Around 25 to 30 recruits entered Bud Walton about 15 minutes ago along with all of the coaches, including Coach Petrino.

Looks to be a good mix of  skill guys and some very good looking offensive and defensive linemen.

I saw the name tags of 2011 RB Kody Walker and  2012 WR Dorial Green.  Will post others later as I see them.

****1: 09 update

Here’s a few others I saw, 2011 CB Bernard Thomas Blue Springs, Mo. and of course plenty of the Arkansas guys, Kiehl Frazier, Brandon Allen, Brey Cook, Marcus Danenhauer and others.

**1:45 update- A couple others I saw were OL Travis Bodenstein and TE Chris Barnett

** 2:28 update- 2011 C/F Hunter Mickelson is here.

***10:18 update- Hog signee /WR Javontee Herndon was on hand for the game  while on his official visit.  Jonesboro punter Weston Cox has agreed to walk-on at Arkansas.

  18. Andrew Andrew says:

In addition to their formula, Scout also assigned a letter grade to each class, according to this post from Chris Low (http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/8718/ranking-the-sec-recruiting-classes). B- seems about right. It’s nowhere near as bad as the 48 Rivals gave us.
I’ve lost my faith in Rivals, which is my soapbox for the moment. Look, “I’m an engineer, so I know when the math “works”. Look at Boston College, who’s ranked immediately ahead us. They have no 5-stars, like us, fewer 4-star, fewer 3-stars, fewer recruits, AND a lower average star rating. How on Earth can a “fair” system have a class like that ranked ahead of us? Our class also compares favorable with #40 BYU (the only thing they lead us by is number of recruits), yet their scores is 200 points higher.
Apparently, the Rivals formula was developed by a statistician at UC-Berkeley. Stephen, I demand you get some answers. Get some interns on it before your fire this batch.” –quote from another Arkansas sports blog on recruiting

  19. 9-WinsSuitsMe 9-WinsSuitsMe says:

    Posters,

Any season of 9 Arkansas football wins is remarkable in the SEC. I’ll always consider it quite an accomplishment if the Hogs win 9 games, with the bowl game included.

When we play Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Georgia next year, I hope we knock off one of those Top SEC teams.

Only once or twice every 10 years can we “hope” to win 10 or more games.

  20. Andrew Andrew says:

That shows recruiting sites are complete bull.

  21. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

I believe when ranking the top 15 to 20 classes, the major recruiting services are probably as accurate as anyone. After that, it get’s pretty fuzzy.

What’s the difference between 30 and 40? Anyone know?
Team needs, how that recruit fits into a paticular system and recruit exposure are all important aspects, but none of them are figured into the rating/ranking equasion.

Also, several of CBP’s past recruiting classes at Louisville were re-evaluated recently. They were rated very highly.
So for all of the folks who repeatedly blast this class, based on the rankings alone, that means you also have to recognize the updated rankings as well. There’s no way around it.
So, based on that theory, (CBP’s recruiting reputation) we should all be very excited about this class.

  22. Ron in Germany Ron in Germany says:

    My guess would be …….. ummmmmmmmm……… 10 ? ;)

Just messin’ with ya. I am in a great mood for a change !

  23. Firehouse Firehouse says:

Petrino said they’re not “internet recruiters”. They trust they’re evaluation over coach wannabees running recruiting services. LSU said Petrino staff evaluations were more accurate by stealing Armand Williams. Same point made by Penn St & Wisc trying to flip 3*Chris Smith & Nick Satan visiting Byran Jones only days before NSD.

  24. hog fan in florida hog fan in florida says:

Well chiren…it like dis…USC Trojans keep on gittin them there five star kids…umm they had a so so season…and got whupped by Oregon et al….So I think I will trust CBP…not the stupid start system.

  25. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

What many of you are failing to realize is that no one is knocking Petrino’s evaluation. It’s him getting beat on the guys he evaulated and offered first. An example is the Joeckel twins. We offered a lot of 4-5 star guys last year. We got beat on most of them. That’s the complaint.

  26. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

Roger, what did USC do the 5 seasons before last year?

  27. Ethan Ethan says:

I think Petrino tells the kids the truth vs. what they want to hear. That is going to put him at a disadvantage, but will also insure he gets the kind of kid he wants. Hard working, disciplined, and athletic. He may miss on alot of kids because they don’t want to hear about how hard they are going to have to work to earn a spot, but they will have the chance to be part of something specials because of there hard work.

  28. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

We recruited for depth this year more than anything. The last 2 years, we didn’t.
Look at the starters and the main backups hitting the field last season. A large portion of them were members of those 2 classes, which is a direct result of CBP and his staff completely starting over with this team, with HIS players.

