Ftwhog what makes you so sure? I think petrino will get a couple of good athletes but until that first blue chipper signs on the dotted line I am skeptical of his ability to close the deal. I think he has tremendous coaching ability but I think his no nonsense sandpaper personality hinders him from coming in and convincing.a KID that U A is the place for him. His whole “we offered him and if he wants to come he will come” approach doesn’t always work. Sometimes you gotta some love to get that commitment.
This is in response to chadk’s post and has absolutely NOTHING to do with Mr. Frazier.
If you have to hold their hand and blow smoke up their butt through the whole recruiting process, send them down the road. Let someone else deal with the prima donnas. CBP is after kids that have their heads on straight and are smart enough to get on board with a system that could elevate them to the next level.
All any recruit needs to do is read the interview of Mitch Petrus speaking about what CBP has meant to him and his prospective NFL career. Ask him what he thinks of CBP’s “non nonsense sandpaper personality”.
Exactly. This coaching staff knows how to show some love. What they will NOT do is kiss a kids butt and do a tap dance to try to convince them to come.
Your comments are based pretty much on ALL on the Dyer situation. What other instate high quality athletes have left the state that the U of A worked hard to get but couldn’t because of the “love” factor?
Matthews went to Ole Miss, he was going to end up there no matter what. CBP signed Winston. Who am I missing here?
RazorRandy nailed it and, just in case there is any doubt about how CBP feels about his players, listen to the kids who missed the Liberty Bowl. If (and I don’t) I had a son playing in college, I would want him playing for someone to help him become a man, not a rah rah cheerleader.
I think MrP’s long time point on hitting the top kids EARLY is the key to momentum. I know BP knows what he is doing, BUT even the best make mistakes and can make adjustments. We desperately need some early momentum. Why not start out with a bang in recruiting. I realize this past class is a hodge-podge of terrific athletes(which is why the class didn’t grade out so high). But know we have some DL studs within our reach, I mean why would anyone not sell the fact to two of the strongest high school kids in the country, that they can compete in the weightroom and football field. They can play side by side on the DL. Geeze prior to their Sr years the La kid and S. Harvill combined for almost 1100lbs Benchpress! Market that to both these kids.
Did he not sign …Wingo,J.Adams,A.Oden,J.Wright,C.Berna,
K.Davis,A.Curtis,Calvin Barnett,Byran Jones and DD Jones?
All of these kids were 4 star on someones web site.
Same as getting a Date, just be up front and be prepared to walk away if the answer is No or if the games began…the thing with games if you give in once, be prepared to give in forever
Petrino has a plan and knows what type of players he wants. listening to cook and frazier talk they have alot of respect for their position coach and petrino. they want to play for their home state along with the academics the u of a offers. be patient they will commit and after the great year they will have the razorbacks will become an elite program.
Bobby and cheerleader just can’t be mentioned in the same breath and keep a straight face. Bobby is a no-nonsense guy, but when you hear his players talk about him, they all say (to a man) that when you put in the work and put forth the effort to becoming a better player and student that he becomes your biggest cheerleader and biggest fan. To me that is more important than showing a bunch of artificial love to a kid that you really don’t know just to get him to sign. I know that it happens every day at a lot of universities around the country and that may be their way, but that is not the Petrino way and right now the Petrino way seems to be working out just fine!
There seems to be a problem universal to a lot of these kids. When the coaching staff “shows them some love”, the kids seem to become prima donna’s and end up getting into trouble. Witness Ne’Kesse Richardson at Tennessee. Every school that has coddled the kids has experienced it. Where the coaching staff has been “no-nonsence” the kids have gotten into less trouble and in most cases, the trouble has been a lot less severe.

Well said Randy!

Why can’t you have both?

MrP, the thought of CBP walking around with a kazoo in his hand just doesn’t work for me. LOL.
Leave the cheerleading to the cheerladers.
Nick Saban is a flat out SOB. He doesn’t seem to have any problems.
I like the serious business approach. I like CBP’s the best though.

Are you talking of 5 star players?

Hey Richard,
I wish you would give us a post-up for us to talk about predictions in the tournament, the tournament itself, and brackets.

One Prediction about the NCAAT, the Hogs won’t will it this year, just my guess
i’m excited about how our 2011 class will turn out. Some big time JUCO help, and i think we have more of an even # of O vs D stud recruits
