Crossett RB has speed in spades

Running back Orlando Robinson of Crossett is not only one of the best 2012 football prospects in the state, but the fastest, too.

Robinson, 6-0, 175, 4.45 recorded a best of 10.63 laser time this spring and won the 100 meter dash in 10.95 seconds and placed second in the 200 with a 21.94 at the Meet of Champions May 8.

“I worked hard in track,” said Robinson, who ran a blazing 4.38 handheld and 4.45 laser times in the 40-yard dash at a recent Ole Miss Camp. “I didn’t want to lose. I had in my mind that I wasn’t going to lose. I knew I had to keep working hard to be on top.”

Despite running behind an offensive line that started four sophomores, Robinson rushed 99 times for 665 yards and 8 touchdowns last year. His talent has been noticed by Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kansas and Nebraska.

“All of it is God-given talent.” Robinson said.

Robinson, who reports a 235 bench press and 405 squat, shows the natural instincts many running backs lack when touting the ball.

“I’m patient until my line makes their blocks,” Robinson said. When I see the hole I speed up. I go from zero to sixty and make the right cuts. You have to be patient but speed kills. If my linemen do their jobs then I have to do the rest and break out.”

The in-state Hogs appear to be tough to beat for Robinson’s signature should the Razorbacks offer a scholarship.

“I like Arkansas because they like tall running backs like McFadden,” Robinson said.” I want to go to Arkansas because I live down here and I want to represent Arkansas. I’ve liked the Arkansas Razorbacks. They’re one of my favorite college teams.”

At 175, Robinson knows he needs to gain weight and strength to play running back in college.

“I have to get bigger to stay at running back,” Robinson said “When I get to the next level I might be playing wide receiver. I have two more years to work hard and get bigger so I’ll probably stay at running back.”

He is already over 6l and only a Sophmore?!?!? The #1 rated RB’s in the country only outweigh him by 5-10lbs so its safe to say he will be recruited at that position. Unless it becomes appearent he is so much more talented at another position.
