    Nice signing day section. Someone did a lot of work.

    It was posted here that NW ARK schools will delay scheduled signing press conferences from Wed to Friday due to the weather.

    Question Richard. I’m assuming that doesn’t delay the player’s official notification to sign and we will see all those today that were scheduled regardless of the weather. Is that correct? thanks

  3. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    Well, you better hope that you are a good luck charm with that. There are some that will hunt you down if this doesn’t go right. I’m rooting for you!!!

  44. razordoc44 razordoc44 says:

    KoDy Walker is delayed b/c of weather. Keante Minor is probably getting a lot of this weather too. Austin Beck is from Oklahoma so hopefully the weather is delaying him. The only real question left is Chris Barnett and we won’t know about him until Saturday. I’m very happy with this class and spring practice will be starting soon! BTW….Bobby Petrino will be on ESPNU at 4:08pm today.

    Mustain arrested for narcotics….

    LOS ANGELES — Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested late Tuesday night and held on a felony narcotics charge, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Bruce Borihanh confirmed Wednesday.

    Bail was set at $30,000. Mustain has not paid bail and is still in jail, Borihanh said.

    The arrest occurred shortly after 8 p.m. PT Tuesday by the West Valley division of the LAPD, and Mustain was later booked at the Van Nuys jail at 10:44 p.m.

    Mustain, 22, was preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and had been on campus at USC to work out in the school’s athletic facilities late last week. He started only one game in four seasons at USC, a 20-16 home loss to Notre Dame in November, after transferring from Arkansas in 2007.

    The Arkansas native was one of the most sought-after high school players in history.

  62. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    That might hurt his ‘draft stock’… :)

  63. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Ouch, $30,000 is high, even with a bond & USC doesn’t pay, when players don’t play ;)

  64. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Is Walker going to sign today or later, due to the weather?

  65. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Disregard the Walker question, saw where RD tweeted the status.

  66. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

    COM ON Chris we need u in HOG LAND u will be a welcomed addition to our already outstanding class, I hope u eant to be a part of a rising national contender on the recruiting and on the playing field, u should know u can be a BEAST in CBP system and get ot the next level with his teaching and development of players, I hope u will be a part of something special jsut like all of our new family members of the hog football team.

  67. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    Anyone have thoughts on who Chris Barnett will sign with today at 12:45 pm?

  68. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    I’m still keeping my fingers crossed on Justus Pickett, after his WVU visit, this coming weekend. We should have room for 1 or 2 more (counting wishful thinking on Barnett’s upcoming decision). Also, a CB surprise would be the icing on the cake!

  69. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    WPS on getting Walker’s signature in!

  70. mohogg mohogg says:

    I have a feeling Barnett is going to Miami. Their coach is bragging that he’s flipped a bunch of kids.

    I heard Mitch’s mom has scheduled a meeting with the Police Chief.

  73. razorback dude razorback dude says:

    Alright , Barnett What are you goona do!!

  74. porkfritter porkfritter says:

    I don’t know Mike. Chris said it was between Arkansas and Michigan. Who knows.

  76. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    He pulled a fake, going MI.

  77. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    Time to reinstate riles schollie.

  78. razorback dude razorback dude says:

    Sorry about Barnett fellow fans . I thought he had better sense.:-( We MOVE ON!!!

  79. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    If we reinstate riles schollie, we still wouldn’t get him for at least 1 or 2 more years. He still has to go to JUCO. I still think we’ll be on standby for him, vice versa…

  80. MoHog MoHog says:

    We got Peterson, and he wants to be a RAZORBACK, the way barnett jumps around he probably would have transfered in about a year

  81. nchog123 nchog123 says:

    Ony losing Barnett is a win for us. As I said yesterday, a kid who has flipped once is much more likely to flip again. What is hard to understand is that with the Mackey Award winner and Ben Clevland BOTH graduating this year, why would Barnett go to a quarterback scramble school like Michigan verses a pro offense school like Arkansas? Peterson was a stroke of genius by BP.

