Arkansas offered a scholarship to 2012 WR Jalen Cobb, 6-0, 180 of Warren on Friday, according to Lumberjack Coach Bo Hembree.
Auburn, Ole Miss and many others are showing interest in Cobbs.

Great news!!!!!!!!
212 ??? wow…that is jumping ahead…dont know a thing about this kid. Not that I need to know. Ohh well….when is spring football gettin here??
Well since we’ve got such a good relationship with Warren products and I’m sure Petrino does with coach Hembree…coach Hembree has probably told Petrino’s staff that this kid is going to be special and they need to jump on him now.
He’s probably quick as lightning. Richard any 40 times on this Sophmore yet?? I hope he grows another few inches.
Since he was in 9th grade Cobbs has been rumored to be the next “special” Warren WR. Coach Hembree knows talent and Warren has produced a lot of talent the last 10 years. I’ve heard people in Warren think he could be better then Bret Smith. I wonder if WR Shaq Jones Northside, could get an early offer as well?
Jalen,
This is a fun and exciting time in your life.
I hope you sign soon with the Hogs and help them win the National Championship (maybe several).
Best Regards
I know I am a big conspiracy theorist but can someone please explain to me why the only 3 teams in the NCAA tournament whose record has less than 20 wins is either in the ACC (Wake Forest 19-10) or is going to play an ACC team in the first round (Maryland vs Houston 19-15 or Duke vs UAPB 17-15 that is if UAPB wins the play-in game).
And while you’re at it also explain how Georgia Tech (22-12) got in with that dismal performance against #4 Duke and MSU (23-11) was left out with that great OT effort against #2 Kentucky.
Georgia Tech beat Maryland, made it to the Finals in the ACC tourney, and had some other quality ACC wins. The ACC is very balanced this year, but with a lot of good but not great teams. This allowed for a lot of teams with big RPI top 50 wins, even though their record may not have shown it. Houston and UAPB were auto bids. It’s interesting that they both play ACC schools. I think MSU definitely should have made it in. The committee is crazy this year. Look at Maryland and Kansas’s bracket, it is so much tougher than any other bracket out there.
BTW, in basketball I am a Maryland fan first and foremost, Arkansas and Georgetown secondly and thirdly.
So, William & Mary also beat Maryland and they did it on Maryland’s home court and they didn’t get a bid.
Georgia Tech lost to Dayton and Georgia and played no other “top” teams and was only 7-9 in the ACC.
just heard that Peyton Hillis goes to the Browns for Brady Quinn! Hope this means he’s going to get some PT this year.
by “he” I mean Hillis of course. I could care less about Quinn.

OKofcourse, Maryland losing to William and Mary was a bad loss, but finishing 1st in the ACC strongly outweighs that. Also, Georgia Tech getting to the ACC finals is the lone reason they are in the tournament.
Also, I am excited about offering sophomores, hopefully we get some commits soon!
Isaac Brown???????????? Isaac Brown??
Are you freakin’ serious??
Wow!! There we have it folks. We now know the source of two straight years of season ending collapses by our basketball team. We now know the reason for the complete lack of offensive and defensive system for our basketball team. We now know the reason why we were the worst perimeter defensive team known to man. We now know why were are the worst basketball program in the SEC…and got our butts handed to us by the bottom of the SEC barrel by seasons end…again.
Yep that’s right boys…Isaac Brown!!
Man…glad we got rid of that scoundrel.
I hope so too. By the way, I’m not trashing Maryland and I think they should be in. What pisses me off is how the sport’s talking heads wanted and finally got Geo. Tech in from the get go. They would come on the air and say Georgia Tech’s in (end of discussion) and I could not see what they had done. I am sick of suits having that much influence on who gets in or out. These people are paid good money to make fair decisions and every year it turns out like this – politics – and it just makes me sick. It’s just a group of Billie Packard wantabes and they are destroying the tournament for everyone else.
Me too, Ice cream man!!
the committee was crazy this year
Hey everybody, Kind of off topic but Dorial Green (2012 WR prospect 6’5 230 4.4) led his basketball team to the state title last night. He absolutely dominated the final 5 minutes of the game sparking a 10-2 run to take the lead and the win. My school’s first state title since ’84.
Now the bad part–
Right in the middle of the Hillcrest fan section was Mizzou O-Coordinator Dave Yost.
Those measurements or crazy!!!
let’s get this guy!
we’ve offered him a scholly right?
I think they were picking their team and conference favorites and not the teams who deserved to be in and that’s why they always want to expand the tournament.
They will say that there were some other teams who deserved to get in but were lefted out. Oh yeah, then who are they? There are only 65 slots. Why not just name the teams that don’t deserve to get in and throw those rascals out and the people who promoted them but that won’t be done and we will be kept in the dark about it?
