Small forward Antwan Space, 6-7, 203 of DeSoto, Tx. had a great official visit to Arkansas over the weekend.  He hopes to make a decision sometime this week. The Hogs are in very good shape.

Arizona DE/LB Brock Haman, 6-3, 230, 4.61 also had a very good official visit.  He may visit UCLA this weekend but nothing is certain at this time. He plans to visit Arizona and then make a decision.

New Jersey TE Jack Tabb said he may make an unofficial visit to Arkansas in the near future. His mother, Julie, who graduated from Lamar high school,  she wants to visit her family in Arkansas and he hopes to visit Fayetteville while they make that trip. He said the chances of Arkansas getting an official visit are “pretty high”.

Arkansas is evaluating DE/LB Edwin Hooper, 6-4, 219, 4.48 of Texarkana, Tx. He has 8 offers, including Kansas, Rice, Duke and Tulsa.

He plans to visit during Arkansas’ game against Alabama.

More on all four prospects in Tuesday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

  1. PK PK says:

for the upcoming year we have glenn bryant (soph), delvon johnson (sr), mike sanchez (IR until proves otherwise), powell (soph that might get tired of losing and turn pro), marvell waithe (JR).

Mickelson has the size but not the body/mindframe of a guy that dominates the post.

Ross is a good sized wing that should rebound well against smaller opponents.

Young is a good sized guard.

I remember reading that we’re gonna take 4 for the 2011 bball class.. So..

Would we take madden over the glaring needs of true interior player?

  2. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

I don’t believe it’s nearly as important as people have pointed out.
Sure, we need added size inside, but our needs all over the court were pretty glaring last season.
If the PG had distibuted the ball intelligently, rather than just continue to be “the man”, more players would have made an impact on the season.
Besides, we practically played without a true Center for most of last season, so really, how could it be that much worse than last season in the middle? Anyone can foul and cry about it.

  3. PK PK says:

i agree that we had troubles all over the court, and the 2010 guards plus ross and young will add much needed size on the perimeter.

Then again, i don’t know what coach pel has in mind for his ideal lineup. Would he rather play without a “true” center and just out guard/ wing the other team?

  4. Coach Coach says:

Pelphrey is looking for big men that can run like guards. A true center wont do that so the trade off if Forwards. Fast ones who can handle the ball in the open court.

  5. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

Right coach he wants to pressure the length of the court so he needs guys that are big but can move thier bodies up and down the court I think we will see more of CP type of game this year, sanchez will be fine for the inside banging he loves to do the dirty work adn delvin added about 15-20 lbs of muscle and the incoming class should help add depth so we can keep uptempo style for 40 mins. IMO we should be better this year than any of CP other years here, better chemistry and everyone is onboard, so I see us going to the big dance.

  6. RKV RKV says:

Sanchez and Farmer may have to earn their spot this year if some of the other recruits want to commit.

  7. Coach Coach says:

Farmer will graduate this year and Sanchez might not be able to last a whole season. Also Sanchez should have his degree after this year even though he will have another year of elegibility left. I think we might even take as many as 5 this year so Madden and the other power forward could both be added to this signing class.
Mickelson will continue to add weight in the next few months. We could be looking really good next year 8)
I think Pelphrey has turned the corner !

  8. Coach Coach says:

I think we still get Space and Madden :P :P :P

  9. RKV RKV says:

I wasn’t thinking about Farmer coming from JC but i think Pel would do what ever was necassary to get these kids on campus. This could be a once in a lifetime chance to assemble this kind of talent. If you look back Sutton only did it once and Nolan maybe twice. I hope its an every year thing from now on but history tells me its not.

  10. mudhog mudhog says:

So, if we get Madden before Space, do you think we’ll have enough space left for Space??? LOL!

  11. RKV RKV says:

    We’ll make space

  12. beasley beasley says:

hogsnout that’s great the buzz is having a contest and there is about 40 songs some are really good.

