Junior forward Devonta Abron was hoping to make an unofficial visit to Arkansas last weekend but was unable to make the trip.
Abron, 6-7, 215 Dallas Seagoville hopes to visit Arkansas next week while on spring break to learn more about the Razorback program. He led the Class 4A schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in scoring and rebounding with 24.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game to go along with 2.7 blocks a contest.
Arkansas, Texas A&M and Florida International have offered scholarships while West Virginia, Marquette, Arizona, Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and others are showing interest.
“I like the way the way the play,” said Abron, who shot 50 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the three-point line. “I’m looking to see if I fit their system. I play inside and out. It depends what the team needs. I can step out to the three-point line.”
Seagoville coach Charles Brooks said Abron is very competitive.
“When the lights come on, he’s ready to go.” Brooks said.
Abron, who has visited Texas A&M and plans to visit Florida International, primarily played center for the Dragons but does have the ability to go outside if needed.
“I play inside and out,” said Abron, who reports a 34-inch vertical. “It depends what the team needs. I can step out to the three-point line.”
Brooks believes Abron will focus his talents in the paint in the future.
“I think in college he’s probably going to be a four,” Brooks said. “He could possibly play the three. The thing about the three is that he would have to defend the three too. That maybe a little more athletically than what he’s capable. Offensively, he could step out there as a three but defensively he would have to play a four. He can probably take most kids off the dribble unless that kid is very, very athletic.
Abron, who will play for the Dallas Mustangs in the Real Deal in the Rock tournament in Little Rock in April, said he’s spoken to assistant coach Rob Evans.
“He said they like the way I play and he wants to get me up there to check out the place.” said Abron.

Baseball update: Ark 2 UWM 1 Top of 4th
Hey i like the kids coach. Sounds pretty straight forward when your coach just comes right out and says hey he can’t defend a 3 so you better make him a 4 for him to help ya. A lot of times a High School Coach will just say whatever it takes to get their kid a scholly.
i agree a/b the coach..seems to understand how players will project and can only imagine he’ll work to improve his weaknesses. Also any kid that leads the dallas area in anything is alright in my book.
We need a center in the worst way.
Has anyone else heard that Ratliffe has cancelled his three remaining official visits?
Richard have you heard about this?
So far Arkansas and Bama are the two officials he has taken, and he is really close to Florida and they have persued him hard. He made it known he wants to start right away. The Hogs could 100% guarantee that with Washington graduating.
Ratliffe come be a Hog!!
WOO PIG SOOIE!!
I would love to see Radliffe and another big man coming in but I think we have a real problem with Fortson. I hate it because I like him and I love what he COULD do for us, but I believe he is a cancer in the locker room and on the floor (when it comes to TEAM). He is going to have to go if we are to move forward, unfortunately. I don’t think you can take the spots off of the leopard