This just shows you how corrupt this country’s institutions are because we can’t even choose the best 65 college basketball teams in the country (well a little less because of automatic bids) without justifiable bitterness!
After this tournament let’s all look over who were the real pretenders (teams and conferences) and post away about it and demand change. If we don’t get change then let’s limit the big 6 conferences to just 4 teams a piece until they get it right.
Any new on when Brey will make his choice
i have 2 potential coaches i wouldn’t mind see as the head bball coach: Pat Ewing or that cat that Coach K keeps sending out to do the pre-halftime ESPN talk.
You know that there would be a clearly defined system with a disciplined team that makes their free throws. Completely move away from the 40 minutes of the past and move forward in a new scheme. You would think he would bring a good staff and be a nice pipeline to top tier talent.
Yes, he would be green but well tutored (how many duke players are in the NBA?) And i don’t think it would dissuade the Baby Wings..they might like a new coach with a shiney new contract.
You gotta think that since coach K sends him to do the “face” time that he is essentially giving his endorsement to this guy and thinks he’s ready.
Just like in football we need to start recruiting Memphis and Tulsa. There is no reason we shouldn’t have a pipe line from both of those cities.
Who is Isaac Brown?
He is the cousin of Issac Hayes and James Brown ! LOL
Just kidding. He was the lowest paid asstistant on Pelphrey’s coaching staff.
The coach with the least ammount of responsability and the least to blame for the problems. Who is Issac Hayes? He is the scape goat !
Who is Issac Hayes? I mean’t Issac Brown. Sorry
OKOFCOURSE, I’m not neccesarily disagreeing with you about Georgia Tech, but I’d hardly call their performance against Duke dismal. It was a one point game with less than a minute left. The truth is you could make a strong arguement for and against any of the bubble teams. Look at Va Tech. Very weak non-conference schedule. But they were 10-6 in the ACC, ahead of Wake Forest who VT beat head-to-head. Yet Wake gets in and VT is out. How would Utah St do in the ACC or SEC? Probably wouldn’t be 27-7. Should they be in ahead of Miss St, VT or Illinois? I think you could make a good arguement either way. The thing is, none of those teams would win the tourney. So it’s really just about who deserves the chance to experience the tourney. If that’s the case, go ahead and expand it and give more teams the opportunity to experience it even though they have no real chance to win it.
IMO, it should be left as it is. All those teams left out had their chances. If MSU hadn’t missed 3 key free throws in the last 2 minutes, they’d have won. Or if the refs had called a lane violation on John Wall on that FT they missed on purpose that allowed them to send the game into OT, but that’s another story.
Good size for being only a sophomore? junior?
I think Wake, V.T., and Geo.Tech should be out if MSU isn’t in. Maybe they are keeping MSU out because of “supposed” recruiting violations which can’t be proven and the selection committee is being used as some kind of an arm of the NCAA investigating body. Just a thought.
If you expand the tournament then you will devalue the accomplishment of making the tournament in the first place.
i was suprised that MSU didnt get in fer sher.
MSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama and LSU have jokes for BB programs and have been jokes for years. Anyone who considers them “powers” has no idea of BB history and the BB world. Unfortunately the Hogs are now classified and slopping right along with them. Baylor has now passed us by in BB. Those of you who are clinging to the current coach deserve what you are getting and will get next year.
Here is a video of Mike Leach giving his team the facts!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZaOFTp5_C8
I miss Mike Leach. Yet another victim of today’s PC police. They dont make them like that anymore — rudely honest and downright abrupt.
“Some of you m@#$#$ frickers didnt play a snap last year.” lmao
“F@#$ playing them close, we lost the G– Dang game to the University of Texas and we could have won the mother @#$@#$.”
Wish we had that kind of attitude on our basketball team. Do you think Mike Leach would consider a career change??? Hrmm?
I bet you Mike Leach could win more games next year than John Pelphrey even with no basketball coaching experience.
Question for Jeff Long. How can we aford to keep pelprey as coach? Next year I think we could be off as many as 10,000 fans per game. multiply that out-10,000×14 gamesx$25/game=3.5 million. In addition lost conssesion sales, parking, hotel, restrant, etc. We can aford a big time coach and I think Razorback fans deserve one. thank you.
Auburn fired Lebo, you think CJP will go after Shawn Kemp? I know we’ve offered Kadeem Jack we need a post almost as bad as we need a new coach!
Richard, can we please have a discussion thread for the Arkansas-Pine Bluff play-in game?
Thanks!! I havent watched them all year, but intend to watch them considering they are the only Arkansas team in the NCAA Tourny

they just had to fire the black guy
i agree big boi about going after kemp..
sure would be nice to turn the tables and steal a recruit from them.