  13. RKV RKV says:

    Nice song
The big question for me is do the 4 3* recruits we have offered still have offers or has everything changed. I realize our coaches may rate these kids differently than the services but that makes it interesting.

  14. beasley beasley says:

The young men seem to be commiting earlier than they have in the past, I guess there are more guality player and its get in while there is a spot open.

  15. beasley beasley says:

Hooper Vint played for the wings get him to walk on redshirt him if you can do that, beef him up practice him with the bunch at 6′ 10” surely he could alter shot and rebound.

  16. RKV RKV says:

Maybe we can beat Boise for the NC. The way the big ten officials called their last drive I think they’re hoping Ohio State can play them so they will have a chance to win.

  17. hogen-dazs hogen-dazs says:

Neither V-Tech or Boise are Top 10 teams. Had V-Tech had any hint of a more sophisticated passing game they would have tore Boise up. But it’s remedial at best.

V-Tech spotted them way too much early with the turnovers. They made the stupid defensive play where they pretty much stacked the line on the 3rd and 1 and let the guy squirt through to give Boise the momentum back. They they throw the long bomb on 3rd down which stopped the clock late when they had to punt. Ridiculous. They could have run off a ton of more time on 4th down. Boise didn’t have any timeouts left.

I would hate to play Boise in the NC game because I don’t think they are worthy. I would hope to play Ohio St. or Ok or Texas so that if we do win it would mean something. If we beat Boise…all the other schools will just say they didn’t deserve to be there in the first place and downplay it. No respect.

  18. Coach Coach says:

We got to get there first.

  19. bigdaddyhog bigdaddyhog says:

Richard, I am very confused about our basketball commitments, who is commited, how many slots do we have open etc. Every site I visit shows we only have 3 commitments, Ross, Mickelson and Young.
What happened to Ricky Scott, Wade Mardacus, Waithe?
While the 3 above are not shown anywhere on the list of commitments when you google them individually they are showing as still commited to Arkansas (with exception of Waithe which I can no longer find anywhere). Can you straighten me out on this?

  20. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

    @bigdaddyhog

Ross, Mickelson and Young are commits for next year. The other guys you are asking about are already in school preparing for this season. Hope that helps.

  21. mrprfct mrprfct says:

Yea I totally lost all respect for Beamer and Foster.

  22. bigdaddyhog bigdaddyhog says:

Thanks RazorRandy. I should change my name to OLDbigdaddyhog. That would better eplain why I was confused.

    ===============================================
Hooper will be a good player, but he is not SEC caliber. IF CJP really has the same “system” (Pitino,Donovan etc) They use the long 6’7-6’10 run the floor types.

  24. ima hawg ima hawg says:

I think Madden may wind up at Ole Miss. Space is badly needed at Forward. If we get both, Pelphrey will have a very good team in two years. We also need Goodwin to jump on board. Looks like a Top 10 player and everybody is after him.

  25. PK PK says:

as far as boise vs va tech..

i just think that if you call that late hit (BS) on the va tech LB that set boise up at the 15 yd line you gotta call PI on the last throw by va tech. Wasn’t much there but definite contact/hand checking before the ball got there. Call one, call both.

Now every analyst will say, “Oh, look how good boise is and they have proven themselves beyond a shadow of a doubt…put them in the NC game.” I do NOT think playing 1 top 25 team (the first game of the year) qualifies a team to play for the crystal ball.

    was a good game though.

  26. Coach Coach says:

pk, Most of the experts I listened to said about Boise State:

What this win does is keep them in the conversation. It’s not a gimme.
Also they said Boise will need to beat their opponents by 30 every game to prove they are that much better than the conference they play in.

    It’s a long season …

  27. PK PK says:

good links coach and the fact that beating teams by 30 have a say in who participates in the NC game is ridiculous. A win is a win, but the level of competition is what makes all the difference, imo.

