.html

  182. News Carver News Carver says:

Well there may have been some news over the last hour or two that will not make this a fair contest:

    Tag, you’re still it.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6245054

  183. spud spud says:

I wonder what the buy-out is for Josh Pastner at Memphis. He is awful young (33), but he played on a national title team (Arizona 1997) and can definitely recruit. I think I could live with that choice.

  184. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

If Mike Anderson comes to Arkansas, I wonder if Corliss Willamson would be offered an assistant’s job…and if he would leave his head coaching job to come back to the Hill?

  185. VantageHog VantageHog says:

News, buzz’s contract isn’t public since marquette isn’t a state fined university. Someone would have to be real close to someone important in milwaukee to have a buyout figure. I don’t think anyone on this site has those kind of connections.

  186. spud spud says:

As a Coach??? Hell, put a jersey on him. I bet he can still play.

  187. News Carver News Carver says:

Yea, I don’t know where the $3M figure came from. I was going to do some checking on that to see what I could find when I started seeing these reports that MA was staying at Missou. All the more reason to find out more about Buzz and his contract, which as you are saying, I might not have much luck getting any details.

  188. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

He’d be invaluable as a coach teaching our bigs how to play up tempo as well as the post.

  189. belpazhog6 belpazhog6 says:

Vantage, the way 103.9 the buzz radio was reporting the un confirmed report, it was resign. They were talking about MA resigning, not re-signing. They were just reporting what they say they heard from their Missouri sources. The Arkansas side is very quite. All the chatters and speculation are coming from MIssouri. The Arkansas side speculators are mostly Anderson lovers, specially the media sports people.

  190. VantageHog VantageHog says:

News, this is too funny! It’s supposedly $3.8mil and the source is someone in Oklahoma via Wally Hall.

    Yeah, that’s credible. Ha ha.

  191. News Carver News Carver says:

Yea, I saw that. What a reliable source they have, LOL. I loved their phasing: “some guy from Arkansas” The only other mention was someone blogged that a Milwaukee reporter was on Bo’s radio show today and said that Buzz had a $3.8M buyout. Don’t know if anyone here heard that also?

Then there was the blogger that is supposedly Jim Lindsey’s son’s friend and so Jim Lindsey’s son is leaking out that MA is definitely hired. It’s all a lot of fun.

  192. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

Wally said today that he didn’t think Rotnei would fit into an uptempo style of play no matter who the coach is. Am I retarded, but, if i’ve got a guy who struggles to get open looks in a half court offense, because the opponents constantly shadow him, wouldn’t he be more open in an uptempo offense? just seems obvious to me.

  193. Good morning guys. I ran across this link on HawgsIllustrated.
This is the first news I’ve heard that makes me think Mike may actually be heading to Fayetteville after all. Check it out.

    http://nwahomepage.com/fulltext-news/?nxd_id=225946

  194. mrprfct mrprfct says:

It’s clear that Wally, Dudley, Jim Harris, and the other members of the Arkansas media want Mike Anderson as the next coach. That’s why they’re reporting this huge buyout for Buzz. It’s odd that a school would have such a large buyout for a guy that had a losing season in his only year as a head coach before taking an assistant job at that school. I’m not buying it.

  195. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Gonzo, I bet the source in that story is Dudley Dawson.

  196. hoghawk hoghawk says:

Bigdaddyd; There are very few people in Arkansas who takeWally seriously. He is the only man I know who can write a column in the paper (going on and on) and still no one can make sense out of it. Or he just rambles and tells you what everybody all ready knows..

  197. VantageHog VantageHog says:

I’m just so worn out by all the 100% speculative reporting. Half the stories coming from the arkansas side seem to be literally made up. There are multiple outlets that have said “MA to be named coach” yet there isn’t even a solid report anywhere that we’ve actually offered the job to anyone yet.

The most recent and most concrete thing we have is Jimmy Sexton saying they are working on an extension with Missouri. He’s obviously working a raise out of Missouri in my mind and that move was to try and get Arkansas to informally submit a higher offer to try and squeeze any last bit out of Missouri that he can.