PeytonHillisFTW, It was a punk move by CJP firing Issac Brown. Did anybody even know this guy was on staff? I’m sure our gutless AD Jeff Long told CJP he need a sacrificial lamb and CJP gave him this poor S.O.B.
the surprising thing is that this guy was with CJP for 8 years. Needless to say, I don’t expect his firing to make a difference in our win totals next year — which will most likely be dismal, especially if we miss on ratliffe and have another couple transfers.
I bet you Mike Leach could win more games next year than John Pelphrey even with no basketball coaching experience.

another reason no one can take your opinions seriously.

Rob Evans is black also.
Mr.P doing what he does best!
I like it!
should be interesting to see what peyton hillis’ role will be in Cleveland..should get a fair look and i bet he shows up on special teams as well. I’m glad he’s out of the Josh McDaniel mess.
I was thinking a/b which teams will be the worst in the NFL and which one i’d prefer to see Mallett at..
Though i like the thought of Mallett landing in Oakland and igniting DMac’s career, I really hope he does not end up a raider and DMAC can resurface elsewhere.
The Rams will probably draft bradford so that rules them out.
Would Jerry do some crazy draft day trading to land the big gunslinger? I’d like that.
Browns are a possibility and he’d have a former hawg to watch his blindside.
Mr P i guess you dont understand sarcasm. But anyways, Rob Evans may be gone shortly too.
pretty incredible that Pelphrey may have NO PLAYERS left from his 2008 recruiting class if Rotnei and Fortson transfer. utter incompetence.
Dudley just said he now thinks its 50/50 that Fortson comes back next year.
One reason Ricky Scott said he signed with Arkansas was that he was under the impression that Fortson would not return.
are you serious? thats disturbing
That’s what Dudley said a while back on Bo’s show.
Regarding the selection committee and Mississippi State: It really does not matter. Was Miss. St. going to win the tourney? Is Utah State? Is Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech? Nope. There are always George Masons that come along once every four or five years and people always want to point to Villanova or NC State, but the winner of this tournament will most likely be a number one or a number two seed. Everything else is just romanticizing and advertising to make sure they get a good rating. This is why it baffles me that they are seriously going to expand this thing: why? So UNC can get trounced one more time? And expansion will not stop the vitriol of talking heads and coaches who bellyache about which teams did not get in. If anything, they should reduce the number of teams in the tournament to 32, abolish the conference tourneys, and allow conference winners to have automatic bids. If there are any bids left over, then choose at large teams amongst the top 25. I can spot 32 teams in this year’s tournament who don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning it. And I count two who will probably win it, and about 10 who could plausibly win it. Of course, money is the deciding factor, so hey, we might make the expanded field of 96 next year as a number 24 seed. Keep that chin up, fans, the sun is coming out!!!!
Does no one else find it disturbing that we could be trying to convince recruits to come to Arkansas based on contingencies of our best players leaving the team? How is this healthy at all? Is there any wonder this team appears to have no cohesion?
My guess is that Dudley may have said that back when Courtney was thinking about playing on another level, Europe or otherwise.
There is a lot of panic in Hog Nation right now
One rumor
One jokester
All it takes is me saying I heard Powell was leaving and it spreads like wild fire
Who can be the next to post it where it hasn’t been posted? It becomes panic…
Fact is none of us really have a clue. Some may have more insight than others, but we know nothing.
I’d really love a commitment right about now!
DIEHARD, are you saying that the major Arkansas newspapers have it all wrong?
If it’s coming from Wally Hall then I’d say it probably isn’t true.
Well does it make anyone feel better that Clarke was seen down in Hot Springs with Pelphrey taking in Mickelson’s state championship game?
Sounds like the two are looking at their 2011 championship pieces together.
What Rot needs to understand is that he was only a sophomore this year, and that the stars of this team were Fortson, Powell, and himself.
The other players that were supposed to make an impact did not get it done consistently enough to allow those three threats to do reach there maximum potential. Washington and Sanchez were expected to bang on the inside. Wash did that inconsistently (just a nice way of saying he sucked this year) and Sanchez we all know was out with his feet troubles all year.
Welsh and Britt are just not at the level we need. Welsh being gone now will be replaced by the incoming Peterson who had to sit out a year, Nobles who played well as a freshman at times thrust into a role he was not ready for because he was not as prepped as some HS are, and then the two incoming 6 3 guards in Scott and Wade. Now these two are prepped and ready to go. They play big time ball against big time competition and they are tall, long, and defensive minded.
Then there is the addition of Waithe as a big 3/4 combo player, and Farmer returning for his final year after underwhelming in his first year after transferring to Arkansas from JUCO.
The last thing that could truly comfort Powell, Fortson, and Clarke is if Pelphrey can get Ratliffe to sign with the Hogs, and things apparently look good.
The writer for his JUCO has tweeted and written a few things over the months saying his prediction is that Ratliffe will go to Arkasnas, because Arkansas keeps popping up and that Ratliffe could be a star right away. AGREED!
