interesting, what other schools has he visited
OMG this is huge!!!
Guys you need to come out to this last game and show the Hogs support.
We need to land Ratliff more than anything for next season!!!!
EVERYBODY needs to be chanting RICARDO’S name ALL GAME LONG SATURDAY!!! He is the missing piece to the puzzle!! #1 JUCO Player in the Country!!!
He is the #1 Juco player. He is a big inside presence and scorer.
He broke is Juco’s scoring record in a year and half or something like that.
Bud Walton needs to be rockin!
Bring your signs out with Ricardo’s picture on them letting him know how much Arkansas wants and needs him.
If we get Ratliff to go with Waithe, Scott, and Wade for next year LOOK OUT!
I think people will be lovin Pelphrey, and then if we lock up that 2011 class. YAYA! The Hogs will be back.
YES SIR!
This is his first official visit. He told our staff last summer that Arkansas would get the first visit.
Good sign; that said, this will be a battle.
***fingers crossed***
This is GREAT news!!! I hope the crowd shows some love on Saturday.
The crowd HAS to show love.
If you want the Razorbacks to get back, Ratliff is a must get.
I understand the Hogs have had their struggles last year, and this year.
But Bud Walton needs to be rocking. This is a huge visit. Huge…
I think we need like 20 stories written about this.. or maybe 100..or maybe..
get on it blake
Oh you know it!
Student section needs to make se signs!
WE NEED THE WHOLE CROWD CHANTING HIS NAME!!! MAKE HIM FEEL WANTED!!!
This is the biggest recruit we have had in a while!!!!! The crowd will make a HUGE IMPACT on his decision!!! LETS GO RICARDO!!!
Pel’s success or lack thereof at Arkansas may come down to getting his signature. Next season, without Ratliffe, doesn’t look any better than the past couple of seasons. With Ratliffe, 20+ wins become possible.
Razorod I agree with you 100%.
I think the Hogs will be better next year with our underclassmen all being experienced and having some time under their belt.
But more than anything I think the recruits we have signed this year will be big impacts. Scott, Waithe, and Wade.
But the area we MUST address is Washington leaving, and getting someone to bang on the inside with Powell.
And that is Ratliffe. He is a must-get!
What happens if Powell goes to the NBA after this year?
RD what football recruits are coming up Saturday?
then we are screwed BB, but I dont think thats really an option for Powell. I dont think he would get drafted very high.
Woooah!
Lets not go down that road yet. You could give many of us heart attacks talking about Powell leaving.
We need Powell and Clarke to return, and would love for Fortson to return as well. There have been rumors Fortson may leave, but I have never seen anything solid for those rumors.
But if he did leave I feel more comfortable with Nobles, Patterson, Scott, and Wade all able to handle the point.
It is Powell and Ratliffe that can change the dynamic of this team.
Powell will be back, he’s not ready just yet. Ratliffe visit is huge, need to get to BWA this weekend if you can…
Ratliffe needs the Wingo treatment folks! More posts online about him, signs, more stories written on him, the works.
People need to know who he is, and what he could mean for this basketball team.
what do you mean by the “Wingo treatment”?
do you remember the reports of how fans were when Wingo visited Arkansas?
At the basketball game there was posters of him everywhere.
The problem for Powell is that Ky alone has 3 players that would be drafted before him. I would be totally stunned if he put his name in the hat after this year.
He will be back next season. The bigger issue is with Fortson returning(in good standing) along with getting Ratcliff’s signature. If both happen, then we will have a balanced team for the first time in over a decade. Both inside offense/defense along with perimeter offense. Heath’s teams had the inside game but zero outside. Pel has outside, but limited to only Powell and Washington(on occasion).\
Best case senerio, for next season will be 25+wins and west div champs, sweet 16 and beyond. JMO.
We are getting much bigger on the perimeter with Scott and Wade both much bigger and taller guards than what we have now.
So our 3 point D should be much better with them in the game.
