Offer came quickly, to player’s relief

Defensive/offensive lineman Austin Beck, 6-8, 300, 5.3 of Nowata, Okla,. received a scholarship offer from Arkansas on March 5 to go along with offers from Tulsa, Baylor and Illinois. He’s also drawing interest from Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri and others.

Beck said the Razorbacks wasted little time in offering him once they viewed his video.

“They called coach and said they were interested and said they were going to watch my film,” Beck said.”They called back and officially offered me. That all happened with an hour and half span.”

Arkansas’ offer caught Beck by surprise but it was welcomed.

“It was kind of a shock because I wasn’t hearing anything from them and I was kind of worried that they weren’t going to,” said Beck, who visited Fayetteville on Thursday. “I was praying and they finally called. I was definitely shock but it was definitely a happy moment.”

Beck has relatives in Prescott, including two cousins.

“One is going to West Point and the other is going to Arkansas next year,” Beck said. “I think that would be pretty cool if he and I went to the same college. We’re pretty close.”
