  1. RKV RKV says:

If the 2 Memphis kids were to commit Madden could be left without a spot available.

  2. RKV RKV says:

If this were to happen this would be one of the best classes in Razorback history but there would still be people on this board calling for Pel’s head for not getting Madden.

  3. Grant Grant says:

Richard….Do you think Kissinger, or Shearin, will eventually be offered? I know we’re in on some very good LB’s this year (Hankins, Wallace, McNair etc.) but I’d like to see atleast 1 of them offered especially with our lack of depth at LB.

I doubt another in-state prospect gets an offer unless they show well at one of Arkansas’ camps. I’m not saying it won’t happen before camp but unlikely.

  5. DH DH says:

Can you add a “You’re kidding, right?” answer to the poll question?

  6. not me RKV. Madden is someone that is likely to only add to Pelphrey’s high turnover ratio.

  7. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

of the two memphis kids you mentioned, thomas is 2011, mcafee is 2012 i think. think mcafee offer is just as much bait to get thomas here as anything.

  8. Russellvilleboi Russellvilleboi says:

i know mcafee is good but he is also bait

  9. First Kadeem Jack says he will go to prep school, then this… the guy is all over the place, must have the Brett Farve decisiveness gene.

    http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/may/09/new-york-prep-star-may-go-to-unc/sports/

  10. I can never get enough of watching Kelvin Fisher’s highlights and those long strides.

  11. RKV RKV says:

His ” mentor ” sounds a little shady and may be why he is having trouble making up his mind. He’s not the answer for next year and maybe not later either.

  12. No, Ricardo Ratliffe would have been a more important get than Kadeem Jack. But either one would have been better than nothing.

  13. beasley beasley says:

well with 2 sclalorships left and only 1 if he adds another big guy this year it may be first come first serve next year, or somone has to go.

  14. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I think we get Rashard Madden next. I’ve always thought Hunter Mickelson would be the one leave the state.
It’ll be tough for Madden to turn down the UofA now, especially with Fortson gone.
Peterson will be the only true PG on the team next season.
    M. Wade and Ricky Scott are combo guards that are at their very best when playing defense.
This is a great situation for Madden to excell as the floor leader offensively.

  15. Big Boi Big Boi says:

McAfee’s highlights on youtube show a Steve Francis type of game to me. McAfee is a top 50-60 player in the country. He could fall or rise but right know he’s rated higher than Powell or Ricky Scott. So he’s not just bait. He’d be offered if he played at another school.(IMO)

  16. porkbelly porkbelly says:

madden and rivers are out if mcafee and thomas are in right? not just bait, a good player, but he doesnt get offer if his teamate wasnt our most coveted prospect.

  17. porkbelly porkbelly says:

who is dangelo harrison, and why does he have an offer from us? a not ranked gaurd in 2011?

  18. BigHogFan BigHogFan says:

*Springdale Har-Ber LB Hunter Kissinger said he and OL Brey Cook will visit with Coach Bobby Petrino on Wednesday.*

Maybe that will be the day Brey commits to be a HOG…

I understand coach Petrino doesn’t do package deals, but is Hunter Kissinger a better prospect than Alan Turner? (the safety we signed out of Junction city last year) I’m just curious….

  19. Wasn’t Alan Turner effectively a “package deal”????

  20. PD PD says:

Kelvin Fisher is beast! Pure athleticism…

  21. Razorback56 Razorback56 says:

as much as i’d like to think that bobby p is above doing package deals, it would have looked really really bad to lose the states top two prospects to gus. hopefully alan turner comes in and turns into a player. the kid did have the measurables.

  22. And also, BHF….how quickly you forget that Petrino offered Dakota Mosley, at the last second, before he committed to Auburn along with Dyer as the two sat back and laughed at us.

  23. BigHogFan BigHogFan says:

This seems to be a much better year for ARKANSAS recruiting… Last year, around the time we signed Alan Turner, it kind of seemed like we were scrambling there towards the end… So yes, in my eyes it did appear to be a package deal with Turner and Byran Jones… I don’t know… Maybe he was the highest rated player on their board, but signing him had to help sign Byran Jones.

Now, do we have room for a player like that this year? We seem to have more of a direction in recruiting this year… I feel we will have most of our class filled out by that point, and there probably won’t be any last minute offers going out…

  24. BigHogFan BigHogFan says:

I’m sure the coaches have a plan, and love the fact Brey has been around campus so much this spring..