Waithe likes to play outside as well so he could match up nicely guarding someone smaller than him.
Ratliffe still is the missing piece though. We really need someone to bang on the inside with Powell.
This kid could make a big difference in the future of our program. You want him Arkansas, go to the game on saturday and show him some love.
Ratliffe will be a star right away at Arkansas.
How tall is Ratliffe? 6’8″? Would love to see him in a Razorback uniform, but our team still on the short side if CJP can’t find a center.
It is gonna take more than Ratliffe to fill in the missing pieces on THIS basketball team. I saw more balls hitting the RIM than the net in these last few games.
it will take more than ratliffe obviously. he may somewhat replace Washington’s absence. that leaves us right where we left off. its funny how everybody always expects every recruit to work out each year, when in fact there are only 1 or 2 that have an immediate impact in each class, for the rest it takes a while, and sometimes they never have a positive impact or get lost in the shuffle.
Ratliffe and Powell on the inside.
Players like Clarke, Fortson, Waithe, Scott, Wade, Farmer, Patterson, Nobles, Britt on the outside.
Johnson, Byrant, and Sanchez (if he can get back healthy) helping out on the inside. And Waithe also can help on the inside. I have seen him listed as 6 8 or 6 9.
Roger,
Ratliffe is the missing piece to this class. I know Pel is looking at some other inside help, but he is a beast.
Waithe averages 17 pts a game at his Juco.
Wade averages around 17 points a game at Hargrave which is 26-0.
Scott is the leading scorer for all of the Dallas/Forth Worth area.
Ratliffe is the top Juco player in the nation, he broke his Juco’s scoring record in like a year and a half, and he averages 27 points and 11 rebounds per game.
Ratliffe is better than Washington.
So lose Washington but add Ratliffe and that is a net plus.
Lose Welsh but add Scott and that is a net plus.
Then add Waithe and Wade as well and it is a definite net plus.
That is two guards listed at 6 3, and two forwards listed at 6 9.
Big Boi YOU need to SHUT UP!…About Powell leaving early you are the first ignorent person to bring that up! First of all Powell doesnt have the NBA Size at 6’7 he needs to devolope his outside shot another year or two before anybody say a “STUPID” thing like YOU just said BIG NON HOG FAN!!!A.K.A Big Boi…?
Rodney, you need to take some Prozac dude
As i said Blake, some are expecting every single recruit to contribute right away. thats not going to happen. think about Jamaal Farmer this year.
It just takes some longer than others to adjust to college competition, even the very few ones that do, like Powell, can struggle with consistency.
Farmer was not as highly ranked or heralded as the recruits of this year.
Whoa, lots of hysteria on the board today….it looks like we need him, but did I see someone say 25 wins and the Sweet 16? How about we just qualify for ANY tournament?
Blake, i think he was def as highly heralded. I remember it was all the local recruiting gurus could talk about, his raw potential.
I was really excited about him, but not like these guys.
He only has one more year so maybe he can reach that hype in his final season.
I do know what you are saying. Look at North Carolina. They have nothing but All Americans and they are sucking something serious. They are 5-10 in the ACC.
So yeah maybe a 2010 recruit could be a bust, but I am going to look at their size, ppg, rbg, and all that could stuff for now and assume the best.
Wade and Scott are said to be two great defenders and floor leaders. I don’t care if they are freshman or not. If they can school Fortson and Clarke I am all for them replacing them.
Same goes for anybody on this team, and in 2011 if we are able to bring in the top notch recruits we are after I say the same thing.
Look at KY this year. Cal is using some of what was left him, but if it wasn’t for the star freshman that team would be the same KY of the last few years.
It does not take long to make a turnaround when you get the right players in uniform, and I think these 2010 players are the right ones. Much more than I had any feeling about the 2009 players other than Powell, or the 2008 players.
Blake, i hope for all the world that you are right and i am wrong about next year.
im tired of being disappointed by our basketball team.
