  1. Blake Blake says:

    Richard,

I listened to these and am pleased to hear what he had to say about Jacoby Walker. I hear so many people say he is going to move, and hey he may change positions. But Lemming is high on him, and also the way that Petrino talked about our “new quarterback” and his character on signing day make me feel very good about him.

I found some old highlights of his. They say 2007 but may be 2008. That is some talent. He is under pressure a lot, but steps up in the pocket or avoids the pressure. I like what I am seeing a lot from these old highlights!

  2. Blake Blake says:

    Richard one quick question.

What did Lemming rank our class? I heard on the segment he was asked why he ranked us so high, but I cannot seem to find the rank anywhere.

here’s what scout said a/b our class…i like the “boring” comment

  4. dwp007 dwp007 says:

Great audio with Tom Lemming, as well as his previous ranking of the Razorback class, of which he said was in the top 20, overall. Historically, imo, this guy knows a real racehorse when he sees one ;)

  5. Blake Blake says:

yeah he had us ranked the 15th best class last year and in the audio he said this year was a better class

  6. tomt58 tomt58 says:

After reading about walt, I checked out his web site. Now I know that i’m no speeling champ or english major, but his web site had many errors in it and did not look professional. I have not put my finger on it yet, but something does not feel right about promoting HS kids like that.

I remember a kid from Clarksville, 5 star QB (i think), whos parents were one of the first to send out recruiting tapes. He turned out to be a flop.

I know i’m changing subject, but i read somewhere we have only signed two five stars (mcfadden, mustang) I can’t remember guys name, but he could throw it a mile and was from Clarksville AR, transfered from Arkansas. I thought He was five star? Does anyone else remember.

  7. Lamar Lamar says:

You are probably talking about Landon Leach and not he was not a 5 star recruit. Scout has him listed as a 2 star.

  8. tomt58 tomt58 says:

    thanks tchog,

I just found it in an article. Gary and Cedric signed in the same class, and both were Parade All-Americans. Was that before they started the star rating?

  9. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

    Tomt58,

I’m not sure if the star rating was there back in 1999, but you missed Darius Winston in last years class.

  10. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Here’s the link to the Pinnacle Preps website you were talking about:

    http://www.pinnaclepreps.com/RecruitingServices.html

  11. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I haven’t made up my mind one way or the other yet, but I’m not getting a good feeling off this guy, Walt Williams.
I know he’s supposed to be a so-called Hog fan and everything, but there is some evidence to the contrary.

To brashly and publically throw stones at Petrino in the past, on a message board named TigerDroppings.com on 1 day, while also talking up the endeavors of Auburn’s football program on another day, leaves me sitting here wondering if there’s a snake slithering somewhere in the grass.
I have little doubt Walt tries to direct the attention of clients/recruits to certain programs, and his favorite coach just happens to be Gus Malzahn.

This guy probably isn’t cheap either. Most of his clients are Families with recruits that attend private institutions. People with money.

If there was ever a case of mixing business with friendship, this is probably it.

  12. interesting take from harbach — ” Fans should never be upset with the young men that choose to pledge four or five years of their lives to your alma mater, but this class is not what Razorback fans could have expected in Petrino’s third year. It is obviously the weakest of his first three classes “

  13. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

What makes it even more interesting is that Bob Lemmings take was completely the opposite of Harbach.
I don’t believe we’ll ever get a clear cut picture on this recruiting class. At least not for a few more years anyway.

If this class exceeds all the “experts” evaluations, and comes out strong, there will be plenty of excuses and praise directed toward CBP and the reasoning behind it.
If the class just simply doesn’t pan out, they will just simply say “we told you so”.
I’m not buying into “the SEC and the Big East aren’t the same” theory on this one.
These recruits are bigger and faster than any class CBP ever had at Louisville, so I’m sure with the talent level being even better, CBP and these recruits will be just fine, even in the SEC.

the latest Texan we’ve offered according to arkansassports360.com , and if you read their article on him you’ll be happy to see that he has been a long time hawg fan. Looks like a stud on the video.