  25. Razorback56 Razorback56 says:

in hindsight, on the alan turner signing, i’m glad we signed him now with gordon leaving. hope turner makes it to campus.

my understanding with mosley was that as we moved down our board, mosley’s name finally came up. nothing more than that.

  26. Hogatexan Hogatexan says:

GonzoHog said: “Peterson will be the only true PG on the team next season.”

That is not accurate… J. Nobles is a true point guard. He played pretty well down the stretch last year… Now Peterson might be better don’t know I have never seen him play. But we will have 2 true points next year… :)

  27. neither one of those players, Nobles or Peterson are “true point guards” if a true point guard has loads of assists and is a prolific scorer.

  29. PigSooie PigSooie says:

Four-star defensive end Jalen Grimble surely made Trojan fans grin when he announced Saturday his intention to attend USC….guess this why hes not coming to visit

  30. Blake Blake says:

McAfee is rated just as high as Mickelson and Ross I am pretty sure. Or right around that same area.

To say he is bait is re-donk-ulous!

This should be exciting guys. We are making our way back into Memphis where 4 and 5 star basketball players are churned out like it ain’t no thang, and also more importantly where most of the best Arkansas Razorback basketball teams of all time landed most of their top players.

I would credit this much less to us wanting Thomas and much more to Pelphrey putting an emphasis on that area of recruiting.

But…if you did want to credit a player for this it would be current/incoming freshman Mardracus Wade. Anyone remember the article where he talked about how big Arkansas use to be in Memphis, and about him and the Memphis kids brining Arkansas back to the top? I do…but I can’t find the link because it was either right before or right when he committed that is published.

I think Wade is close to these other Memphis prospects, and with him and Pelphrey and Ostrom’s focus on Memphis recruiting that we are going to see a lot more going on there.

I love the idea of Madden being a Hog, but if McAfee committed first I think you have to accept his commitment. He has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Memphis, Miami, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and South Carolina according to Scout.com and I am sure there are more. And he is a top100 ranked player and a 4 star by both Rivals and Scout. ESPN has him ranked as a 93… That is really good by the way.

Scout lists Arkansas as his leader as well, just like Richard said above.

  31. Blake Blake says:

Oh and he is a 2011 recruit like Richard said above, not a 2012 recruit like one or two people seemed to be confused about.

Being a Memphis kid I am sure he has the tough hard-nosed defense to go with his offensive creating and play making abilities. That is what we need a bunch more of to get our program back, and what we took a great step forward with when we signed Wade, Scott, and Waithe.

  32. Blake Blake says:

Now if we can just figure out this mystery recruit nonsense….hahahaha

I can’t help myself every time I think about this. I noticed in some places I read and listen that Otis from Rivals defended his mentioning this mystery recruit possibility by saying Richard, Dudley, and himself all were told the same thing.

But from what I can see Richard never posted about it. That is because you are first class Richard. First class.

I wouldn’t post something like that either until I knew a name or something solid and concrete.

He may end of being right, and his source may end up being solid like he says he was on the Petrino hire. I just don’t see it happening unless this kid is truly a top notch player. Pelphrey needs to keep any extra scholarships for the 2011 class that he can with all the top talent showing high interest.

Just think if Madden and McAfee both want to be Hogs but can’t because Pelphrey offered some 2 or 3 star SF or PF that is just another body…

  33. porkbelly porkbelly says:

you think we have a better chance of getting thomas with mcafee or not? with. so on some level he is bait for thomas, no matter how he is ranked. just so happen this bait is a really good player too, so its a good reach. and due to maddens outrageous temper, a safer reach at that.

  34. Blake Blake says:

I see what you are saying, but I guess I just don’t like to word bait or even package deal for this.

I think it is a lot more like I said a few posts up that Wade was talking about in the old article.

Arkansas is big in Memphis, and they use to be even bigger. Hell I was at the Pigamid every time and it was rocking, yee haw!

If Wade talks the Hogs up, and a player like McAfee commits then we could increase our chances with Thomas for sure, but also with every other top Memphis recruit in 2011, 2012, 2013 and beyond…

  35. porkbelly porkbelly says:

i still say go get a big body if he can. a scholarship is a one year thing these days. if a last minute recruit helps for this year do it. and you never know what will happen next year, a player could leave, or remain injured and lose his scholarship. if pel wants to try and stick around, winning a weak west next year had better happen.

