Junior college PF Ricardo Ratliffe and I exchanged a couple of text messages Monday night.
I asked if he was still visiting the three other schools, Cincinnati, Missouri and Clemson. He said yes but said he hasn’t set any dates.
Louisiana DL Mickey Johnson won the state weight lifting meet on Saturday by setting a state record with a 450-pound bench press along with a 610 squat and 500 dead lift. He said he beat the second place finisher by 200 pounds.
Johnson, 6-1, 310, 5.0 of Covington St. Paul high school has scholarship offers from Arkansas, LSU. Nebraska, Arizona, Miss. St, Tulane and others.

Richard thanks for the update. did Ratliffe say if he ever told anyone he was cancelling those visits? why do these ppl keep putting false things out there? just shots in the dark or do they lack good communication skills?
blake…I said that Dudley Dawson on the Bo show yesterday said Ratliffe was cancelling his other visits and wants to play with his buddy Powell.
So if that’s putting false things out then it’s only second hand off the radio. I figured DD would have an inside advantage to this knowledge.

Things change by the hour. Ricardo could end up cancelling the visits. FWIW, I would be somewhat surprised if Ricardo didn’t end up at Arkansas but that’s not guarantee.
All:
Help me out here. Given the announcement that Rotnei is coming back and Hawg fans are stifling yawns with their excitement, what will it take for CJP to keep his job next year?
a. Ratliffe signs on, Fourtson learns to play controlled bball, i.e. MUCH fewer turnovers per game, the stands start to fill up again and Arkansas finally gets above .500 overall for the ’10-’11 season.
b. Arkansas gets back to the NCAA Tourney (but loses in the 1st round due to tough seeding as a result of a decent but less-than-stellar resume).
c. Arkansas makes it back to the Big Dance and wins at least one game.
Good stuff Richard….Thanks!!
That is great news on Ricardo!!
By the way, Richard “The Recruiting Guy” was great today. Mardracus seems like quite the player…
The guard competition at the U of A should be tremendous next year. My opinion is that we will look like a totally different team from Pelphrey’s first three teams here.
looks like Dudley Dawson was wrong then, lets put the blame where it lies shall we?
the other reporters are who i was talking about not you daz. i was posting about the cancelled visits hours b4 you said dudley said that bc i read it like 4 places early yesterday.
Guys, please consider your source before posting a gossip or speculation. The person who post a wrong or incorrect information is as guilty as his source. Don’t wash your hand and blame your source.
belpha arkansas news was the main source i read. it was the first story listed yesterday morning i read online to start my day and was good news i thought. you can still see it. i would link but im on my phone
Well, recruiting has never been known to be an exact science
Here is the first link with the earliest report he had canceled his visits from what I can see. It was from Harry King at Arkansas News.

Everyone just has to realise that recruiting changes as often as a huming bird flaps its wings.
I think for Pel to be around after next year, this is what has to happen:
Win 20 or more
Make it to NCAA tourney
Sign impressive class in November (Ark Big 3)
It is not so much the signing of one player but rather the totality of the direction of the program. Next season must be a big step forward.
make it to NCAA will quiet some but not by much, i’ll say we’ll have to win at least 1 game and lost a close 2nd game, not in a blow out fashion like few years ago.
I’m not excited about bb like i once was (even thru Stan Heath years)
hey maybe we should just hope to make the NIT
If Arkansas lands Ratliffe the #1 Juco prospect will any one see that has a victory and be more positive?
He would go extremely nicely with the players we have and add to our solid 2010 recruiting class of: Rickey Scott and Mardracus Wade both highly recruited and thought guards, and Marvill Waithe the #4 rated JUCO player.
*as a victory
Belza, I don’t know if I was the first one(and don’t care if I was) but I posted on here what I heard Dudley say. Whether what Dudley said was true or not, what I said WAS true. If that makes me “guilty” in your eyes, so be it. This is a recruiting board and rumors and recruiting go hand in hand. I won’t apologize for passing on info if I hear from what I believe to be a quality source.
Even if we bring in Ratliffe next season, it will be a tall order do duplicate what Miss State did this year with 23 wins. And they still didn’t get invited to the dance.
Ron, a 25 win min. for next season if we can pull Rat.MO
Slow down, guys. We’ll be much better next year because Our guard and perimeter play will be much better and selfish guard play won’t rule. Radliffe will help Powell inside immensely should he come on board. BUT remember they have to get use to playing together in a new system; they’ll need time to gel. I’ll say this: after they have played some games next year, if Radliffe is in the mix with the other four newcomers, this will be a good basketball team. The signing class next year will be the best in YEARS! I believe we are on our way back!
You know I feel pel needs to recruit a coach who can coach post players like kline also. but I believe with a summer in the training room for powell to get stronger and nobles to go with peterson as well as the freshmen coming in ark will improve because for the first time with all pels recuits he will be able to play a full court pressing game like he wants to. plus @ the end of this season our players in the rotation had played so many mins like clarke that there legs where gone. I stated after the lsu lose clarke had no ups left in is jumper just as it was last season at the end of the year. when arkansas can play its 12 players so you dont have 4 players playing 35 mins plus all season the team will be able to close out the season not like last year and this one the hogs where dead.they died the second half of the alabama game and never recovered. I feel the pel haters will change there minds next year.
Richard, did Samuel Harvill ever make that phone call?

Harry King has always been a reliable source not prone to throwing out wild claims. Things can change, but until Ratliffe actually makes another visit, In Harry I Trust.
Richard, have you heard of any possible replacement for Isaas Brown?
Any names lined up for interviews? Is Nelson Catalina in the running? Or would you care to comment?