  15. Blake Blake says:

lemming hits the road and meets all these kids as he explained. Harbach has groups of scouts do a lot of it and is much less personal and hands on than lemming. so you be the judge. who is right?

  16. Andrew Andrew says:

I looked up the new Texan we offered on Scout.com, PK. He’s a 4* guy with great instincts, aggressiveness, and toughness. But it says that he has an issue with discipline…

  17. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

    By PeytonHillisFTW on Feb 9, 2010 @ 10:28pm

PeytonHillisFTW, there are a lot of people saying that this recruiting class may be the BEST that we have had, including our head football coach! So for you to say that this class is “obviously the weakest of his first three classes” just shows that you are one of the many people who do not have a mind of your own. You don’t look at our needs, and the measurables of these kids, instead, you get on Rivals and Scout and look to see how many stars they have by their name.

Do you realize that we have 9 players in this class that were rated 5.7? That is one tenth of a point away from being a FOUR STAR recruit! Do you really believe there is a perfect scoring system or something? These kids are scored by humans and according to them are one tenth of a point from being your coveted FOUR STAR recruits. If they are off on those points, then we have 12 4* recruits which would be rated the 10th best class in the nation. Our coaches rated these guys higher than the recruiting services did, and that is why they are Razorbacks. Do us all a favor and stay off the star watch, and watch some game footage of these kids!

  18. blu3tick blu3tick says:

bigdaddy d, Peyton was just posting a quote from another article…

Anyways, I also am looking forward to seeing what Jacoby Walker can do.. He sounds like a very gifted athlete..

  19. tomt58 tomt58 says:

    gonxohog,

His package deals are from 3000 down. He is not real bright in his pricing. If you look at it the difference in pricing is just the number of schools he sends the tape to. Not many kids are interested in a 100 schools.

    http://www.pinnaclepreps.com/Packages.html

    I did forget about Winston.

  20. joey joey says:

who would you prefer to start b. mitchell or j. walker?

  21. bigdaddy, apparently you dont know how to read an entire post before you flip your top.

who would you prefer to start b. mitchell or j. walker?

    By joey on Feb 10, 2010 @ 7:34am

    Whoever performs the best.

  23. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

    tomt58,

I see your point about the pricing. Seems a little overboard to me.
I understand that the more schools you send tape to, the more exposure a recruit would recieve, but a 100?
The only thing I can figure out on that reasoning, would be the smaller schools being an option for the recruit, if not very many of the bigger schools decided not to offer. That way, the recruit would still have a number of options to choose from. Who knows?

  24. Big Boi Big Boi says:

Rivals just released their 250 to watch in 2011. Only two Arkansas kids made it. Here is the link

    http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=880&Year=2011&ra_key=2602

  25. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

Okay, obviously I’ve missed something. What’s the big controversy over this Pinnacle Preps thing? Did something happen with one of the Arkansas recruits or something? Is the guy directing recruits to certain schools? Are coaches involved in this? Sounds a little bit like like AAU in basketball; and it sounds a lot like high school kids signing with an “agent”; but I don’t know what has really been going on.

  26. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Now I understand why some of the other big out-of-state programs are offering our best in-state kids before we do.
With this kind of promotion, the kids get even more early exposure, compared to them relying on the coaches to promote them with their connections and phone calls.
Like it or not, I think we’re seeing a glimpse of the future with our best in-state recruits.
The only problem I see with this, is the recruits who don’t have access to money, will be the ones with less exposure, stars and a chance for a better national ranking with big boys.
Just like everything else these days, it’ll all be about how much money you already have, and who you know because of that. Awesome.

  27. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

Thanks for the link Big Boi. It’s not surprising that only two would make it. Law of averages says it should be a little higher, but I don’t think some of these recruiting services research Arkansas very well. They’ve probably seen some video tapes of a few of the guys and that’s about it. I don’t really know though.