  36. porkbelly porkbelly says:

youre right, bait is not the right word, more of an incentive recruit maybe, or something to that effect.

  37. porkbelly porkbelly says:

i do enjoy your posts blake. are you a profesional writter? thanks as always for the imput, and well structured oppinions. you are also the only person who seems to respond without making too much fun of me, and its appreciated.

I do some freelance writing, and am in the process of building a fast growing Razorback fan site.

I enjoy talking with everyone on here. I have been in my arguments, but I have done a good job for a few months now of just reading, posting my opinion, and leaving it at that.

  39. Blake Blake says:

People will try to “bait” you with an argumentative line. You just have to remember you are here reading because Richard has really good info on the Hogs, and because there can be really good conversations.

  53. joshua joshua says:

PeytonHillisFTW, true point guards don’t have to be prolific scorers. Both Peterson and Nobles are PG’s in MHO. Jason Kidd is not a “prolific scorer”, John Stockton – not a prolific scorer. Although those guys could score the ball, they were/are hardly prolific scorers.

With guys like Powell, and Rotnei, I would rather have a PG who was not considered a “prolific” scorer – we need a defensive-minded, assist-first, game manager, who can handle pressure, distribute the rock, and then score if needed – ie. Cory Beck.

  54. Rsvlboi Rsvlboi says:

Hey guys missouri had 2 scouts at the Russellville field house today to check on my friend Mitch Hall

  55. dwp007 dwp007 says:

Corey Beck was definitely the engine that drove the car, back in the day. What a class act, leader and player.

I’m with most of you guys on the headgear. Like the Horns, those Hog helmets are recognized and known worldwide. Don’t mess with the headgear.

Not certain of the source, but I just heard on ESPN that Notre Dame, Missouri, Nebraska and Rutgers have been offered to join the Big 10. Any thoughts on possibly UT and A&M to the SEC? There may be some sort of legislative issue involved, as before.

  56. RKV RKV says:

The issue before was texas couldn’t go with out A&M and the SEC would not take A&M bacause they were on ncaa probation.

  57. I want to get in on the love fest too Richard. Most of all — thanks for keeping The Recruiting Guy free!

  58. dwp007 dwp007 says:

Check that, it was ESPN News and the “sources” were “rumored”… whatever the hell that is suppose to mean. From everything being written and said, however, the BIG 12 may be in some trouble. Any thoughts?

  59. lol blake, you are treading on thin ice with your last post there

  60. That uniform idea is too bland — ie it could be Nebraska, Louisville, etc. We need something more original and with less stripes on every part of the uniform and helmet.

Our uniforms now, however, are way too frenetic, and i can’t wait to get a sweet new Nike Combat look. I have a couple of ideas, but alas, I am no professional with PhotoShop

  61. Hey Rsv, give us the good word on Mitch Hall… Are the Razorbacks even on his radar, or is he determined to go somewhere else?

  62. blu3tick blu3tick says:

I like the helmets and all… Something new…

  63. RKV RKV says:

They said the big 10 network gets paid on a per potential viewer in each state they are in and Missouri would bring them $1.7 million a month.

  64. This guy is a greased lightning Top 150 prospect, and is considering Arkansas –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI8-ZlafhEY

  65. Blake Blake says:

That is just the latest comment on the unis. Some guy put them up awhile back saying it was from a Nuke designer. Most of us I think have seen them but thought there was no way those would be them. about 9 players and 20 fans talked about them. Am I just reading too much into things with Thomas saying those “are” our new uniforms? If so its because of the dead time.

  66. we should nuke those uniforms. i doubt if that is really a nike design, but if so….START OVER!

  67. OKOFCOURSE OKOFCOURSE says:

The SEC will make the biggest mistake in their whole history is they expand to 16 teams. The only reason this has become an issue is the Longhorns’ lust to join the best conference in the country. Texas wants to get into the SEC because they are already losing recruits to the SEC. All this talk about them wanting to go into the PAC-10 is just a smoke screen to have everyone in the SEC who hate Texas to drop their guard and have the ones who want them in to start doing back-flips when Texas “finally agrees” to join.

If Texas does join the SEC they will naturally start calling the shots (out of Dallas because that will be the SEC West headquarters) and all you have to do to know what will happen next is look at what happened to the Big 12 when Texas ran that conference from Dallas – it was all about them. The other members were trying to break out of the Big 12 after putting up with that crap for about 2 years. As a matter of fact Colorado would have joined the Pac-10 (and the Pac-10 wanted them alone with Colorado State or Utah) a long time ago but Colorado got into all that trouble.