No one is saying we didn’t miss out on the highly rated recruits early on. We did, but under different circumstances.

QB was loaded. I’m sure the 4 star Jockel kid noticed that, plus he and his twin brother were a package deal.

RB was loaded. I’m quite sure 5 star Dyer noticed that too.

WR was loaded. 4 star Marcus Lucus took notice.

Defense and STs were our main concerns. We added some nice depth to our LBs and DBs. Most importantly, we got who we wanted for the most part at DT.

Yeah, yeah, I know, Florida, ‘Bama, Texas, USC, etc…, get who they want, no matter what the depth chart looks like, right?
I just have to ask, is our program on that level yet? What’s the complaint? Because we’re paying CBP a top 10 coaching salary, he’s supposed to just snap his fingers and make everything different, right?
In 2 seasons of completely rebuilding and 3 recruiting classes later, right?

  29. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Oh yeah, and we still got a very nice kicker/punter to sign with us, even though the 1st very good kicker/punter decommited and left for Austin, Texas. I’d say the staff did very well, considering the circumstances.

  30. Hawgfan100 Hawgfan100 says:

“We offered a lot of 4-5 star guys last year. We got beat on most of them. That’s the complaint.”

And your theory on why we ‘got beat’?

  31. oldhog oldhog says:

My theory is they wanted to go to school somewhere else!

  32. oldhog oldhog says:

An example is the Joeckel twins. We offered a lot of 4-5 star guys last year. We got beat on most of them. That’s the complaint.

    By MRPRFCT on Feb 6, 2010 @ 5:01pm

Those guys are from Texas and they wanted to go to Texas A&M.

  33. Boubalos Boubalos says:

Four years from now, we will see who got beat. When the Hogs eleven line up against the eleven from all those other teams we will know but not until then, One would think that all this crying abut 4 and 5 stars would stop. If we got beat so be it.

  34. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

We aren’t loaded at QB. Mallett will be gone a year. Wilson has issues, but could end up being good and Mitchell is a project. Maybe Mike Sherman brought up Brett Favre. I don’t know.

  35. Firehouse Firehouse says:

I’ll take Allen and Frazier over the Jackel Twins.

  36. HogFanBrad HogFanBrad says:

Speaking of QB depth, are they gonna do anything with Youngblood. He has all of the measurables to make an impact somewhere on the field. I know they had him temporarily as a reserve TE, but surely he can play somewhere. Might be good in the shot formation? Any thoughts???

  37. el mastro el mastro says:

AAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! These guys do not even have any stars what is coach thinking?

  38. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

Actually, these guys do have stars, but thanks for the lame sarcasm anyway.

  39. HogInBama HogInBama says:

    Where do they have stars?

  40. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

    ESPN has started raring them
    already and so has scout.

  41. GonzoHog GonzoHog says:

Let me guess, it’s the I phone again, right?

  42. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

Yes. If I make typing errors it’s the iPhone.

  43. PK PK says:

AR kids are all over the ESPN 150 for 2011 already… i’m interested to see what coaches will end up at AR high schools next year recruiting

  44. MRPRFCT MRPRFCT says:

Nutt and Malzahn will be all over Arkansas. Let’s hope
    they’re not successful.

  45. HogFanBrad HogFanBrad says:

Arkansas kids are all over the ESPNU 150 “watch” list. This does not mean that will all make the “cut”. Even still this is very encouraging if you trust their “grading” system. I mean when you see one kid rated as the 35th best WR and another rated as the 48th or even 102nd best WR how much difference is there really? Consider how many WR’s there are in all the high schools across the country. I don’t believe that they take a hard look at all of these kids. I do however believe if they are rated high that they are probably very good. I just don’t believe that they rate them accurately.

Ill believe it when i see it on the field.

  47. hog fan in florida hog fan in florida says:

Mrprfct…my total disdain for Pete Carroll and USC colors my perception of what they do. I know Pete piss boy is gone and all that.
But it is true that is it a cycle…in my years I have seen the very best rated teams get their jocks handed to them on the field. So, in one sense, having top players year in and year out like Florida has is important. But I see them not having a great year next year. I base this on the cycle theory and the fact that teams like Arkansas will be in top form and beat them next season. This is my humble opinion.

  48. Snake Snake says:

Don’t forget that there is a possible lockout in the NFL, so Mallett isn’t gone yet. I expect them to get a deal done but just pointing out the obvious for arguments sake.

  49. Bigfoot Bigfoot says:

You want to stop Malzahn and Nutt? Just beat ‘em on the field!! It’s that simple.

RIG, good to see you back.

  50. Blake Blake says:

Richard what did Herndon think about his visit?

Also did you get any good vibes off of the 2011 recruits about them having really high interest in the Hogs?