Ratliffe and Powell on the inside. Sounds like a good combo right? Think Clarke will get some open kick outs with those guys around?
So all those things considered, and also taking into account that there was an almost identical rumor last year about Clarke transferring has me thinking it is just a rumor. Hoping so at least.
Fortson I do not believe is going anywhere, and I remember the Scott comment people brought up but I still have not heard anything solid on that or heard it for myself. I even have read and seen an interview where Scott said he couldn’t wait to play with Fortson and a player like Fortson is exciting to be teammates with. So I don’t know what to believe there.
I have read nothing froM wally hall on this whole debacle. most of the info came from Whole Hog Sports
Why is everyone so sure that we wouldn’t be better off without Fortson. He does have talent but reminds me of Iverson in the way that he wants his. He may have just been trying to do all he could since he didn’t have much talent around him which made him appear to be a selfish player. There are still so many rumors about this team not getting along and also the coaching staff not getting along that some of it must hold some merit. I hope once Fortson gets more options around him it will prevent some of the ridiculous drives he makes but only time will tell.
“Why is everyone so sure that we wouldn’t be better off without Fortson”
I feel stupid even having to answer this question…but hrmm, lets see. Without Fortson this year we lost several games to mid-majors in a row. We also most likely would have had a conference record worse than LSU’s without Fortson.
Fortson has proven talent on the college level. If Pelphrey can’t coach him up to improve on his weak areas then I guess we are screwed, but to think that incoming freshmen point guard would come in and have more of an impact than Fortson– well theres only a very slim chance of that happening.
Fortson’s press conference statements following the season ending loss were that this season was a disappointment and that he was ready to get to work and to improve for next year. i hope that has not changed in less than a week
that was just a press conference. nothing else.
Just heard Dudley say on Bo’s show that Ratliffe is through taking visits and all indications are that he’ll be playing with his good friend Marshawn Powell next year.
So are there any papers that said Rotnei has decided he is transferring? Because most of what I read is speculation.
Don’t think for a minute that because it is written by a sports writer that it must be accurate. True they are more reliable than a message board, but at the same time they are wrong plenty.
If they knew it wouldn’t be speculation, and we all fear the worse. That sells.
Dudley also said he’s pretty certain that Rot is coming back and that this has been blown out of proportion.
The Slophouse reported about 40 minutes ago that Clark will meet with Pelphrey today to discuss his future. So there must be a hint of truth to the rumors. Hopefully they will come out today and solidify his future with the razorbacks and put an end to all the speculating.
Yeah Ratliffe is going to look good in that Razorback red.
Guys if we do land him this is huge!
Ratliffe, Scott, Wade, and Waithe is a dynamic class. All four are extremely talented.
These players also fit the needs. I know many still think we need a true Center, but I have not seen Pelphrey even recruit one so he must not agree.
LAHog when the report came out about the rumor with Clarke it was said that he had his meeting with Pelphrey this week, and that the meeting is something that every player and Pelphrey do following the season.
Let’s cross our fingers and hope he stays a Hog and that this is all just rumors like last year.
Just from a numbers standpoint, having 13 scholarships, means that if Ratliffe or some other person does sign with the hogs then one of the current players can’t be on scholarship. That could easily be Sanchez. But as of right now, they have 13 projected for next year. I think that also means that if everyone stayed, there would only be two available scholarships next year, and that is the year we need at least three and four would be even better.
Boubalos,
I am not sure about how the Scholies will work out for 2010, but I am pretty sure that four players will graduate (Britt, Sanchez if he is here for 2010, Farmer, and Johnson) making room for the 2011 class.
Wasn’t Borden from last year a true center? And has anyone heard anything about how he is doing in JUCO?
Blake, you are correct, and also Peterson, the guard from Iowa should only have one year.
I thought I heard Biddy or one of those guys say Arkansas has decided to go a different direction in regards to Borden. or i may be confused
Richard have you heard anything about when Ratliffe may make his decision?
Him canceling his other visits seems like a good sign, and everybody seems to be putting a must-get label on Ratliffe for Pelphrey.
PHFTW,
I think you misunderstood my post. I agree Fortson almost single handed won several games for us we would not have won otherwise and is gifted beyond anyone else we have on campus currently. I was really talking about team chemistry and leadership. I hope you don’t feel so stupid now.
“I know many still think we need a true Center, but I have not seen Pelphrey even recruit one so he must not agree.”
lol Blake, thats like the harshest criticism ive ever heard you give on Pelphrey. I’ll be convinced when Pelphrey shows that our team can rebound and block shots without a true center and win games, and not until then.
The quote I read from Scott was that he was told to get ready to play the point in case Fortson didn’t come back. At that time we didn’t know if he would be back this year or ever. I think it was and is an eligibility concern as much as anything else.
RKV, i believe you are right.
