I had the opportunity to ask Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino several questions regarding recruiting and his answers appeared in today’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He was kind of enough to answer a few more personal questions.
Favorite guilty pleasure: Chocolate
Favorite music: Western
Favorite vacation spot: I like any lake
Play any video games: No
Favorite color: Red
What do you drive: A pickup truck
First car: Opel cadet
Best Father Day present: Just being with my family
Favorite meal: Steak and eggs
Last book you’re read: Deliver Us From Evil by David Baldacci (currently reading)
I do a lot in the profession. Leadership, motivation and those type of things. Particularly when recruiting starts to try and read two books of pleasure a month to use up some of that air plane time.
Morning or night time person: Night
Pets: Two dogs and cat
Names: Champ because we were looking for a championship when we got him. Star, because in order to win a championship you have to have a star. Cat’s name is Ace.
Favorite thing about Arkansas: The people
Best round of golf: 73 at Fayetteville Country Club. I actually did it a couple of weeks ago. I went out with my daughter. I haven’t beaten my daughter in the three or four years. We finished the front nine and I was playing pretty good. I wasn’t thinking a lot about golf, that’s probably way I played pretty good. At the end I said “what did I shoot? And I shot two strokes better than her and I said “we’re done. I quit, over. I’m going to go post it on the internet.” So she made me play the back nine but I still beat her.

Anyone who drives a red P/U truck, listens to western music and likes the water has got to be a good fellow. Now let’s win the SEC West coach. WPS…….
Western? Would that be Roy & Dale, Gene Autry, Chuck Wagon Gang? LOL!!
Yea I like CBP
I like CBP, and I think he likes our great state. I think we as Arkansans have a unique and special place and it is great to be able to call Arkansas home.
I’m a big Bobby Petrino fan.
Doesn’t he just bring a smile to your face?
He likes Arkansas because it reminds him of his home state Montana (IMO). I am from Arkansas, but lived in Montana for a year and they are pretty similiar (except for the winter’s). Very pretty land and down home people. But yea, Coach is cool.
I love the direction BP has Arkanasas headed in. Our national recruiting is really starting to pick up under BP. I also like the coach K hire, he really seems to know how to recruit out of state good talent. I like Tim Horton dont get me wrong, but Ive been hearing alot more recruits bringing up coach K as of lately. Just my opinion so please dont try to spin what I say into something I havent.
Mr. P, I to am a huge BP fan and when the guys I work with told me about the hire I was ecstatic (partly cause Michigan IMO took a step back with there hire). He took less money for this job and that tells you how highly he thinks of this program and where he can take it. It tells me alot about the mans real character and not what ESPN, Blank and the rest of the Falcon org. wanted us to think!
western music? does that mean like the soundtracks from the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns? I hope so, because those kick azz.
haha just got back from looking up what an Opel Cadet looks like.
and Mr P, glad to hear that you are a Petrino fan. It would sound more genuine however if you stopped dragging up Nutt and comparing the two.
The king is dead, long live the king!
Coach K does seem to be an upgrade in the recruiting dept from an Arkansas assistant coach. We will find out on signing day.
Anyone reading this interview with Bobby Petrino should realize that there is a strong possibility that Coach Petrino will stay with Arkansas for several years…I hope for at least ten. Arkansas is a good fit for all he likes and wants.
Let’s be grateful for him, stay behind him and the team, and try to minimize the few nattering nabobs of negativism we have…and every school has.
Thanks Coach Petrino and staff for the great job that you are doing.
Peyton, I don’t see Mr P “dragging up Nutt” in this particular post. You are the first to mention the Nutt name. Read above postings.
does it have to be this particular post? it happens frequently enough.
I believe that BP will be the HC of the HOGS until he retires if the program continues to build and we can reach the top level of the SEC. I believe that AR people are his kind of people and he is confortable here.
I think the addition of Coach K and Coach Caldwell have add two quality recruits and game coaches. I do hate that we lost Paul Petrino and his personality, but he had to move on out from under his brother to make it to be a HC someday (SOON).
GO HOGS!
TNHog, staying till retirement is extremely rare under any program, and I don’t expect it for our program either, but I do see him staying a few years, because he continues to make measurable improvements every year.
And Jeff Long has given him the keys to the program and has let him have everything he needs and wants. I believe there are also some plans in the works to upgrade Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Jeff Long is good for our football program.
Pertino has stated in the past he would like to coach at Arkansas until he retires.
There have been talks to upgrade the locker rooms. On game day they cannot get all the players in one room.
coach petrino is welcome on the hill till the end of his career imo. Nothing but good things come from hard work, discipline, and taking the time to enjoy the simple things in life (sitting on a lake, eating steak and eggs)
Yeah I’d like to see a locker room upgrade and maybe some more money chairs…
I do also like CBP… His personality, his style of play, and the way he coaches is my kind of football…
Go Hogs Win the West!
Coach Petrino will get his NC here at ARKANSAS! He is putting everything in place. It’s just a matter of time, and time could be NOW. GO HOGS!
Everybody hear about Chad Jones being in a serious car accident? Broke his leg and more. Said it took them 20 minutes to get him out of the car.
I think that BP will be at Arkansas as long as he feels that he has the ability to recruit players that can win a NC. The only way that I can see that BP would leave is if he ever decides that he cannot recruit the kind of talent on a regular basis that Alabama, Florida and Texas get each year. The best thing to guarantee that BP will be here a long time is for the Hogs to win the SEC title this fall or at least get into a BCS bowl. If that happens, BP will know that he can recruit the talent at Arkansas to compete with anyone.