The fact of the matter is the Pac-10 did not want Texas and they used the aTm probation as a scapegoat. Before the SEC jumps head first into this death spiral by adding Texas I wish someone would check with some inside sources from the Big 12 and find out the real reason that conference is falling a part and also the real reason the Pac-10, who needed an 11th and 12th team added years ago refused to take Texas and aTm. I remember when they ran the SWC and they sure screwed them up and we were lucky to escape and even then we had to do it in secret. The Longhorns made the SWC miserable and they were the reason. Then they ran the Big 12 and they screwed them up and made the other members look like rats leaving a sinking ship and so please tell me why would anything change? The fact is it won’t.

The SEC should wait if the Big 10 expands to 16 and see just how that works out – because it won’t – there certainly isn’t any hurry. If these suits who run the SEC want Texas in the SEC then Arkansas should in fact go to the Big 12 because the problem with the Big twelve was not the Big 11 but the f–ked up 1, Texas. They suck and always have. By the way I hope the fans will hold the administrators of the SEC accountable for this decision if Texas is allowed in the SEC because it will destroy a great conference and someone should pay the price.

  68. hog fan in florida hog fan in florida says:

Wow…Daniel Lasco. The lad is FAST… and runs up the middle incredably well. But the HawgsSports says he has NO interest in Arkansas… am I missing something here? He would be a great catch for the Hogs

  69. RKV RKV says:

If texas, A&M, missouri, & nebraska all leave there won’t be a big 12 to go to.

  70. joshua joshua says:

I do NOT want any TX team (or OK team for that matter) in the SEC. From a recruiting standpoint it would hurt us here in Razorback Nation. Right now we have an advantage recruiting against other SEC teams when we recruit in TX and OK because we are by far the furthest west and neighbor both of those states. And when recruting out of TX and OK (Big 12 schools) we can atleast pull the “we-play-in-the-SEC” card to recruit against other TX and OK schools. If we bring TX and/or OK schools into the SEC we lose some of that pull.

I would rather see us expand the SEC and keep it in the eastern US. Clemson and Fla St sound good to me. Just leave our TX and OK recruiting to us.

  71. OKOFCOURSE OKOFCOURSE says:

Then we can go independent, get our own T.V. contract and/or station, and be independent. I know basketball may be a problem but we could join the Missouri Valley Conference in just basketball like Notre Dame did in the Big East, or maybe even a smaller conference that will almost assure us of going to the NCAA tournament every year and besides we may not even need to join one if we have our own TV network because we could get a lot of good teams to come and play us here just to get TV exposure. Same with baseball, but let’s don’t get back into the same situation that we just broke free from and were very lucky we escaped in the first place.

  72. hog fan in florida — ESPN says he does, maybe one of the sites is outdated. yeah his runs up the middle are particularly impressive

  73. hes not as much of a bruiser running style like Malcolm Brown, but he is super fast and finesse like running style, like Felix Jones

  74. joshua joshua says:

wow, Daniel Lasco is fast! He actually has a long stride, ie. Matt Jones (but he has a better initial burst than Matt). He’s just the opposite of Dennis Johnson. DJ takes about 20 lightening fast steps to cover 5 yards, whereas Lasco covers 5 yards in less than 2 strides.

  75. dwp007 dwp007 says:

I’m with you, OkO. I would hate to see the Shorthorns in the SEC, or A&M for that matter. Something surely seems to be wrong in the BIG 12 these days — and UT has always had a highly inflated self sense of importance. I would much prefer kicking their butts every so often in a BCS bowl.

The Razorbacks are in the best conference in the country and if there is an expansion, it should be done in a a very thoughtful and deliberate manner.

  76. PeytonHillisFTW PeytonHillisFTW says:

Well, Missouri Valley Conference is where our basketball team belongs right now — along with the other SEC West teams

  77. PeytonHillisFTW PeytonHillisFTW says:

THanks RKV for that link. I found him on ESPN football recruiting. That link has a good quote though — “A very smooth runner, he makes it look effortless.”