Yes, it is a long season though.

  28. bigboi bigboi says:

Thanks for the links coach! The panoramic view is awesome, I found my friends and I in a couple of min.

  29. RKV RKV says:

Shiloh knew the whipping they would take and did it for the money just like Tenn Tech. And as far as Boise having to win big that is only if you are having to move up the poll. All they have to do is hold on to the spot they have and let the other teams lose and fall back. They average 25 point favorites for their conf. games so they can just cruise along see what happens. If you look at AR’s stats against teams on the level of the WAC we looked unstoppable.

  30. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

I think utah state, oregon state, nevada and hawaii will give boise some trouble at least I hoping they do, they need to lose one of these games, but I dont like the fact that they do not play competitve teams week in and week out like the SEC, Big 12, Big 10 and even the PAC 10 beat up on each other, now maybe if they move conferences like to the Big 12, then they might be a legit team, they do have some nice players but a top 10 team I dont think so IMO. I think coach Bemer pulled a Les Miles with the play calling and the use of his time in the last two drives Va tech had, he did some uncharacteristic things last night. The defense is young for va tech and they grew up some last night but they had the game won and gave it away.

  31. PeytonHillis_FTW PeytonHillis_FTW says:

Jake Locker’s Heisman chances may have died over the weekend. Make room for Ryan Mallett!

  32. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

  33. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

Coach keep up the good work your recruiting efforts on face book are GREAT, lol, no really thanks for the info on wade that is good news, I think he will be a real good player for us in the future.

  34. RKV RKV says:

The crowd for Boise’s road games average 27,000.

    ================================
I respectfully disagree. A win is not just a win in this situation. If they squeek by every week in their weak conference the voters will say they’re not that much better than others in their our conference. And at the end of the season they will be passed by Power conference teams who blow away their competition.

  36. Coach Coach says:

    * Their own conference

  37. Coach Coach says:

You’re welcome guys. Glad I can help :)

  38. Coach Coach says:

    Thanks for the links RKV.

This weekend has some great matchups, at least on paper all over the country.

    Oregon @ Tenneessee
    Penn Sate @ Alabama
    Michigam @ Notre Dame

    and several others

  40. Coach Coach says:

Arkansas cornerback Seth Arumbrust will miss the remainder of the 2010 season with what the University of Arkansas says is a left knee injury suffered Saturday against Tennessee Tech.

  41. Coach Coach says:

Brock Haman said his visit this past weekend was Fantastic. I feel he will be a Hog by months end ! :P :P :P

  42. RKV RKV says:

We should be able to get some good film on GA and AL this weekend without having to show too much of our game plan.

  43. hawgwildinmi5 hawgwildinmi5 says:

Richard, What is your take on Dorial Green and his interest in Arkansas? Some believe he could be a top recruit when he comes out, Where do you think ranks in terms of class rankings for recivers next season? Glad to see the Hogs finally offer.

  44. Blu3tick blu3tick says:

One key play I thought for the Boise State game was that big run they had in the 4th I believe.. It was the last big score they had. Kirk was talking about how the RB shed 2 and 3 tackles but he didn’t point out that the kid was helped big time by huge hold….

  45. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

Herbstreet looks to have an agenda from what i’ve heard so far.
Boise has become the media darling over the last few years.
Everyone outside the SEC hates the SEC. They can’t wait to see them fall.

Boise is NOT a top ten team, much less a top 5 team.
They spend all spring and summer gearing up for teams like V.Tech and Oregon St., lay it all on the line for a couple of weeks, then take it easy for the rest of their schedule, basically playing high school team competition.
If they want to impress someone, they should trade schedules with Alabama. That would change everything.
In the end, they would be no better than Kentucky at best.

Like hogen-dazs said earlier, V. Tech isn’t a top caliber team either. Their defense isn’t very good, making Boise’s offense look a lot better than what they are.