Sources on the Arkansas side that said he’s headed here also said it’s not a bidding war situation at the same time. The source is either biased or an easily convinced person being blatantly naive. And if the source is right that it’s not about money? That means he’s staying at Missouri. If it wasn’t about the money and he was coming to Arkansas for some sentimental reason, he’d have been calling the hogs by now.

Why? Because he didn’t need a bidding war to get money out of Arkansas. He needed a bidding war to get money out of Missouri. We have made it known that we’re ready to pay big money to someone and he was supposedly our top target. If he really was number one on our list he had all the leverage on us. I think reality is closer to it being a 1a-1b situation with him and Buzz and Long has never planned on formally offering either one until both were able to come to the table.

  198. mudhog mudhog says:

If MA truly wants to stay at Mizzou then I think it would’ve been final by now, I mean it’s been awhile since their last and final game and he had to know that before the season ended that we were gonna come calling. I agree that all of the reports are ridiculous and the only people that really know what’s going on are the people who are actually physically involved in the situation.

At this point I don’t believe that it’s about the money at either school because I think both of the deals that are on the table are somewhat identical with the exception of more years with Mizzou. I don’t think either school is willing to go more than what they’ve already offered MA, so basically the decision is up to him and as long as he has taken to make that decision it would lead me to believe that it’s not about the money but more so a decision on which place he loves the most. That place could be Mizzou or it could be the UA.

  199. mudhog mudhog says:

LOL! ESPN has changed again after reporting Anderson to take extension with Mizzou. This is just too much!

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6249515

  200. bigdaddyd bigdaddyd says:

Andy Katz reports that his SOURCES SAY Mike Anderson is staying at Missouri!

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6245054

Wait, Andy Katz reports that his SOURCES say Mike Anderson is going to Arkansas

I’m so sick of the so called SOURCES, that everyone has, but no one will identify. What happen to real journalism?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6249515

  201. VantageHog VantageHog says:

At least they framed it as the speculation that it is. Too bad their headline is the same misleading one that everyone has used already. Mike Anderson was the number two trending search on google yesterday. I’m not surprised to see ESPN getting in on the click-hoarding action. If it was really just a formality, they’d probably be running it on air as well as their website.

I’ll believe it when I see the press conference. However, Nolan is probably about as good a source as they’re going to get. It appears that he’s the source but wouldn’t state his opinion on the record, so they have to cite him as an “anonymous source”.

So, what it comes down to is … do you trust Nolan’s word when he could be doing this to pressure a Missouri program that’s stalling with a lower than desired number right now?

    I’m undecided.

  202. Coach Coach says:

Common sense tells me that the reason for the delay on Anderson is the death of a close friend. It would be disrespectful to his friends family if he was off chasing a job and money that “WE ALL KNOW” will still be there for a few days.

If there is no movement on Anderson before Marquette loses then I believe Longs attention will shift.

If he has even offered Anderson the job.

  203. VantageHog VantageHog says:

edit – Nolan’s off the record word.

  204. boubalos boubalos says:

If Pel goes to Tennessee, how many recruits does he take with him?

  207. VantageHog VantageHog says:

Looks like it was a bidding war the whole time. We won by $200k+. I just hope that bj, ky, and devonta give him a good shot to keep them.

    Great links Guys!
When they take down your parking sign, that is about as official as it gets.

$1.8M, $2.0M, $2.2M whatever. When we can fill BWA, it’s nice to have the ability to out bid another D1 program. Really encouraging news about B.J. also.

First thought that hit me was that now after all this time has passed, this will finally give Nolan a chance to come back and be a bigger part of the history of the program and be able to enjoy some of the limelight he deserves as other ex-coaches do, such as Dean Smith, etc. It does seem to create some feeling of unity.

  219. marcm marcm says:

  220. News Carver News Carver says:

I kept searching ESPN, CBS, Tigernation, Sports360, Bleacherreport, etc, etc, etc, for hints as to which way this thing was going to play out.

Turned out my best source was some local blogger that knew Jim Lindsey’s son. From now on, if we want to know what is going on with Arkansas sports, we definitely need to ask Jim Lindsey’s son.

  221. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

its official! all over espn! the only one i am worried about is madden, the rest are staying. congrats coach anderson, welcome back!!!
