Rashad “Ky” Madden of East Poinsett County has been making the transition from shooting guard to the point. He wooed many this spring and summer with his play at the point for the Arkansas Wings by leading his team to the 17-under AAU national championship in Orlando.

Madden, 6-5, 170 has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Baylor, Kentucky, Connecticut, Marquette, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Florida, Alabama and others. He averaged 19.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 58 percent from the field, 34 percent from beyond the three-point line and 78 percent from the free throw line last season

Hoopmasters.com national recruiting analyst Van Coleman has been scouting talent for more than 30 years and believes Madden progressing towards being an elite point guard.

“He’s big physical guard, who has combo skills currently” Coleman said. “I think as he matures and becomes more confident with both hands in the half court, I think then he can ascend to that level. I think now that most people would look at him as a two because he’s such a good scorer especially off the dribble and finishing at the rim.”

“I think his next step is going to be reading defenses and becoming a much more confident passer in a half court set up situation. Ninety percent of the game is played in the half court. I think as he develops that, he has that chance to make that move. That might be his future to play after college in the NBA.”

Coleman is equally as high on Sylvan Hills junior guard Archie Goodwin.

Goodwin, 6-4, 180 averaged 25 points 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals a game last year while shooting 39.6 percent from beyond the three-point line, about 57 percent from the field and about 78 percent from the free-throw line.

“He’s a young explosive kid that’s going to be highly sought after as his body fills out,” Coleman said. “I think he a chance to be considered for the McDonald’s All American game when that happens.”

Goodwin has about 16 offers from schools like Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Memphis, Tennessee, Baylor, Ole Miss and others.

I hope both of these young men end up in Razorback jerseys. We all love to cheer on the home grown kids.

Madden is a must as is Goodwin. One big man to go with this class would be really something special. It even would (probably) shut up Tim from Little Rock on this subject.

  7. Coach Coach says:

Goodwin is just a Jr. this year.