It just takes some longer than others to adjust to college competition, even the very few ones that do, like Powell, can struggle with consistency.
By PeytonHillisFTW on Mar 4, 2010
Well said, we can’t get ahead of ourselves.Hopefully everyone makes their grades and incoming freshman can adjust to the higher level of play they will encounter.
Im sorry PeytonHillisFTW… But I get tired of these “SO CALLED” Arkansas fans talking about our star players going PRO Premature!!! Talk about Alabama,LSU, or Ole Miss’s players going pro if… YOU CALL YOURSELF A RAZORBACK FAN!
I don’t think we need to get upset about it, because I think we can all agree that not 1 player on this team is ready for the pros.
Not even pro basketball in Antartica
**Antarctica
Settle down Rodney. That’s Powell’s decision.
powell and ratcliffe played together in the past so we got that going for us and he wants to play immediately plus he’s been quoted as saying he could see him and marshawn being a “force” down low.
we not only need a racous crowd but a solid win. Lock up 2nd in the West, get a 1st round bye, and finish 8-8. I’ll take it and i like our chances of getting all of it done.
Yeah 8-8 in conference is better than anyone predicted. Most people said we would be lucky to get to 7 wins.
A very BIG piece to PEL’s puzzle. The Razorbacks win 20 next year, without Ratcliffe, in my opinion. With him…
Fans need to show this kid some love.
Here is a link to some very good info on Ricardo.
http://arkansas.scout.com/2/951175.html
hopefully Powell will help get him here, just wishing.
thanks Ron, good info.
I’ve seen both Waithe and Ratliffe play online several games. Both are real good. I worry about Ratliffe having most of his game on the inside and only being 6’8″. But he is strong and seems to power around people.
Waithe is a cool customer. When you watch him he seems to know everything that’s going on on the court. Very smart basketball IQ I think. He has a funky looking shot but he’s actually a dang good shot even from 3 land. And he’s all that 6’9″ with a wing span of at least a 7 footer I think.
Both run the court well. Ratliffe hustles out there too. I never saw him just jog back down to play D…he was always running.
So I think both would help Arkansas right away and both would be starters. I actually think Waithe might have more potential just because he seems more versatile. He reminds me of Todd Day a bit…while Ratliffe is more under the Corliss mode and build.
Wouldn’t that be great if they turned out as good. Heck I’d take half as good as those two.
I agree Ratliff is a “must get” recruit, but I think the improvement of next season’s squad remains solidly in the hands of Courtney Fortson.
We could have a ton of talent on this team, but it wouldn’t make that much difference if the “star” PG always does what he wants.
Sooner or later, Courtney has to make more consistant decision making on the court.
So far, he hasn’t shown he can do it off the court, so it really shouldn’t be that big of a suprise that he doesn’t do it on the court either.
There’s seems to be something about these new guards coming in that makes me think CJP is recruiting just as much for character as he is talent. Less attitude.
Also, when those kids were being recruited, they both mentioned something about Fortson possibly not being there. That message could have been taken 2 ways; Courtney going pro or being dismissed from the team.
To be perfectly honest about it, I think that issue could still very well go either way.
Most of you probably don’t want to hear this, but it wouldn’t suprise me a bit to see Courtney move on after this season. Maybe not the NBA, but there’s plenty of organizations in Europe that would sign him in a heartbeat.
If his decision making is still that suspect, why wouldn’t he go?
this teams success will hinge on quality point guard play, with less turnovers
That was my point, Peyton.
Darn, Powell didn’t know there was a pro league until he read it here. Someone who made an “off-the-cuff” statement and doesn’t know Powell will not influence his decision.
Fortson has to be better at passing off on the drive or his teammates have to “show” themselves and not become spectators watching Courtney. As the seaso has worn on he has become too predictable. Is he single minded or are the others standing around?
Tired of seeing the back of 12 and 14 as opponets beat them off the drive and score or dish off for an uncontested shot.
