  8. buzzhog buzzhog says:

Scout has Roberson as a commit.

  9. bc bc says:

Rivals doesn’t show that Ark has even offered Roberson but Recruit map also has Ark as offering. Scout says
    Ht: 6-4 Wt: 220
2009: An All-State performer and the Class 2A Lineman of the Year as a Junior. Roberson was a big reason why the Reeltown Rebels won a state championship. Roberson made 152 tackles, 12 sacks, and picked off three passes in his first season playing linebacker.
Maybe we snagged a sleeper 25 minutes from Auburn. I’d love that.

  10. bc bc says:

ESPN show him as a verbal too. Rodney should like another LB recruit. I wonder if this is a guy who just hasn’t gone to the camps to get rated. Good size and stats.

  11. joeyb joeyb says:

I don’t care who’s offered him. All-State as a Junior and he’s 6-4 220? Let him get 12+ sacks again this year and see who’s all on him. I’m pretty sure we signed a guy in the last class that was 2A lineman of the year as a Junior and he was a “must get.” And you can bet that Alabama’s class 2A is probably more stacked than Arkansas’. This cat could be a monster if we can get him on campus.

  12. The_Real_JT The_Real_JT says:

Cmon Demarcus. Do the right thing.

  13. The_Real_JT The_Real_JT says:

Bama fans on tiger droppings say that class 2A is tiny and that the high school Shaq goes to is a complete dump. If the kid is just above average then he will dominate the opposition at this level.

  14. bc bc says:

I trust our coaches ability to evaluate and coach talent. I’ll sight Chris Smith as an example. He was a sleeper until he won the Defensive MVP at North Carolina’s All Start game and then everybody wanted him. I keep hearing that Mr. Smith is going to see playing time early.

  15. joeyb joeyb says:

Tiny and a complete dump but not similar to Junction City, AR?

  16. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

bc is right. Penn St. tried to jump on the action late in the recruiting process, but Chris Smith stayed firm with the Hogs.
Were getting in on better and better defensive players with every recruiting class. Personally, I don’t see what the big fuss is all about.

  17. Rodney Rodney says:

6-4 220 and 4.6 sounds good to me… I do wish we had a better Def Coor to develope the young man though.. The Rivals and Scout crap is way overated! Not unless YOU are Alabama, Florida, Ohio St, and USC.. Then your players go from 2 or 3* to 4 and 5*..? But I would like to see us start getting those guys.. WIN WIN WIN HOGS!

  18. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

We will be better on defense this year. Better than Auburn, Ole Miss and Miss. St. in the West, and better than SC, Kentucky and Vandi in the East, maybe even Tenn.

  19. Rodney Rodney says:

Yeah bc I do like us getting our 1st LB on the board.. Now just 2 more LBs atleast.. Anthony Wallace is our #1 LB must get! Also I like D Hodge being A RAZORBACK! The MORE D the Better!

  20. Rodney Rodney says:

Idk about SC Gonzo…? Ellis Johnson is OUR old #1 coach, O and he is a heck of a coach and SC has some D Studs. But I agree on those others.. I hope we are atleast 6th in the SEC in DEFENSE!

  21. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Ellis Johnson inherited a veteran defense when he left the Hogs for SC.
Willy Robinson inherited almost nothing. That’s why we started so many Freshmen that year. (2008)
The stats didn’t reveal it, but we were much improved on defense in ’09, compared to ’08.
If you look at the Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida games early on last season, we improved drastically over any game on the slate you can find in 2008. Basically, we sucked in 2008.
The reason for the dropoff later on in the season is because of depth.
If there is no depth, a defense will not sustain in this brutal league.
The main reason for our lack of depth wasn’t talent, but mostly guys who weren’t ready to contribute. (example) Terrell Williams in the Georgia game was completely lost as a True Freshmen, but the coaches had no one else to play at the time. That’s just the way it was.
This year will be much different. Maybe not in a dominant way, but much different.

  22. Beasley Beasley says:

Rivals and Scout has Shaquille Roberson comitted to Arkansas.

  23. Ron in Germany Ron in Germany says:

I think Richard is waiting for the “Official” word before post him as a commit. Writers tend to look uninformed when the have to back up. :P

  24. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I don’t care how talented you are at anything. No one should make that much money, while we have people right here in our very own country starving to death. Redicules.

This is just ridiculous. I too have mostly lost interest for pro sports for this reason. It really pisses me off that we have young men & women protecting our country and being killed for it while their families do without here in our own country but someone that can throw a football or baseball makes in a day what they make in a year + some. It’s just wrong and is just another sign of why our culture and country is in the shape it’s in. I for one am sick of it and am offended. I fully understand it’s a business and they should be compensated for their athletic skills and work but it’s gotten out of hand.