  82. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    On riles, if he has a legitimate shot at avoiding JUCO, by getting to go to the Prep route, then yes on reinstating the schollie (it won’t hurt to ‘know’ that we’ll have another good athlete, on campus soon).

  83. ccfarmer ccfarmer says:

    Barnett to Michigan–Chris–good luck with that!!! Get ready to block for those new RBs that are coming in this year. Whose going to throw to you?

  84. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    I think we have a very good class this year. It’s no suprise we’re finishing around 6 or 7th in the SEC. We play in the best conference, year in and year out.
    No wonder a NC comes fron the SEC almost every single year.
    Our class will probably settle in somewhere between 17th to 20th in the country according to Scout., and probably have 9 teams finish in the top 30.

  85. razorback roger razorback roger says:

    I can not say that I am really saddened to see Chris Barnett go to Michigan. Although I don’t wish him any ill will, it does appear to me that he has a LOT of growing up to do.
    If his heart is not totally with the team he committed to, he will not be dependable and will not excell.

  86. ccfarmer ccfarmer says:

    Glad to have Peterson–some experts say he would be a potential NFL- OL prospect if moved there. Obviously we will need him at TE now. We let 2 really good TEs get away screwing around with Barnett. i was hoping we would have pulled his offer 2 weeks ago. Tabb and Van del Wal were great TE prospects–would have liked to have had one of them as well.

  87. nate236 nate236 says:

    CBP no doubt is NOT bothered by the loss of Chris Barnett, as a head coach you can’t sweat it out over a flaky teen who still has almost a year to go before his knee is back at 100%. Peterson is much more the type of athlete and talent that CBP covets. Our loss is Michigans’ misfortune…great looking class CBP and staff..WPS

  88. hog70 hog70 says:

    I believe BP ha already decided Barnett could come or go, he wasn’t counting on him. You can’t count on him. Michigan is his THIRD school. We’ll be fine and he’ll be miserable. I’d be surprised if he finishes up where he starts. We move on and recognize this is a solid class. We have gone into areas never before known to us. It just gets better and better. I love this class of new Hogs. Welcome!!!!!!!!!

  89. spaz cauleyhog says:

    michigan sucks

  90. BigHogFan BigHogFan says:

    I don’t really even care that Barnett went Michigan… I certainly will not badmouth him.. Let’s be real… It’s not like he would have even played next season… He is not SEC ready.

    Austin Tate and Chris Gragg are, and they will get play a ton of snaps… They especially like Tate at FB.. Hefley or Ueckman or Big Tex are very nice third options..

    Petrino will always FTS… (Feed the Studs)… With all the playmakers at WR\RB and the loss of DJ, Cleveland, and Stumon.. I doubt we even use the FB\TE position as much as we have in the past…

    We are ABSOLUTELY LOADED at WR & RB… Almost scary…

  91. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    i honestly see our Canadian hog moving to TE. i know he was recruited as a Safety, but i really think he has the tools, he just needs to hit the weights some more. but he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and i think he will do well at any position the coaches put him.

  92. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    RD:
    are we done now, or is there still some possibilities. i mean we are right at our max right?

  93. BigHogFan BigHogFan says:

    I was under the impression that FB Morgan Linton was improving and impressing in practice…. To the point of earning a scholarship…. My thoughts are that Kiero Small proabably just stripped him of that….. Any thoughts? …Just curious…

  94. kbhogwild kbhogwild says:

    couple thoughts- very good recruiting class and coach has done well the last few years with much less. I am not sure but i am thinking that barnett was afraid of the competition if peterson signed and that was the delay in his signing to see where peterson went. mich mustain has made bad decision after bad and will never play in the NFL. any quarterback that says he does not want to play his freshman year and has mom at school with him does not have what it takes. oh, and nice move by the family to send him to the bigtime at a young age after being sheltered so that he can get into drugs. i do feel sorry for him.

