Receiver Jermaine Sams is one prospect to keep an on eye for a possible Arkansas offer.
Sams, 5-11, 182, 4.48 of Covington, (La.) The Saint Pauls School has scholarship offers from SMU and South Alabama while drawing interest from Arkansas, LSU and others, He recorded 29 catches for over 700 yards with 10 touchdowns and over 300 yards in kickoff returns and 1 touchdown last year.
“I averaged like over 30 yards per kickoff return,” Sams said. “I had the highest yards per catch in the state with over 25 yards per catch.”
Coaches are not only looking for ability in a skill player but also one that expresses the confidence he change the game with one play. Sams possesses that attitude.
“When the game is on the line, coach can always call on me for a big play,” said Sams, who reports a 37-inch vertical. “I like to do big things in open space when I get the ball and try to score when I get the ball because I know we’re a run oriented team so every time I get the ball in my hands I try to score.”
Sams said he and his dad enjoy defensive coordinator Willy Robinson’s straightforward approach to recruiting.
“He’s always honest with me,” Sams said. “He tells me he thinks I need to work on. We have a very open and honest relationship. I like that because he’s not going to sugarcoat anything and he’s going to tell me straight up and most coaches will lie to a prospect and I always feel like he honest and tells me everything I need to know.”
Sams, who was unable to attend Arkansas’ junior/senior prospect camp, said Robinson has given him reason to believe the Hogs could be close to offering him.
“He wished I could’ve gone to camp,” Sams said. “He said Coach (Bobby) Petrino was looking for me and the receiver coach was looking for me. When he came out for my spring practice, he was very impressed.”
He sees himself getting his fair share of receptions should he become a Razorback.’
“They’re wide open and I feel like I can get the ball a lot more in that offense versus any others.” Sams said. “I like how their receivers get about the same amount of catches. They spread the ball around.”
Sams said he and Robinson have talked about him taking an official visit to Arkansas after his season but he hopes to attend the Alabama or LSU game on a unofficial visit.

I tell my brother and nephew how important it is to attend camps. It really could be the difference between getting a scholarship offer or not.
Oh lord. Rodney is going to blow a gasket!!!! Another receiver!!!!!
While we all agree the defnse needs to improve, our offense’s inabilty to produce caused us to lose most of our games last year.
Can he play linebacker?
Was that a serious question?
I’m ok with recruiting lots of receivers b/c we very well could lose 3 starters after this year…BUT this is getting a little out of balance for me, unless we’re recruiting some of these guys for other positions. Maybe this guy can play corner. He’s got good corner size.
How many WRs do we have committed? 2, possibly 3. I believe we’ll
sign 4. I believe when we have enough WRs we’ll stop accepting commitments. You keep recruiting until signng day though.
Some of these guys won’t end up WR.
Nice video….honestly I can’t stand the rap music. He looks like a good return man but I wonder at what level of competition is the playing. Just food for thought.
This is only a thought, but could our coaches approach be to hit the O side early and often knowing they can more easily lock up early commits on that side of the ball and will then hammer the (more difficult)defensive side with everything they have leading up to signing day. I can’t help but think that that is their best way to go.
I’m sure they are working hard on the defensive players, but will unleash ALL their resources on those defensive studs we really need, once they lock up the offensive side. JMO
We haven’t offered this kid right? I don’t see anything wrong with showing interest in as many WR’s as we want if the offers aren’t there who says we will need them, we can’t afford to close any chances we have on a recuit until NSD. Of course every WR that is worth their salt wants to play in a passing offense.
We would be his first offer…woopee
I know it’s hard to believe this, but sometimes you offer a kid so you can get your foot in the door at a school. It might be that a particular school has some kids in the next class that you also want to recruit. The best way to do that is have a player from that school already on your roster and have the relationship with the high school coach already established. I’m not saying that’s the case with this kid, but it does happen.
Is anyone else concerned that his highlight tape says he is 6′, 200lbs. and runs a 4.43 while R.D. states it at 5’11″, 182 and runs a 4.48? His picture and his offer list look more like the 5’11″ version might be the most accurate
I like this kids video. Who is expected to fill D.Johnsons spot at KR? Not to mention the kid has enough wiggle to play WR. I say he is worth the offer. GHG!
Next Desmond Howard?
The OFFENCE that BP runs needs the best 6-8 Recievers that he can get on the team period. and we don’t have that many, each year some will leave and new one take their place. for those of us who love this offense, have no problem and understand 3-5 will be added each year. as will a QB or Two. and a couple of big Backs. What will be will be, and still we are moving up and up in the SEC
Who is the QB? Not bad and under center.
Nice video….honestly I can’t stand the rap music. He looks like a good return man but I wonder at what level of competition is the playing. Just food for thought.

Lil Wayne + Trae. Don’t know the name of the song but those two artists are good. Trae especially is capable of violent, explosive, southern lyrics.