The national media is hell bent this season on promoting teams like Ohio St, Boise St., Texas and OU for the title game.

  46. crs hogs crs hogs says:

can any one tell me what offense or defense john p runs anyway?? i cant tell if he even calls plays. rarely see them. his recruiting is getting better but can he do anything with it. we’ll have to wait and see. can anyone recall 1 play we ren as a mainstay.

  47. RKV RKV says:

The media want to force a play-off system and they know it won’t happen unless someone outside the big conferences steals a NC. They know if a Boise State or TCU steals one buy only having to win 1 big game that the big boys will want a play-off to keep it from happening again. Some coaches want the same thing and vote accordingly. The major media will push this agenda until they get what they want.

  48. RKV RKV says:

by only having to win 1. Spellcheck isn’t worth crap if you type the wrong word.

  49. PK PK says:

    coach,

i know that big point spreads are a major determining factor, i was just putting my take out there. My main point was that if Boise’s opponents consisted of multiple top 25 teams then winning should be enough. I.E. if an SEC/PAC-10/Big12/10 etc. simply wins all of their games (no matter the point differential) they will be in the NC. The fact that we debate who’s deserving by point spreads is ridiculous.

But i guess its just a bcs world and we’re all just bcs girls..

  50. RKV RKV says:

This is nothing different then what the independents have done for years except they have all (except ND) been forced to join conferences to get a schedule. Penn State, Fla State, ND and Miami played weak teams with 1 or 2 name teams thrown in and had great records and went to big bowl games and won NCs. If you check everyone of these teams records went way down and it took several years for them to compete in a conference they thought they would dominate. I seriously doubt if Penn State or Fla State were ever NC caliber teams.

  51. pochpunt pochpunt says:

From top to bottom the SEC is loaded esp. the west. Just don’t see anyone going undefeated in the league. Hope we do, but Mallett really needs help from the ground game. I give Boise credit, but in the SEC you don’t get weeks off.

    =============================================
You’re right about we live in a BCS world. If we aren’t in the hunt for the NC, I hope Boise State does win it all. Then as others have said, We will finally get a playoff. Hopefully not a plus 1 format either. Maybe a 12 team playoff with a first round bye for the top four seeds. Or an 8 team would only take 3 weeks to finish.

If Notre Dame finished and just missed the cut, I would be jumping for joy ! :P :P :P

Coach I agree with you for the most part, but as an example the Ole Miss-JS game. The one point win for JS was great, but what if JS had not got the 2 pts. and lost by one point. Would the one point win by Ole Miss. over JS been a great win. In my opinion no, it would have been a win, but in reality it was not a win to be proud of or looked at as one that would counted in a BCS run. jmo. thanks

  62. News Carver News Carver says:

The Ark-Tenn Tech replay is now available on ESPN3.com. I went through it pretty fast but I did see on at least a couple of occasions where it looked like Dominquez would block to the inside and then the linemen in front or to the outside of Dominquez would run right through the area vacated for a free shot at Mallet on the few times they brought pressure. Dominquez has been an overachiever in terms of the development of his physical skills after coming in as a two star recruit. In his senior year it looks to be mental errors that are still giving him trouble. Although blocking schemes can be deceiving to the casual fan, he looked to be to blame for more than his share of protection breakdowns. When he is in the right position, he seems to block very effectively, so maybe they can get most of that corrected.

RKV, those UConn allegations are way after the Nolan Richardson era.

AJ Green ruled ineligible for 4 gammes per Bo Matt.

  66. RKV RKV says:

The allegations go back to ’99 and I imagine have gone on for ever.

  67. spud spud says:

Wonder what AJ Green’s suspension will be after the appeal?

  68. RKV RKV says:

I don’t know how the process works but it would suck for him to play against us while they appeal and then serve his suspension later.

  69. spud spud says:

I also wonder what’s up with Zach Stadther. Coach P played a true freshman, Jeremiah Jackson, that could have been redshirted rather than put Zach in after Patrick Jones got injured. Somethings up. Zach played way too much and way too well to get passed over like that for no reason.