I think Frazier and Cook are going to be on every list there is, and they will be 4* or 5* guys (probably 4*). There are a couple others that probably will be on some of the other lists (Scout, ESPN, Max, etc.).

There are several on the Rivals list that are interested in Arkansas, so we’ll see how it goes. Long way to NSD 2011.

  28. Thanks for the link BB. Here is the schools listed for Kiehl Frazier

    – Kiehl Frazier

    Oklahoma State
    Texas
    Tulsa
    Vanderbilt
    Western Michigan

  29. Tyler Tyler says:

    Ouch, Western Michigan…

  30. Lewis Lewis says:

Have you guys realized that everything about this 2010 class could possibly be for not, if Byran Jones and Calvin Barnett do not qualify. Myself and others have asked several times if anyone had a feel for their possibility of qualifying. This whole class goes to nothing almost if we don’t get these two guys, so again I ask does anyone have an opinion or direct information related to these guys elgibility?

  31. Tyler Tyler says:

Chris Low ranks us 4th on his new SEC power rankings behind Alabama, Florida, and LSU.
“Watch out for the Hogs in 2010. And really watch out for them if some of the younger players on defense grow up and play more consistently. Arkansas still isn’t going to be able to win every game 41-38. But with quarterback Ryan Mallett returning along with his arsenal of playmakers, the Hogs should be the most explosive offense in the league. Mallett will also be better equipped to operate against some of the better defenses now that he’s been through the league one time.”
    http://espn.go.com/blog/sec
    I like the praise.

  32. yeah, poor western michigan, dont think they will be able to recruit any four stars they go after.

  33. Blake Blake says:

Hey guys on my websites network there are a bunch of writers for other teams all over. A guy from Nebraska wrote a pretty good article today.

    Check it out

    http://betteroffred.fantake.com/2010/02/09/spread-the-beginning-of-the-end/

  34. bigdaddy d bigdaddy d says:

PeytonHillis, it was late, my bad. Assume I meant that for the other gloom artists.

  35. Blake Blake says:

Hey when are Junior Day’s and all those events coming up??

  36. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

Here’s something else Chris Low just said:

“…I had LSU No. 3 in my SEC power rankings and Arkansas No. 4, but I thought long and hard about putting the Hogs No. 3. I just want to see that defense improve for myself before I hype them too much.”

Schlabach had the Hogs the 3rd best in the conference and 15th in the nation. I have to admit that I agree with Chris Low on this one. This season will be determined on whether our defense can stop anyone.

  37. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

Oh wait, I don’t agree that LSU should be ahead of us though. I think they’re going in the tank this year! I just agree that I want to see the defense improve before we hype them up too much.

  38. Blake Blake says:

Yeah I see Alabama and Arkansas atop the SEC this year. The East is going to be down and an OK team like SC or GA may be able to steal it from the Gators. But the Gators could be even better with a real QB. So we will just have to see how it all shakes out.

I agree that our D is what needs to be more sound and improved for us to make this big splash. I think we can get it done.

  39. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

Blake, I read the article on Better Off Red. Good read. I remember seeing something last year that talked about Petrino’s offense and how it will start dominating because defenses are being built to stop the Spread. Petrino still uses a balanced attack that uses the power running game in conjunction with the Spread principles. Hopefully, that comes to pass as predicted. CBP is considered an offensive genius because he is an innovator and seems to stay ahead of defensive schemes. I look forward to seeing the twists he comes up with using the Pistol Formation this season.

  40. Blake Blake says:

ArmyHog I am right there with you.

Petrino stays ahead of the curve, but I thought that read was interesting because Petrino does appear to be recruiting a similar fast hybrid style defense like the article talked about.

True LBs are a dying bread, and most that would have traditionally fit the mold are being seen as too slow now. Like Barry James and Mitchell Roberts. These guys are being replaced by big Safety/Free Safety types.

  41. Blake Blake says:

    *breed not bread

  42. Hogfan in SWLA Hogfan in SWLA says:

It is interesting to note several fans in this part of LA are expressing concern on why LSU has the top notch SEC caliber talent without the wins. Inevitably they are all reaching the same conclusion – COACHING.