  95. the player to be named later the player to be named later says:

    Did anyone see Barnett’s announcement? I’ve heard he did some kind of fake, acting as if he was picking the Hogs then going with Michigan. I hope this isn’t true. I absolutely loathe the classlessness of that sort of thing. Didn’t even like it when Fred Bledsoe did it in our favor a few years back. I don’t like losing a recruit, but if Barnett did that, I say Good Riddance. Have fun losing 7 games a year and freezing your a$$ off.

    Heard a funny story about something that happened this morning. HDN received a faxed signed LOI today from an uncommitted player he’d been recruiting. I don’t know who the recruit is, but apparently Nutt made a huge impression on his mom. Come to find out she wanted him to go to Ole Miss so bad that she forged her son’s sig on the LOI and sent it in. The kid’s real sig went on an LOI to Texas A&M, which is where he will play.

  96. News Carver News Carver says:

    Much happier to be getting Gosha and Peterson than Barnett. So if we were only going to sign two, those are the two I wanted.

  97. kbhogwild kbhogwild says:

    I wish i had a dollar for every time Barnett says ” damn its cold” the next 4 years. lol

  98. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    From his history, he probably won’t stay there longer than a year anyhow…

  99. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    we cant be full, because pickett is still being recruited.

  100. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    Barnett suprised me. He has everything working against him now. He has an idiot in Brady Hoke for a coach, he’ll be playing in an offense that throws the ball, but is geared to run with a running QB. Will his knee hold up in the cold? Who knows?
    How long will it be before he plauys on a winning team? Plus, he’s half a country away from his home in Texas.
    Bad choice IMO, but it was his to make. Very glad we got the Peterson kid. It was a good trade.

  101. Platinúm Jesús Platinúm Jesús says:

    Minor has signed, thank goodness he made it safe.

  102. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    Man I would like to know what riles and Pickett are goin to do!

  103. fliphog fliphog says:

    saw where Weir was a 4* by Tom Lemming….This is an outstanding class and I salute CBP and staff for what they accomplished so early in the process…it was a bit anti-climactic compared to the last minute rush that most recruiting years offer up. Can’t wait to get some early commits for 2012

  104. marcm marcm says:

    so are we done, just got online?

  105. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    I feel really good about Kane Whitehurst. After listening to CBP talk about his recruitment, I’m more certain then ever we’ve found a gem in this kid.
    CBP said when he watched video of Kane for the first time, the first thing he said was “I can’t believe he doesn’t have more offers”
    He also said he believed Kane was an apparant victim of the modern recruiting process, where when a player like Kane played QB at one school for a couple of years, but then transfered to another school and was switched over to play WR and STs with his great speed.
    Most of the recruits the services were following had already been involved with them for a couple of years and had already primarily based their rankings off the players Jr. season.
    Petrino believes potential recruits like Kane get overlooked in situations like this when they have breakout Sr. seasons, but weren’t really being looked at seriously before that.

  106. porkfritter porkfritter says:

    Does anybody have a link to the video of Petrino’s press conference? I’d like to hear it if anybody has it.

  111. Bigfoot bigfoot says:

    First, that is a great spread sheet. Many thanks to the people that put the work in on it.

    As for Chris Barnett, sorry to lose him. I think that CBP saw this coming and that is the reason he recruited Peterson. I thought we had too many TEs on the books for this year. That has now been taken care of. Long term, I have reservations on this kid’s real character. I truly hope my reservations are proven wrong.

    As for Mustain, his problems truly disappoint me. But if we look at the total background, we should have seen this coming. As for his Mother visiting with the Chief of Police, I doubt whether she can help him, certainly not like she could have helped him in Fayetteville. These LA attorneys are going to cost her BIG $$$$, even if this is his first offense.

  112. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

    Pretty sad how HD Nutt essentially nosedived the kid’s career life and well-being, when there was no reason for it.