Thats exactly what his running style looks like — effortless

  78. fliphog fliphog says:

a “true” pg is someone who leads your team… usually NOT a prolific scorer more of an assist guy but CAN score if and when needed… the straw that stirs the drink if you will…. Corey Beck was not prolific scorer but true point guard he was…

  91. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

Rivals is reporting a football commitment.

  92. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Hogatexan is right. I completely forgot about J. Nobles.
I haven’t got to see J. Peterson play or even practice yet, so I really don’t have a good idea what kind of competition those two would present Madden with, but you would have to like his chances. He’s a very good player.

It’s hard not to hope we bring in another big man this year, because we need another one really bad, but if we’re not able to bring one in, it betters our chances to bring in more top notch recruits for 2011.
This makes it kind of hard to decide which is better.

  96. Hawgs_SEC2010 Hawgs_SEC2010 says:

Keante Minor is listed as an ESPN 150 watch list recruit. Thats 2 with dean. Would be 3 if they didnt downgrade B. Allen….

  97. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I’m almost not looking forward to when Rivals starts ranking some of these kids.
Petrino doesn’t just look at the stars and rankings, he evaluates talent for his system.
From what I’ve read on Jason Allen, he never even considered another school, so sending out game/highlight tape to other programs for evaluation and setting up other official visits never happened.
This probably kept him from recieving more stars and a higher ranking by the recruiting services.
I can’t really speak for the other 4 commits, but I hope everyone realizes what a really good QB commit we have already.

  98. Andrew Andrew says:

    Brandon, maybe?

  99. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Sorry Andrew, I mean’t Brandon Allen.

  100. Blake Blake says:

Minor is a tough guy, and a top notch prospect.

I watched video on him when we offered, and I just re-watched it.

What you will see from him is that he gets behind all the defenders in a hurry. The video I watched only showed offensive highlights, so if he is being looked at on defense I cannot comment on that really.

I will say that his HS QB under throws nearly everything and he comes back and has major hops in getting up to get the ball. So if he possibly is being looked at for DB he has the ball hawk mentality.

A very good commit for the Hogs. He looks to me like more offers will come pouring in. Right now it appears just Kansas and Arkansas offered.

  101. RKV RKV says:

I don’t worry about the services rankings because every one of BP’s classes have rated higher 4 years later meaning he did a better job of rating than they did.

  102. RKV RKV says:

He also recruits certain body types he knows will develop into what he wants.

  103. Blake Blake says:

RKV that is exactly right. His classes have moved up more than anyones over his time as a CFB HC. Word up!

  105. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Petrino also stipulates and enforces no-nonsense team guidelines/rules.
Cross that line and you are gone.
When you gain that type of a reputation as a developer of talent and a disiplinarian, most of the commitments will come from the high character kids. Those are always the easier ones to coach up.

  106. Richard, you may already be on this — but i would love to see some highlights on our newest WR commit!

anybody hear pel’s interview about 12 of 13 players were accademicly inelligable when he arrived in 2007? sounds like grades may cost us a scholarship in a few years. extra thanks to washington, and welsch for not finishing their classes and hurting us further in that respect. ah, to be young an appreciate nothing. those two on the whole, will go down as two of my least favoritr razorbacks of all time. and thats saying something, because i really disliked fortson too. thats awful, now sitting here thinking about it, its true, my least favorite hogs of all time are all on last years team. well their reighn of uninspired ball is over, so at least i have that going for me. a toast! to a better ball ahead!

  122. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

i like the optimism. i hope powell does not lose any productivity having to play in the 5 spot. relly excited to see all the new gaurds, and if peterson can run the team the way pel says he will. with a much improved team, there is no reason to accept anything less than winning a watered down west this year. and then in comes class 2011 and hopefully powell stays and we start doing some real damage again! Did ya catch the 14 minute interview with Coach John Pelphrey??

    http://www.1037thebuzz.com/media-gallery/detail.asp?GalleryID=730

Pelphrey was in town for a Boys and Girls Club fundraiser and while appearing on “The Zone” slipped in an interesting piece of information about academic struggles the program has endured.

Pelphrey told Justin Acri that he took over a program where 12 of 13 players were ineligible prior to the 2007-08 season. Things were tense in the summer leading up to Pelphrey’s first season, he said.

Players won’t need summer school this time around to maintain their eligibility, Pelphrey told Acri. That should give them more time to work on their game and try to improve last year’s 14-16 record.

“That’s a huge difference in culture from where we were,” Pelphrey said in the 14-minute interview.

