Texas receiver Christian Jones plans to checkout Arkansas this weekend and possibly see his teammate from a year ago, Arkansas quarterback Jacoby Walker.
“He told me it was a great place,” Jones said. “My coaches were talking about how he likes it down there.”
Jones, 6-3, 198, 4.5 of Spring (Tex.) Westfield has about 12 offers, including Arkansas, Stanford, Rice, Northwestern, Houston, Kansas, and Texas Tech.
“I’m looking forward to getting down there to Fayetteville and checking it out myself,” Jones said. “I’ve heard a lot about it. My head coach has said great things about it. I’m very interested and can’t wait to see what its like.”
As a junior, Jones recorded 35 receptions for 702 yards and 11 touchdowns and was looking forward to s stellar senior season but suffered a setback when he suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury during practice nine weeks ago.
Two weeks later, Dr. Walter R. Lowe, who’s the team physician for the Houston Texans, performed the surgery. He slated to be back on the field sometime in October.
Jones, who reports a 3.7 grade point average, said the injury has him interested in becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
“It would give me a chance to be around my sport even when I’m done.” He said.
Defensive end coach Steve Caldwell is recruiting Jones and has found a good balance when trying to convince him to be a Razorback.
“He’s great guy, very nice man,” Jones said “He sells the school but he doesn’t come off like all of the other coaches. He doesn’t sell it too much or too strongly. He lets you know about the school and the important things and what you’re interested in the school.”
Jones uses his size to his advantage and doesn’t mind helping in the running game.
“I would say my best assets are my height and my ability to go up and get the ball,” Jones said. “I do whatever I can to make a play. I do whatever is necessary and I don’t shy away from blocking.”
Jones, who has visited Texas Tech, Houston, Texas A&M, Rice and Stanford, said his school runs a pro-style offense very similar to Arkansas’.
The player-coach relationship and academics will prove pivotal in Jones’ decision.
“I want to know if there is anything wrong that you can go to the coaches about the problem.” He said.

I believe recruiting is why we had the coaching changes. Clearly, Coach K and Coach Caldwell are better recruiters than the guys they replaced.
Definitely an upgrade in that category. Our O-Line looks really good and our D-Line is looking pretty good too. Last year’s D-Line haul wasn’t bad though. Rivals had it ranked pretty high.
I know Coach K is the O-Line coach, but the other players he recruits in his territories are just raving about him as well.
I wonder why no one raves about Willy Robinson?
Players like him or they wouldn’t come to play for him. I think he is more business than social.
Yeah I have heard a lot of the kids he is recruiting say he is cool and they enjoy their talks with him..
He so did anyone read the Scout article about the reasons why the IFs can be taken out of our defense this year? It has been up most of this week and I am just wondering what the writers points are…
Hey so**
Blake, I tried but I dont have a scout account