Good point, Captain Reality. Fortson is a take charge kind of guy, but probably too much at times.
These kids have to be on the same page to become sucsessful next season. So far, they just don’t look like they have a lot of confidence in one another. Pelphrey has to find a remedy for that.
Against Tennessee we would throw up a three pointer and not have anyone at all inside to rebound, but Tennessee always seemed to have players in the post to rebound after they shot threes.
That’s the difference. The Tennessee players know what their PG is doing at all times on the court (shooting 3s) and vise versa. We obviously haven’t figured that part out yet, otherwise, I’d like to think our inside guys wouldn’t be caught off guard and out of position so much. There seems to be no connection/communication from one play to the next. Street ball at it’s finest.
I hope no one thinks i’m being too judgemental of Courtney on this issue. He seems to be a real smart kid, but I question his ability to accept disiplinary coaching.
If think if he can get past that and grow up a little, he’ll really be something to see with even more talent surrounding him.
If he can’t get past those personal issues, well then like I said, get ready for the next guy to come in.
you are right to be careful in your criticism of Courtney, considering that without him our record in conference play over the last 2 years could easily be ZILCH wins!
You know I’m not sure but if Nobles progresses nicely he might even be a better option for the TEAM in the coming years. Nobles is a decent defender and seems to always look pass first. He also has a decent outside shot. Coming in and having to be our “Courtney” right off the bat as a Freshman isn’t easy and I think he did a decent job. But he may have more potential as a distributor than Courtney as time goes on….which is better for the team.
Oh and Miss St. is getting a good JUCO player as well…coincidently a PG. Wish we were getting him. His name is Bryan Bryant. I watched his team play Ratliffe’s or Waithe’s team…can’t remember which. But he was very very good…and a taller PG..like 6’3″.
Whoever gave that link to the panhandle JUCO basketball leagues that was great. I’ve watched several games on there (all free) and got to see these two great players Arkansas is in line for. So thanks to whoever did that awhile back.
I have heard more than one of the local talk radio guys say that Courtney has said all along that he would only be hear 2 years and then go pro somewhere, so chances are he won’t be here next year. I also heard that was why we let Peterson transfer in, so we would have an experienced point guard ready next year.
Here’s my take on Courtney. I believe he has more control on the court the CJP would prefer.
Pelphrey knows he has to win games to keep the fanbase motivated to attend game, while at the same time bit the bullett on Courtney’s discrepencies.
When things are flowing good on the court and shots are falling, he looks incredible, but when things aren’t, he still tries to force the issue a lot of times, making the team’s situation even worse.
In other words, by CJP being forced to go with his best playmaker, who is still young and still learning, either really helps us or really hurts us. There seems to be no inbetween.
Also, our current depth players are still too young to be 100% dependable.
I’ve seen flashes of good defense from this team at times this season. I didn’t see that last season.
That makes me believe the depth on this squad at the PG, SG and SF/Wing positions next season, will lead to a better overall defense.
If we land Ricardo Ratliff, that will be icing on the cake. He played with Marshawn Powell in high school, and CJP has some pretty good ties in the state of Florida. Hopefully, that, and with the promise of early playing time, it’ll be enough to land him.
Yeah in an article someone posted Ratliffe stated he was going to a school where he could go in and start. He mentioned Arkansas as one of his favorites because he knew he could go in and take Washington’s place. Sounds like he and Powell have already been talking about it. He also mentioned that he thought it would be great to play along side of Powell and that they could rule down low together.
With that said…I guess we have a great shot at him. I’m worried about Mizzou and Bama being after him though.
I have lost a lot of faith in Fortson. There was a column recently talking about how he “relished” having all eyes on him and so forth.
In my opinion, that is exactly where a good part of the problem with this team lies. All eyes, many times including the players, seem to be on Fortson. As I recall, relish goes pretty well with hotdogs.