  113. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

    Before we move on to 2012 recruiting — take a look at this link of the revenues for the SEC. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/19440/whos-making-money-in-the-sec

    Heres the revenue:
    * 1. Alabama — $71,884,525
    * 2. Georgia — $70,838,539
    * 3. LSU — $68,819,806
    * 4. Florida — $68,715,750
    * 5. Auburn — $66,162,720
    * 6. South Carolina — $58,266,159
    * 7. Tennessee — $56,593,946
    * 8. Arkansas — $48,524,244
    * 9. Kentucky — $31,890,572
    * 10. Ole Miss — $28,409,774
    * 11. Mississippi State — $14,551,275
    * 12. Vanderbilt — $14,152,061

  114. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    Any chance the hat switch was done to spite CBP for telling him his schollie was gone after he found out peterson was on board? Probably not, but most recruits don’t do that without a reason to give the “you could’ve had me” jab. Anyone heard anything like that? His hat ceremony was way after peterson committed so it’s a possibility.

  115. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

    plus…. barnett wasnt going to sign until saturday originally. I respect Richard a lot but I don’t agree with his statement that the recruitment of Peterson was totally disconnected from Barnett’s.

  116. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

    After seeing how much money SEC schools spend on football and how much revenue they earn from football, i decided to calculate a ratio of how much the schools spend compared to how much they earn. Here are the results:

    Vandy – 100% (They spend the same amount on their football program than they rake in from it)
    Ark – 45%
    Ala – 43%
    Aub – 42%
    LSU – 37%
    Fla – 36%
    GA – 26%

    To me, it was eyepopping that Georgia only spends 26% on football compared to what they rake in from football. Crazy. And Arkansas clearly is putting a high value on our football success– which is great to see.

  117. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    Well, it was probably pitched to everyone that it wasn’t connected, but the spite move and the expedited signing does seem to indicate he had some hard feelings. I personally wanted him bad, but if he couldn’t take competing for a job the I don’t want him.

  118. marcm marcm says:

    any word on riles?

  119. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    Yeah. I thought it was kind of strange that he was origionally going to sign on Friday or Saturday, but then after Peterson decided to sign with the Hogs, he suddenly changed his mind and said he was signing his LOI at 12:45 pm today.
    Maybe there was no connection. Maybe there was. Doesn’t really matter now though. We have Andrew Peterson and that’s good enough for me.

    Good luck in Michigan, Chris.

    i just watched Pony Excess today… and I have to say that the NCAA has almost zilch credibility in my book. by the time they start looking at Auburn’s boosters it will be too late.

  121. motor city chris motor city chris says:

    Enjoy freezing your a$$ off here in Michigan Barnett. You made a decision you WILL regret. It has been above 30 degrees only 2 days since I returned from the Sugar Bowl.
    Also I want to extend a huge thanks to all our new piglets that actually understand the word “commitment” and stuck to theirs, unlike Barnett and Ryles.
    Finally, I feel this class is good, but not great. We needed 1-2 more CB’s and 1 elite DE. If we get any injuries at CB, we are gonna have some problems next yr. against the pass.

  122. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    Our CBs for next season will be Madison, Winston, Bennett, Gaston, Fisher and Mitchell.
    Did I leave anyone out?

  123. nchog nchog says:

    Hi Richard,
    Where do you think Justus Pickett and Quenton Griffin will end up? Thank you for all the NSD updates! I thought the live setup was really good

  124. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    I, like others, was wanting another CB in this class but I just looked at the roster and we are returning 6 CB next year. Plus the 2 from this class. So, we will see.

  125. ccfarmer ccfarmer says:

    “WhiteLightning” Whtehurst avg 50 yards per KOR last year. Since Dennis had the major abdominal injury, I’m glad to see a guy that can do KO Returns. We really struggled when Dennis went down.

  126. ccfarmer ccfarmer says:

    I saw where Pickett has a visit to West Virgina 2/4. i think he’s going that direction. We didn’t have room for Griffin and he will be a nice pick up for someone

  127. mrc005 mrc005 says:

    Gonzo/
    I wasnt including Bennett. Seth Armbrust unless his injury took him out for good.

  128. porkfritter porkfritter says:

    So, we only signed 30. That means we only really signed 26. I wonder who won’t qualify?

  129. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    I think from how Bennett played this season, he’s going to be a good one.

  130. marcm marcm says:

    are u talking about callvin bennett?