okay, interview
Notice he says his favorite thing about Arkansas is the people.
Not his salary, his team, his stadium, his weight room, or program.
Hmm….makes you think? If Michigan offers him after this season, he is gone.
Either that or we’ll have to pay him 3-3.5+ million dollars a year.
I really like Petrino. He will be here for a very long time.
i like his dogs’ names. He’s a winner
I heard he likes both kinds of music…Country AND Western!!
BP is a class act and a great fit for Arkansas. Unlike some other coaches we have had, and I don’t just mean the last one, He never complains about our limited in-state talent, he knows he has to work harder than at some other places and he does. He always says if we can get them on campus we have as good a chance as anybody. This attitude is what is needed to succeed here. I expect and hope he stays here a long time and I am looking forward to much success.

Almost forgot the link for ya Ron
A lot of people only need an excuse to fail. Our recruiting base has been used too many times. As BP is starting to prove, nobody said you can’t expand your base.
The following was my response to MRPRFCT yesterday when he said BP needed to win 10 games this year to be better than HDN.
All of these are my opinion.
Let me count the ways.
Better offensive coach – BP
Better recruiter – BP
Better at conditioning the players – BP
Better discipline – BP
Better organizer – BP
Better Rah Rah man – HDN
I think by the time BP leaves Arkansas he will have a better winning % than Ken Hatfield.

One more thing – Ithink BP will be at Arkansas a long time or I would not have said he would have a better winning % than KH. I may be wrong but I think KH is the king of Arkansas coaches.
Did anyone hear Dudley say today that Scottie Thurnman (MIGHT) be joining the coaching staff at Arkansas BBall program, he would be a good addition.
I think Bobby Petrino will be in Fayetteville for many years to come. He has one of the very few programs with a unique, undivided, loyal, statewide fan base – and rabid fans at that
Facilities which can be favorably compared to any other place in college football [though will need to be maintained in order to stay that way]. A chance to really coach and positively influence young men at an important time in their lives. The opportunity to eventually bring home a national title, if not more. A very handsome salary and compensation package. And finally, the NW Arkansas area. Live elsewhere or move away and you quickly realize just how special the area and people living there happen to be.
Guys, EPICWIN sounds like an Aubarn fan. You can find salaries, weight rooms, stadiums, etc, anywhere. You can’t find Arkansas fans just anywhere.
BP knows from his failed experience with the Atlanta Falcons and that messed up situation with Arthur Blank and certain prima donna players that the PEOPLE, (not the salary, not the stadium, not the uniforms,) are the most important components of success.
When you have people in your organization that are not buying into your formula for success, your efforts will be sabotaged from the beginning.
But with a few good men – much can be accomplished.
By the way, Bo was mentioning today that Petrino is upset about the timing of Arkansas spring football — says it makes us less competitive in recruiting.
Thanks for the link HOGen-Dazs. When someone is refering to something it just saves time. Someone asked what an Article said on Rivals and I spent 10 minutes looking for that article.

=============================
Hatfield does own the highest winning % at Arkansas. I hope Coach Petrino does beat it because he will need to be here at least 5 more years to get there.
alright lets go USA beat ghana 3-1, just a prediction, was just watching the national track championship and I am really dissapointed with our year in track, not a very good outcome I am thinking we need to go grab one of the Oregon assistants, and maybe get some fresh views and get back to our winning ways of national championships.
Now on to the next thing; K-MAC WE WANT U TO B A HOG run thru the A Hear a crowd of fanatic fans calling the hogs I hope the catfish hole treated him like royalty last night, but I am sure they did call the hogs at least once, and the food is always good.
K-Mac, Thanks for taking the unofficial visit to see our great Razorback country.
Really looking forward to you Offical visit this fall. Once again. Thanks for giving us a look !
USA is trailing 0-1 to Ghana. Let’s pick it up Guys ! ! !
67th minute USA Scores !!! Score tied 1-1
We lost. That sucks. But hey !!! We have football (Made in America)
I hate the fact since he left the falcons to come to ark espn is giving him negative comments all the time. recruits hear this and it hurts the hogs recruiting. he added top assistant coaches to staff who have showed that ark can go to 5* recruits to show our program. but also he knows talent and dont use the star system to recruit all his players like nolan did in basketball select players for his system. but also he knows that sec football teams must have d linemen and coach caldwell is after top d linemen. I know IF the hogs defense shows decent improvement this season we will be in contention for the west because our offense will improve again and no we wont have to score 50 to win every game. we r going in the right direction. he recruited offense to gain interest in the program and build from what he is known for and now he has the coaches to build the defense for a NATIONAL CHAPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t believe we’re capable of winning a NC right now, but I do believe the 2012 or ’13 season could be the year we’re in contention.
