question: when announcer says player grounded in double play 6,5,3,etc… what do those number mean?
Ouch !
1=Pitcher, 2=Catcher, 3=1st, 4=2nd, 5=3rd, 6=Short
7=Left, 8=Center. 9=Right
each position on defense is assigned a number. A 6 is the 2nd baseman. A 5 is the the 3rd baseman. A 3 is the 1st baseman.

Most DP’s are obviously 6 to 4 to 3, or 4 to 6 to 3, with 5 to 4 to 3 the next most common.

Couple of days ago there was the 1st triple play on record in the Majors that went 8 to 2 to 4 to 3. You had to see it to understand what the hell happened.