  131. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    marcm,

    I believe you’re probably meaning to say CB Eric Bennett. I think you may be getting him confused with our Current 2012 commit, Juco DT Calvin Barnett.

  132. Coach Coach says:

    What are everyones thoughts on the 2011 recruiting class ?

  133. Coach Coach says:

    I think we did fairly well. There is always something we could improove upon. Arkansas is not the center of the sports world so it is hard to get kids to come. We have had the Petrino/ Atlanta thing used against us for the past 3 years. With Petrino’s new long term contract that won’t happen anymore. :P

    I know Petrino can find talent in unusual places but the fact still remains we need to get more of these STUDS around the country. If you look at the way Bama, LSU and Auburn reel in the big fish it will become harder and harder to beat them all in the same year.

    I can only imagine what Petrino could do with that kind of talent on a consistant basis.Til that happens I say we are in a good place with what we have. SEC and BCS titles are a long shot but not impossible. Congrats to the Recruiting staff. Go Hogs ! ! ! ! ! ! :P :P :P

  134. Bigfoot bigfoot says:

    Coach, I like what we signed. I think there is some real talent in this group. We got a QB that fits. There are several above average receivers here. And there is a lot of speed. We could have gotten another CB or two, and another DT or two. Overall, we filled our needs and picked up some talent for redshirting. This class is top 10 or near top 10.

  135. razorback roger razorback roger says:

    the thing I like about this class and previous Petrino classes is that we got length, weight and speed. These players are taller, faster and heavier. The thing that scares me is the size of pro players. All are big and fast…more and more I am less and less of a pro football fan because of this. Less finess, more ummm ….I guess the word I am looking for is collision power. Colleges no longer have room for talented smaller players. Am I making sense here?

  136. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    Time for a list of juniors now! No rest for recruiting.

  137. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    I think I understand a little bit more now about why Chris Barnett went North. I recently just subscribed to HawgsIllustrated, so I’m now able to click on links to articles I couldn’t before.
    I read an article on Chris’s commitment to Michigan yesterday and it looks like playing time had more to do with his decision that anything.
    He said “I didn’t come to sit on the bench and watch other guys play”, after noting that Michigan plays a lot of two TE sets and is currently thin at that position.
    He wouldn’t have had that luxury at the UofA, especially with Andrew Peterson signing yesterday before hand.

  138. mrprfct mrprfct says:

    We ran a lot of 2 TE sets too. He obviously was intimidated by Peterson.

  139. VantageHog VantageHog says:

    If you quantify a class by how many players get drafted or see starting PT in the NFL, I think this class will end up as one of the top 2 classes we’ve signed since the services started keeping track for the masses in ’02. Granted, this class would only have to have more than three to get drafted to top the best class we’ve had to this point (either 2004 – Hillis, J Anderson, & Luigs or 2005 – Jones & McFadden).

    I think the 2008 class will take the top spot before this class matures. I could see Mallet, Wilson, Childs, Adams, J Wright, & Stadther all getting drafted. But once this class matures I could see even more getting drafted if they reach their potential. I’m pretty sure we had 11 players that were all rated four stars at one time or another by one of the services: Wade, Allen, Thomas, Minor, Mitchel, Smothers, Cook, Fisher, Funderburk, Peterson, & Gosha. Combine that with the fact that said this is his best class since getting here and I think we’re justified in expecting that this class ends up one of the best ever.

    Here’s an excerpt from a scout article. Not that there was ever any doubt, but Austin Beck most definitely wants o be a Razorback.

    “O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU – Maybe Austin Beck could be a coverboy for the U.S. Postal Service. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night could keep the 6-foot-8, 300 pound offensive tackle from hopping on a tractor and heading through the inches of snow in his Nowata, Oklahoma hometown to find a fax machine and send in his letter-of-intent to Arkansas”

  151. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

    Coach,

    Thanks for straightening out that link. That list of offered Jrs. you posted above was great. Had no Idea we had offered that many already.

    Vantage,

    An ‘ol farm boy like Austin Beck driving a tractor to find a fax machine for his LOI. Now that’s classic. I love it.