It’s unclear why this is just now coming to light, and it doesn’t excuse recent struggles on the court, but it is an interesting contrast to where Pelphrey says the program is today.

  126. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

I think I know why Altman left and no one else wanted the job. Thank you, Coach Pelphrey for taking on this endeavor

  129. Mike Mike says:

We all want Frazier but I read that he’s visiting Auburn this weekend.

  130. HOGen-Dazs HOGen-Dazs says:

“Minor also plays point guard in basketball and averages 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game. “I’d like to walk-on for basketball and play both,” he said.”

This was on Scout about Minor. So hey…looks like we might be adding to our PG depth.

  131. HOGen-Dazs HOGen-Dazs says:

And he has hair like Courtney Fortson. Just sayin’

  132. Razorback56 Razorback56 says:

FRANK: “Let’s give a big Razorback welcome for the new coach of your Arkansas Razorbacks!!!”
    DANA: “OMG!”
    CROWD: “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…..”

  133. Blake Blake says:

Dana Altman was likely not told anything about the situation, and then when blindsided by it all went running like we all witnessed.

I still think the guy is a pansy and gave the weakest hog call imaginable. His skirt blew up and was in the way of his arms, and kept him from calling the Hogs properly.

Either way, Pelphrey gets more credit in my book for taking on this situation and for facing the fire from fans and media when all this has been going on.

If he accomplishes what I think he will with this 2010, and the upcoming 2011 class I think people will be praising him and acting like they never had any doubt.

But the times HAVE been tough. However, I see this a situation where some credit for facing the adversity is due.

FYI there is news that the mystery big may be that kid from Minnesota that is 6’10″ that got out of his LOI to Boston College. He is a 4 star according to Scout, and a 3 star according to rivals. He has some very impressive offers and he scored a 36 on his ACT. Yes a 36.

The rumor I have heard is that he is going to be visiting this weekend maybe, and that he has good interest and the coaches are high on him. He may not be the mystery recruit, but he has good size and some serious smarts. I say get em!

  134. Blake Blake says:

Oh and Frazier has visited Arkansas 5 times the amount or more than any other school he will ever visit. I hope the Hogs land him.

I watched the tape on Daniel, kid has a great burst. My questions is how many fumbles did he have his Jr. year?

I must share my opinion on the super conference. Anymore teams in the conference and you will lose rivalries. Example we play three eastern teams a year,in each of those games you have an east vrs west. It also shows us which side is stronger each year. If we add four more teams, than we will only have one east vrs west game (how boring). Second, the conference area would be to large, from Austin to Florida. I like the fact that we are the farthest team to the west. I believe it helps in recruiting.

The idea of a super conference sucks. Also I don’t think that is Arkansas’s new uniform.

Absolutely, MRP. I have been chiming this the whole while that I have been ridiculed by the darksiders for my support for Mr. Coach Pelphrey. (as have others here)

(“OH, he can’t coach.”) That is normally the tag line.

I guess he did pretty well considering he had 1 (ONE) player he could count on, being on his roster the 1st year…and don’t even go there. While the shape of the program wasn’t as bad as what is going on with the oil spill in the gulf right now, the analogy is right there for you to see.

He is doing the right thing, WHILE getting us better student athletes to advance our program. I am EXTREMELY PROUD and THANKFUL to have Coach Pelphrey getting THE U of A’s basketball program turned around.

Now, you darksiders will (as will we all) get a chance to see him coach, instead of having to babysit all of the time.

I look forward to the upcoming year, as I always do. But even more so knowing we have a Coach that I respect and believe in.

I agree with RazorRandy, he is a good coach of high character. It is good to see him getting some good quality players. On Fortson, I am glad he is gone…he was all about Fortson and not the team.

  147. If you guys want fair treatment of Coach Pel, you seriously need to get off of Fortson’s back. Its highly hypocritical.

  148. Looks like McAfee has some hops, but whoever that pick-up team he was playing against didnt give a flip about playing defense.

  149. beasley beasley says:

a couple things i found about Kevin Noreen 6’10 Foward out of Minnesota.

Noreen finished his career at Minnesota Transitions Charter School as the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota prep history and was named Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball this season.

Noreen leads the state in scoring, averaging a whopping 34.8 points per game. He’s second in rebounding, with almost 20 boards per game

  150. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Let’s all hope CJP never has to bring in another recruit like Courtney Fortson again. It’s really hard to root for someone in a Hog uniform when they’re worried more about their mouthpiece and hair than playing defense.