If the kid is not coachable or a distraction, and it appears to me that he falls into both categories, then lets get someone at the point who can play team ball and get these other guys involved.
In any event, Ratcliffe would be a huge addition and missing piece to the puzzle.
Nobles will never be able to see the court the way that Fortson does in my opinion and I have never seen him make the “wow” passes that I have seen Fortson hit.
ratliffe has mentioned nothing about Pelphrey when talking about reasons to come to Arkansas, mentioned nothing especially about Pelphreys ties to Florida. He does talk a lot about his connection to Marshawn Powell though and the possibility to start right away.
Lets not try to twist facts.
Nobles will never be able to see the court the way that Fortson does in my opinion and I have never seen him make the “wow” passes that I have seen Fortson hit.

True Peyton. But that’s just it. I’m starting to wonder whether just a decent distributor…good defender…steady pass first, low Turnover guard might be better overall than the flashy “wow” passing, forced shots, turnover machine that is Fortson. In the long run that is.
If not Nobles then maybe someone else who can give stability to the position. This year Fortson was a necessity…but it was feast or famine. Thus so was the team. But to be successful we don’t need him or his style to be our necessity. We need enough scorers so that Fortson…or whoever…can concentrate more on getting them the ball instead of trying too hard to takeover a game.
Maybe with Ratliffe, Waithe, Powell, and Clarke in the lineup this is the scoring punch needed for our PG to concentrate on just being a PG. Would Courtney be able to change his mindset even if he did have more weapons?? I don’t know.

Absolutely right. At least from what I’ve read.
Hey guys, Sorry for being gone so long. I couldn’t get online from my hospital bed. I hope to contribute a little more n the near future.
Lots of great comments here about Ratliffe.
Blake, your in overdrive my friend !
I will simply say that Richardo Ratliffe will make this class! ! ! If we don’t get him I dont see us being able to have much of an inside game (offensively or defensively) til a good big man does come along.
Lock him up Pelphrey !
Guys you seem to forget Peterson. He led Iowa in his two seasons as their PG.
If anyone is interested Marvell Waithe led his team to the Finals of the Florida JUCO tournamet tonight. Waithe had 27 points, was 7/14 from the field including 3/6 from 3pt line and 10/14 from FT line. Oh he also had 10 rebounds and looked very good.
Finals are tomorrow. Good luck Marvell!!
this thing with fortson would not be a issue if arkansas would have had him the first 14 games because like him or not when you watch he turns it over in the paint trying to get the ball to his inside players. sometimes losing makes everyone only see the negatives which winnings cures. against lsu he hit 10 passes to the open guy who didnt make the shot 6 went to clarke.yes he is the quarterback of the basketball team and like football he gets the blame for loses and the credit for wins.if ark had consistent scorers who could knock down open shots or just catch the ball in traffic his turnovers would drop.I played and coached junior high school basketball and know that loses make everyone look at all the negatives in your team.as fans if your team is losing no one ever watch whats really happening they start out looking for someone to blame in basketball that is your pg. without fortson arkansas would be like lsu with 1 conf win this season. with fortson next season and added scorers on the floor hopefully ratliff to go with scott, peterson waite and wade and clarke you will see why even on this team fortson is the talk and focus of the opposing teams.ark has 14 wins with court all season we would already have more thaan 20 and looking at a tourney bid. so if this upset some of you my opionion that is thats to bad but arkansas not having strong reserves to start the season with all the problems this team has had we shouild all be proud to be hog fans because a few more wins over the last couple weeks everyone of the fare weather fans that get on these boards would be behind our team not down talking them like you are now.BWA was empty until our team won a few games then fare weather fans decide to go to the games.if you where fans and true supportes of the hogs you would go support them not wait to see if you can talk bad about the team and its coaches.
WOW-Passes WOW-turnovers and shooting 30%. Maybe we could use a point guard who makes ordinary passes extraordinarily well. Still question if the Arkansas players “show” well to give Fortson a viable option???