  70. RKV RKV says:

In one of his earlier comments BP said Zach’s conditioning was in question.

  71. tyler tyler says:

I don’t know how anyone could have watched the Boise St. -VT game and still doubt that Boise is an elite team. I mean, come on. I understand you may be bitter that they always have easier schedules than us and are media darlings, but seriously its a great story too. They’ve been building up from nothing, and year after year they prove they can topple top teams like Oklahoma, TCU, Oregon, and VT. Obviously, their schedule isn’t as consistently tough, but to win those games, they must have something. I root for Boise because I love their rags to riches story, and in my mind this latest win solidifies that their rise to prominence is not a facade and they can actually back it up. Also, it’s not like they would be a Kentucky-caliber team amongst SEC teams. Kentucky could not compete with Virginia Tech. I’d like to see how well Arkansas could compete (it would actually be a great game, I think). However, I wouldn’t mind this issue being settled with a National championship game against Boise State…

  72. mrprfct mrprfct says:

If Boise played an SEC schedule they would be an 8-9 win team if that. I’d like to see them play Alabama, then Georgia, then LSU, and Florida in a row. That would Show more than winning one big game a year. I wasn’t impressed with Boise. VT gave the game away. I haven’t seen an offense that unimaginative since Arkansas circa 2001. Run between the tackles, pass deep down the sideline or short to the sideline. VT’s defense wasn’t that good either, constantly out of position and absolutely no pass rush. The pass play on 3rd down was so stupid. Boise may be a good story, but an elite program they are not.

  73. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

I agree Mr. P I think if they had to play several top notch teams ina row they could not and would not be able to ahndle it they had all spring and summer to prepare for this one game then they get cupcakes the rest of the year, although I do think utah state, fresno state, hawaii, and oregon state will make some interesting situations for the darlings of the media. In any other BCS conference you only have a week to prep for a team yeah you have the same amount of time as Boise but the competition gets tougher as you go through a BCS conference week in and week out you have a nice level of competition for the most part

  74. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

Zach did look much bigger than he did last year, I hope he gets a chance to prove the coaches wrong and whips up on a few guys this year I think we need his experience in the middle, he has been a very steady player for us the past two years.

  75. GonzoHog gonzohogingreenwood says:

mrprfct hit this one right on the head. Saying Boise St. belongs in the top 5 of Div. 1 college football, is like saying Shiloh Christian belongs in the top 25 of high school football. There’s just no validity to it.

Stop and think about reality for a sec. Those so called top teams Boise beat over the past few seasons were all over-rated or were just having down years.
    VT #10? For real?

  76. hoggsfan hoggsfan says:

even herbstreet and musburger said that if they have a month to prepare they are good but what about week to week, with copmpetition every week I do no think they could hang.

  77. RKV RKV says:

A team returning 20 of 22 starters has a tremendous advantage over a team replacing half of their team in a first game situation Boise was able to hit the ground running and jump out to a 17 point lead before VT got a feel for the game. I’d like to see them play again at mid-season.

  78. Coach Coach says:

I think the Boise State, TCU and Utah’s of the CFB world are good for football. It gives us an opportunity to feel good about where we are today. Besides, who in this room didn’t love it when Boise St. beat Oklahoma? Also, TCU was a great story last year for all football fans. Now, if TCU could go and beat Texas ! That would be something to tell the grandkids ! :P :P :P Go Hogs ! ! !

  79. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

Coach, I hope that doesn’t happen. I’m dreaming of an ARKANSAS/texass National Championship Game. They don’t play this year anyway do they?

  80. Coach Coach says:

TCU vs Texas? No, it’s just a pipe dream. :P

  81. razorrandy RazorRandy says:

I’d rather US go beat texass and tell the grandkids and EVERYONE about it!