  151. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

couldnt agree more, razorrandy, and gonzo. i cant lie, the last two years, watching welsch, washington, and fortson was the hardest team to root for.my son is at an age where he is starting to watch sports with his old man and asking a ton of questions. it was difficult to explain why i root for guys i dont like. next year will be a breath of fresh air in my house.

    ________________________________________________

    Totally agree.

  154. Pelphrey homers need to realize that CJP was one person who was glad he brought in Fortson to the Arkansas Razorbacks, because Fortson probably saved his fracking job! Do you really think that with another 2 win SEC season, Pelphrey would still be around?

Again, you homers are so illogical, its useless trying to argue about it. Every ounce of blame that still exists in the program you try to pin on Pelphrey’s own recruits. As I’ve said before, with a real coach, Fortson would be NBA startable right now.

  155. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

A 5-10 point guard who had almost as many turnovers as assist and dosnt have a consistent jump shot would be NBA startable? LOL seriously? Your post get sillier as you go.

I don’t think anyone should blame Courtney for anything, but your opinion that he would be “NBA startable” proves you don’t have a clue.

  156. Russellvilleboi Russellvilleboi says:

i think jeff peterson will contribute majorly in his 1st year of service for the hogs. he will probaly average 16 ppg & nobles will be right behind him if he flutters any.

  157. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

He had a real coach. He didn’t accept disipline.
Do you honestly believe CJP brought that kid in here just to babysit him every stinking day?
We were all glad to see CJP bring in a 4 star, (9th ranked PG in the country) recruit, but most Hog fans are glad to see him go now, plain and simple.
Pelphrey would never say it outloud, but he’s probably glad too.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out Washington, Welsh AND FORTSON all had character issues, just a little common sense.

Pelphrey brought talent to the UofA in his very first recruiting year. (2008) He had no time to develope relationships with these kids or their families. Talent was the only issue because Pel wasn’t established yet in the program.
Why do you think Jeff Long continues stands by him? It’s because he’s intelligent enough to understand firing a head coach every 3rd stinking year doesn’t allow him enough time to weed out all the program’s garbage we’ve accumilated since 2002.

There is one thing I will agree with you on though. It is useless to continue agruing about the obvious. Every ounce of blame goes to the previous administration for putting us in this rediculous situation.
The only thing CJP could possibly be blamed for is taking the rediculous head coaching job at the UofA basketball program.

  158. Mr P thanks for your laughable know-it-all post about the aspects of Fortson’s game that are lacking — aspects that could have been improved with a real coach. thank you for making my point for me.

  159. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Oh and by the way, Oregon is easily 10 times the better job now than the UofA was 3 years ago for Dana Altman.

  160. How do you know that Fortson did not accept discipline? Sounds to me like you are just throwing around your perceptions of what went on behind the scenes as fact.

Coach Pel has been so much more fair and intellectually honest about the Fortson situation than you or Mr P have been. Oh but i forgot, Gonzo and mr p know more than coach pel. lmao.

  161. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

All coaches teach their PGs to make the right on-court decisions for the betterment of the team. Nolan did this with Kareem Reid for 3 seasons. He did play good defense, but never developed a shot. Was that Nolan’s fault? Was it his fault Reid wasn’t NBA startable?

If that particular player (Fortson) chooses not to listen, refuses to play consistant defense, refuses to use his surounding resouces (team mates) so that he may continue to shine on the court, there’s nothing you can do to make him better.

  162. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

MRPRFCT and Gonzo know more than Pel. Now that’s funny Peyton.
Are you defending Pel now, or just arguing for the hell of it?

MRPRFCT is right. Your post get sillier as you go. Thanks for proving that point.

  163. hogfan4life hogfan4life says:

  164. porkbellyboy porkbellyboy says:

of course pel is happy fortson is gone, and i dont need anyone to tell me differently. a leader leads. he doesnt alienate his teamates, or run in circles instead of run an offense. and he sure doesnt get suspended for half the year. supposed to lead by example. he proved to me what kind of leader he is. not sure if fortson was even wanted by pel other than to just fill a roster anyway. when you dont land the guys you really want, you can end up with guys like fortson. the good news is that he was dumb enough to hire an agent, and for that i thank him. most important position in basketball can not be run by a schmuck.

  165. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:
