The past two years have been painful, though very unusual, given the well documented [lump sum] graduations, early departures and suspensions.

With a talented recruiting class, starting with the big combo guard from Texas and the others, the season should be much different next year inasmuch as Pelphrey will finally have some much needed quality depth. It’s tough pulling a HOTDOG off the court when there’s no one to back him up. It’s also difficult to play pressure and in your face ball for 40 minutes without a physical melt down.

PEL gets it done next year as the Razorbacks win a minimum of 20 games and get back to having some fun and experiencing a DIFFERENT kind of MADNESS in March.

I think we will be a better team next year with better guard play. Let’s give Pel more time to bring in his kind of players. Since our immediate need is signing a “big” guy, I like to see Pel hire a “big” guy as assistant coach like Big Joe Kline, who can mentor a big guy because of his years of NBA experience.

  3. RazorRandy RazorRandy says:

dwp007, I agree with you totally.

  4. RazorRandy RazorRandy says:

belpa zhog, interesting take. If “big” Coach Kleine could help recruit the “bigs”, then I’m for it.

  5. Hog n OKC Hog n OKC says:

Has anyone heard any news on our “big guy” targets? It’s been quite lately.

  6. dwp007 dwp007 says:

As to BIG targets, it continues to be said or written that we have a legitimate chance with Marshawn Powell’s buddy, Ricardo Ratcliffe. Rat made a recent visit and is supposedly the best juco player in the country.

The idea of bringing in Joe Kleine seems to be catching some attention. With his Razorback and NBA past, BIG Joe would be BIG time, in my opinion.

  7. yes! joe kliene would be great and i sure hope yall are right about next year. Pels job is on the line, i hope our patience will payoff and have a great year next year.

  8. Big Boi Big Boi says:

CJP will not hire Joe Kliene. He’ll hire some unopinionated jobber from his coaching past just wait and see!

  9. Big Boi Big Boi says:

Other than Klien I would like CJP go after some of these guys(CJP would have to fire Rob Evans) Melvin Watkins, Philip Pearson, Scott Spinelle, Phil Cunningham, Russ Springmann and Tony Jones. Tony Jones is becoming the top recruiter in the SEC and Bruce Pearls system is very good.(IMO)

  10. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I’m personally not blown away by the idea of Joe Klien being added to the coaching staff.
I know he was a great center for the Hogs when Eddie Sutton was here and has NBA experience, but he played strickly in a half-court system under Sutton and was a career backup in the pros.
I’m wondering if he could even fit in at all with the style of play CJP want’s to run.
Nothing against Joe. He was a great center for the Hogs in his college days, but is this really the guy you want coaching the possible inside tandem of M. Powell and R. Ratliffe? Totally different kind of players.

  11. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

I like Joe K. alot, but as far as an assistant to coach these guys…I got two words…”BIG NASTY”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

He’s already an assistant coach at the college level, and we’re not looking for an assistant head coach, that’s what Rob Evans is for…we need a guy that is great at knowing and teaching the low post position, and there’s never been a hog better than Corliss Williamson at that! (no offense to Oliver Miller, who was probably just as good, but was a center)

  13. Big Boi Big Boi says:

bigdaddy, Corliss Williamson was just named the Head Coach for UCA.

  14. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

Well dadgum, I saw him on the tv the other day, but I had it muted. I figured he was just being interviewed about the upcoming NCAA tournament. That is great for him, I didn’t expect him to be a head coach this quickly, the last thing I heard, was that he was an unpaid assistant for Arkansas Tech, or somebody. UCA is not a bad job either! He can win some games, recruit, and get some good exposure there. Kudos to big nasty, and dadgum for us!

  15. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

…actually I just read that it was Arkansas Baptist…and, to those recruits that I thought would benefit from Corliss’s knowledge of the low post…I was just kidding. He’d probably not be near as good of a coach or teacher as Pelphrey! ;-)

  16. arkcoachnwaiting arkcoachnwaiting says:

How can you all believe we are headed in the right direction? This is just amazing. If we keep accepting poor performance we will get just that. Pel hasn’t a clue on what he’s doing and he has made a tough situation worse. Things will not change, and I imagine an even worse year. We will lose one maybe two people next year not counting seniors. Once again only holding on to one or two guys that he brings in a year. I will continue to follow the Hogs but to lie to myself about things getting better is laughable.

  17. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

    arkcoachnwaiting,

I’ll make sure to remember your post next season when things are better.

In the mean time, Roy Williams must be a horrible head coach. He has all those coveted all-americans, had a terrible season, then barely beat Miss. St. in the National Insignificant Tournament. DEGADS!

  18. dwp007 dwp007 says:

With the existing and incoming class, and some much needed stability, Pel will get it done, starting next season. It’s hard to play the game the way it needs to be played without any [quality] depth.

Things change, very much for the better, next year.

  19. Big Boi Big Boi says:

I wonder if T.J. Cleveland is on Pel’s radar? He has been with Mike Anderson for 4-5 years now and is one of his better recruiters.

  20. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I like this article from Scout:

    http://arkansas.scout.com/2/955215.html

Also, in football recruiting news, Scout’s profile of Brey Cook has him high on Arkansas and OU, with everyone else listed as medium interest.
This is encouraging, but OU scares me a little.

  21. belpa zhog belpa zhog says:

Basketball recruiting is very much different from football. In football you have to recruit a bunch of good players. In basketball, you just land one very good player and it changes the dynamics of the team. Just land one unstoppable scoring machine and you win a lot of games.

  22. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

belpa zhog, would you be referring to this guy?