  43. Hogfan in SWLA Hogfan in SWLA says:

OOPS that should have been “several Tiger fans”

  44. Big Boi Big Boi says:

Otis is reporting teammates being offered in the Metroplex. Anybody know who they are?

  45. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

SWLA, I hope Miles can fool them for a couple more seasons. I’d hate to see what would happen if another good coach came in there to use all that talent (a la Nick Saban).

  46. Daniel M. Daniel M. says:

Walt Williams- I apologize if this has been addressed already, it has been a while since I’ve been on the site, but can someone inform me on who this Walt Williams is and what exactly is going on? The second link is his “public apology” for slamming Petrino. What the heck?

    http://capstonereport.com/?p=4998&utm_source=bleacherreport.com
    http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/messagetopic.asp?p=17924340

I saw this article and was wondering if anyone could shed some more light or detail on the situation.

Again, if this has already been addressed and discussed, my bad.

  47. tomt58 tomt58 says:

    Daniel,

I just read the cap stone report article. If i remember right someone posted that, before signing day, that Byron Jones was coming to Arkansas. The post said Byron was not getting of the middle of recruiting violations that Dyer and Mosley were into. It was asked about his source and he did not produce one. I wonder if the situation with walt is what he was talking about. Any thoughts?

  48. tomt58 tomt58 says:

    #

Byran Jones to Arkansas “SLAM DUNK”

Auburn will probably get an investigation from the NCAA out of the way they handled the recruiting of Jones and in the end Turner. Everything was not above the table and the NCAA has been notified.

    By Hog Fan on Feb 2, 2010 @ 6:45pm

Did not remember all details correctly, but this was the post I was refering to.

  49. tomt58 tomt58 says:

Hog fan never did reveal his source.

  50. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Just some thoughts here guys, but I truly don’t believe your giving Les Miles enough credit for what he’s doing at LSU.
Sure, he’s made some bone-head coaching decisions the last couple of years, but that doesn’t nesessarily mean they’re not going to be good next season.

Those guys weren’t that far off from being a top 5 to 10 team in ’08.
They just didn’t have a QB worth a hoot. Remember how they kept switching QBs around that season? Remember the QB Miles had to kick off the team that was supposed to be a future all-american QB?

Last season, (’09) with an established, but still very young QB, LSU was much improved.
They had one of the best defenses in the country and also a very good running game before the injuries (Scott and Williams) started to take their toll.

Has anyone even bothered to look at who they’re returning at key positions this coming season, and what new recruits they have coming in? You might want to take a good look before you start counting them out of the Western div. race.
I wouldn’t bet all my money on LSU finishing behind Arkansas, just because Les Miles’s coaching skills look questionable.

By the way, didn’t we have a guy like that coaching here for a few years? Even he was able to take his teams to the SEC championship game a couple of times with a few good breaks. What makes you believe Les Miles can’t do the same with even better overall talent? Think about it.

  51. Daniel M. Daniel M. says:

Thanks Tom. Things just seem a little too weird.

  52. ArmyHog ArmyHog says:

No one is saying LSU doesn’t have a shot. Honestly, they SHOULD be the 2nd best team in the SEC West next year. That’s what makes Miles such a questionable coach. The team’s level of talent is high enough to overcome his bad decisions and still beat most teams. There are A LOT of coaches that could win a NC with the kind of talent he is sitting on.

LSU will continue to be good as long as the in-state kids continue to go there, along with some of the east Texas talent. If you ask me, it is the most ripe recruiting ground in the country. Louisiana has one of the highest numbers of D1 recruits and only one major university to recruit them — LSU. States like GA, AL, MS, SC, FL, TX, etc have a lot of talent too, but they have more than one major program competing for the talent. Arkansas only has one program, but we just don’t have the volume of in-state recruits like LA. It’s a fact of life.

The bottom line is that Les Miles should be doing a whole lot more with the talent that he has, and I am a huge fan of his because of it.
