After attending Arkansas’ junior/senior prospect camp in July, defensive end Barron Dixon placed the Razorbacks at the top of his list.

Dixon, 6-4, 260, 4.92, seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Alpharetta (Ga.) Chattahoochee has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Maryland, Illinois, Louisville, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Mississippi State while drawing interest from Georgia and others.

Shortly after visiting Fayetteville, Dixon toured Tennessee’s campus and now lists the Hogs and Volunteers even. Arkansas could have an advantage with safety Elton Ford, who attend Chattahoochee.

“I know wherever he ends up he’ll be a heck of a player,” said Chattahoochee Coach Terry Crowder, who graduated from Fort Smith Northside and Arkansas. “Coach (Bobby) Petrino has done such a good job with Elton and treated us so good so I know he would have a lot of success there.”

In Tuesday’s recruiting column, Crowder said Dixon has a chance to be a special player.

“He has a chance to become one of the best I’ve ever coached,” Crowder said. “He has great hips. When the lights come on Friday, he plays really well. We had Justin Smith, who’s playing at Ole Miss right now and was a heck of a player in high school. I honestly think Barron has a chance to be better.”

Dixon, who recorded 60 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble last year, reports a 315-pound bench press, 450 squat, a 4.43 pro-shuttle time of 4.43 and 33-inch vertical. While Dixon’s talent on the field is obvious, his character is on par with his physical tools.

“Around Chattahoochee, Barron is everyone’s favorite,” Crowder said. “He gets a long with everybody. All of the kids love him, the teachers like him. He’s just real out going…you meet Barron and he reminds me a lot of Elton. They’re just good natured kids.”

gotta think struggling TN and sky rocketing AR seasons, plus freshman getting quality PT on the DL bode well for our chances.

The quality of character is what jumps out at me here. Sure I love that he’s 6-4 and strong as an ox….but give me a hard working, good-natured kid over a primadonna any day of the week. Hope you choose us Barron! We WILL have a spot for you next year. We graduate 2 DEs this year and could lose Jake Bequette early if he decides to leave us for the NFL. Come here and you WILL play if you are good enough!!