  32. Ron in Germany Ron in Germany says:

There is only one way to put a stop to this madness. Stop supporting the pro sports teams alltogether. Don’t go, don’t buy, don’t watch. Money talks ! ! !

I personally don’t, but do any of you go to movies? Sometimes, $20 mil per or more for the lead actors. That means you support that.

I like my baseball. Salaries are crazy. I can’t bitch though, because I watch it and therefore help supply the $ for it.

It is odd that no one is bitching about the owners that are making the business decision that it is a good thing for them to pay these types of salaries. Think about it. Who is really making the $ on these deals?

It’s not just in the states. Take a look at the premier soccer league salaries in England. Basketball salaries in Spain and even here in Germany. The whole pro sports world is out of control.

By the time Alex Rodriguez is finished he will have made over 1/2 a Billion dollars in salary alone, not including endorsements. The Billion with a “B” people !

The average fan cannot even afford tickets to go see these (overpaid) athletes.

Ron that was some weak stuff about CBP. They used basically the same event for their last two points. Who has not made a decision that they regretted. CPB will keep making lists like this for a while. At Ark he has been nothing but a class act. I kind of hope he keeps showing up on lists like this. Maybe he will think he has something to prove and stay at Ark longer.

  45. Daniel M. Daniel M. says:

Not that I don’t absolutely love the fact that the Titans are suing Kiffin, but why did Louisville not sue Atlanta for “luring Petrino to break his contract?”

I’ll never forget the Falcon’s DB “his name escapes me” who ripped Petrino citing the “team-concept” of football. Yup, this guy was a real authority of the team-concept having skippped out of all voluntary and involuntary workouts, mini-camps, and practices since he wanted more money. Yup, a real team player.

  46. bc bc says:

Rodney I agree that Wallace and Hodge would be great pickups. With them in a year or two we could be looking good in the middle of our D. Roberson has some real impressive stats 2A or not. Seems if I was an opposing coach it would be hard not to notice one player on a 2A team playing like that and avoid him. Either he is a good player or all the coaches he played against were sleeping.
Ellis Johnson took SC from a terrible defense to a good one in a year. I don’t see how we will be better than them this year. I think we will be better. The coaching staff has said a lot about individual D Line players improving in the spring and summer. Someone one commented about freshmen QBs running all over or defense in the spring game. The first half was low scoring as I remember and the O had a hard time moving the ball. That could be showing us signs of improvement. I’m hoping make that praying that moving Crim to safety stops two-thirds of the long plays we gave up last year.
Drive time was talking about us giving up 18 plays of 20 yards or more last year that ended in a score. If we could even knock that down to half that and keep our red zone defense and turnover ratio from last year we could be much improved. I think drive time said if you took those plays out it dropped our yards per game by almost 60. That may be all it takes to move our defense up to the middle of the pack in the SEC.

A lethal aerial assault lead by All-American Heisman Candidate QB Ryan Mallett will be complimented by the #1 ranked receiving corps in the entire nation consisting of Childs, Wright, Adams, and Hamilton. Then toss in All-American Tight End Williams. Can you say “WOW” boys and girls?

The running game that includes the hard nose backfield quartet of Johnson, Green, Wingo and Davis are expected to blow up this fall.

The special teams received a badly needed shot in the arm with the recruitment of a booming punter and kickoff man in Hocker. The addition of Camara could provide the field goal unit with the consistency it so desperately needs.

Now comes the defense lead by All SEC DE Bequette, but make no mistake, this defense will be different. Gone are the days of undersized, undermanned, and under confident men on the field. In comes a new era for Razorback defense. It is big, lean and fast and with 2 to 3 years of experience in each position going 2 deep. This defense will step up to the challenge of getting off the field to let the offense “Light it up”

Razorback fans have longed for the day when we took the field and expected to win. Our time has come so “Get Ready”

You guys sound like those clowns in Washington.
It is called capitalism – If you don’t like it go somewhere else. There are millions climbing over that wall to get a shot at it!

  50. bc bc says:

oldhog, Remember the housing bubble. Over priced over valued realestate that then went bust. We are in the midst of a pro-athlete bubble. Over priced over valued. I think it is more a sign of our culture shift than capitalism. Athletes have not always been so over valued.

  51. jamhog jamhog says:

Guys, which do you think is fairer. A CEO making millions off of your hard work and paying you just enough to keep you on the job; Or the ath getting paid market value even it it is millions. Also, nice articule Ron.

  52. HawkHog HawkHog says:

Guys, the NBA is starting to show signs 0f overpayment to its stars. Baseball is not so far behind. Both have priced themselves out so far as the average fan going to the games with his family. NFL is still thriving, but for how long? The average fan cannot spend more than his weekly salary to take a family to a game. TV is starting to pull back; look out!

  53. MooMoo MooMoo says:

So, Archie can now play with the U-17 wings because his U-16 team lost?

  54. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

They don’t believe in God, just more money.

  55. Hog on the Hill Hog on the Hill says:

Athletes wouldn’t be getting paid so much if there wasn’t consumer demand for professional sporting events. In the United States, we have a great deal of disposable income thanks to our great wealth, and so a lot of that money goes towards entertainment. When the Super Bowl is the most watched TV event, tickets sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars, and advertisement time is sold for millions of dollars, then of course you’re going to be paying the athletes that make all of that possible very large salaries. And of course they deserve it… these guys literally sacrifice their bodies for their jobs. It’s a game, but it’s a hard and punishing game.

Anyway, it all boils down to supply and demand. There aren’t many professional-caliber athletes, but there are lots of people who want to watch those athletes play their sport. That means lots of $$ for those few athletes.

  56. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

    Hey guys,
If we could get the discussion back on the topic of recruiting for a bit…I’m really impressed with Horton, Petrino and staff and their obvious initiative. Seems like they understand exactly what kind of player they want, and they go after them, regardless of whether or not we think they have enough stars, other offers, etc.
However, I am concerned a bit by a couple of things:
    - the lack of stars and other offers these commits are receiving (I know I just contradicted myself from the earlier statement)
    - and still the lack of defensive linemen and linebackers

We’ve only got what, 10-12 more spots? Are we going to give the rest of them to defense? And, again, I’m not so worried about stars, but you know people will gripe come Signing Day if we’re not in the top 25 again. And, let’s be honest, I’m sure Florida and Alabama coaches dont’ necessarily pay attention to stars either, but they only seem to get four or five star recruits. See a difference?
    Just some thoughts….

Matt 20:15 “Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?” The words of Jesus when he tells about workers grumbling about their pay when they got what they agreed to work for and the workers who only worked an hour got the same amount. Very powerful thought.

This year the defense will move faster, hit harder and cover better. We now have depth that was sorely missing the past two years. Our team now knows the Petrino system. We WILL win the SEC West and possibly the whole enchillada. This is my opinion, now everybody else…FALL IN LINE :)

Oh, and oldhog. Thanks for the advice about if you don’t like how your country is being run you can just leave it. The old Ron Kovic mindless sound bite. That would be great advice if this were a dictatorship. But since it is a democracy and the middle class is beginning to educate itself with the advent of computers, internet, etc. and are starting to vote in line with their own economic self interest instead of being manipulated by the rich and powerful, I think we will just stay here and change it into what we want. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?

  81. nate nate says:

just saw on CBSC while watching LSU vs Ole miss that Roberson committed to Ark.

  82. BackwaterHog BackwaterHog says:

Right there with ya Roger. There are just so many things falling into place; coaching stability, 3 years in the same system, so much experience returning, best talent at the most important position, great skill players, more depth on defense with JUCO and freshmen secondary knowing the system better now, everyone is healthy (need to stay lucky here of course).

I keep thinking our thinest area is DE and maybe LB but that depends on how the non-contributors from last year have improved to be able to contribute this year, i.e. Colton Nash, Caleb Evans, Austin Moss, Jermaine Love. Practice will be interesting because we will start to see some answers to these questions.

  83. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

  84. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

    Matthew 22:15-22 NIV

15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?”

     21″Caesar’s,” they replied.
Then he said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

  97. BackwaterHog BackwaterHog says:

That’s weird. Mrp responded to a post of mine that I can’t see in the thread anymore?

Anyway, Mrp, you need to read people’s post a couple of times before responding as you are constantly mis-representing blogger comments and then arguing against your mis-representation.
I never said I was upset at rich people so why do you lie on this blog saying that I did? I don’t feel picked on because you do it to others as well.
I said that the middle class needs to educate itself to act and vote in their own economic self interest, like educated powerful rich people have been doing for decades. And that I felt encouraged that they were starting to do just that.
One example and then like Gonzo, oldhog and Ron, I’ll get off this subject as it doesn’t really belong here.
The most relavent tax rate of the wealthy is the long term captial gains rate. Guess what the rate is Mrp. It’s 15%.
Do you know what the tax rate is for the middle class after 30 something thousand in income is? It’s 28%. Then throw on payroll taxes that come right off the top and you are at 36%.
Who do you think has had the most influence on determining tax rates, the middle class or the wealthy and powerful?
You bring a lot of good info to this blog on the hogs, but you are concentrating too heavily on slamming other bloggers. Let’s discuss and disagree, but let’s do it with respect and not comments like “you’ve lost all credibility”. That’s not right.

  98. BackwaterHog BackwaterHog says:

Relate to story above on Les Miles – Glenn Gilbeau, the LSU version of Wally Wall has been a Miles apologist the last couple years up until a couple of weeks ago. Interesting is that living in LA and just by chance of work association I hear this story that the regents or board or whatever they call themselves that decide the coach’s fate there, supposedly had a meeting with Miles and said he needed to be 8-5 minimum this year or out you go. Then 1 week from hearing that we get the Glen Gilbeau article hitting the news stand blatantly attempting to turn the tide of public opinion against Miles. Conspiracy theory I guess on how these folks control the media in an attempt to hedge their bets in case Miles doesn’t make it to eight.

My last political shot then it is all football for me.
I think it is presumptuous for the President of the United States to think he should should decide how much a person should make; much less, for someone on this blog. The owners of NFL teams can decide how much they want to invest in a player and the players can work or not work for that amount. If someone is not happy with how much they make, they are free to go some where else if they think they are worth more. It is not anyone else’s fault if they don’t make what they think they should. Success come at the intersection of opportunity and preparation, but most people don’t get there because it comes disguised has HARDWORK!

  126. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Politics shouldn’t govern as much as they do, I agree. The problems with our system is not that of one person or even just a few.
It all started out of greed a very long time ago.
Knowone seems to know where the cutoff is for greed, so now we are forced to try and make up for it’s undoing of our nation with something that resembles socialism.

It doesn’t matter if it’s called capitolism, socialism, communism or facsism. None of them have proven to work for everyone, even the ones who have worked hard every single day of their lives in this country.

  129. HOGen-Dazs HOGen-Dazs says:

Socialism has some decent ideas but the problem is that so many think that those FEW ideas justify a total rebuilding of a society based on those ideas.

The U.S. became the strongest and richest country in the world due to capitalism. Some may call it greed…so be it. It’s our free country that allow us to prosper as much as we want. In fact it’s a unique concept it seems nowadays in this world where you can still work hard, get educated, and prosper as long as your willing to have the will power to due so and the endurance to wait it out. Some prosperity comes faster for some than others. But it’s what made our country strong.

The U.S. has actually been utilizing and adopted socialism for certain aspects that capitalism has passed by. For example…Medicaid, although state run, is a prime example of the rich giving to the poor. Our working tax dollars help the poor with healthcare they can’t afford (see we already have a form of socialized medicine). Medicare is also a forced tax to not just help the privileged when they get older with healthcare but EVERYONE reguardless of your class and order. Again a socialist concept.

And these things have helped our poor and our society and they are good things.

However a total socialistic society does not a prosperous and strong country make. If entitlements are givin routinely and openly then it will cause economic strife…will prevent people on the bubble from wanting to prosper…and bankrupt the country to where these same entitlements will end up having to be taken away in the long run.

Thus if far left radicals keep pushing for these socialist values we are doomed.

There’s an old saying. “How can you take care of others if you can’t take care of yourself”. There’s a lot of truth to this. It’s like having credit cards and maxing them out. This is an entitlement society. You just keep spending and keep spending and yeah you might do some good with that money. However there will come a time when the money runs out, you’re in huge debt, and you can’t even keep the electricity and the water on anymore. Then you can’t help anyone else anymore. That’s where we are headed.

On the flip side. If you let the country prosper…which is what capitalism is designed to do. Get ourselves back on track and out of debt. Then we will have funds to help the socialistic policies that many people want…in moderation. And I’m not saying there doesn’t need to be oversight on certain aspects of capitalism due to corruption…because there definitely should be.

But entitlements and socialism can’t be the basis for your economic policies. It just can’t.

Wow!! Talk about a rant!! I love me some ME!!

Now I want to hear it from all sides. The ones who disagree with me and the ones that don’t want politics on the board. That’s right!! I want to tick off EVERYONE!! YIPPEE!!

How about our ever-declining Social Security we put money into on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to actually get something out of retirement when I’m what, freakin 67 years of age? Who does this help?
Oh yeah, I forgot, we now have 401Ks to rely on with our all-empowering stock market, correct?. Now that’s REAL stability for the true working man, created by non other than our very own Capitolistic concepts.

Both of are conservative rednecks or else you would know our government is already socialist. We’ve had socialism in America far before Obama. 134. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Better look up that definition. I don’t think these are socialism. These things are a social benefit, but they are not socialism.
