I noticed on the site that there was mention of McKnight, Barnett, Coleman, and Robinson. Either I missed them or they are absent. Am I missing something on these guys?
Isn’t Turner from Junction City also?
I meant to say NO mention of those guys.
Thanks for the information Richard
I’m going to guess those are the ones he confident in saying will probably be Hogs.
He says at the top those are guys that have made committments to Arkansas during the year.
He has some “maybes”on there. But, regardless, I appreciate how hard Richard works to keep us informed. I look forward to every post!
Jennifer Godwin is putting together all the info on the kids and will be updating the list as the night progresses.
She did a great job last year and has some new ideas that will be revealed on signing day.
Thanks again Jennifer.
Will Russ is a Texas commit and Williams is an LSU commit.
In reference to the article link at the top of the page.

She’ll be updating the list.
Did Russ commit to Texas this weekend?
Old School Dad, Yes he did.
How many other commitments should we worry about committing elsewhere? First name that pops up for me is Brown. Next is Welch. Who out there do we really think we’ll flip?
what about byron jones from juction city, dt i believe.
I hate that, but it tells you about kids when they pull stuff like that. After spending 30 years in the school business, I can tell you not to put too much stock in what young people are saying. They seem to take whatever seems the most beneficial to them at the time, regardless of the ramifications on their word. Some may call it Situational Ethics.
We’ll still have a good class of kids who really WANT to be Razorbacks!
Bummer on Russ. He could have been a game-changer for next year as punter and kick-off man.
This would make getting Bryan Jones that much sweeter.
OK, I’m over Russ. Here’s what I am going to say. I now our coaches are doing the very best they can. We’re still probably a year away from where we need to be. Whoever we get will deserve our very best. I’m not going to expend any energy on who doesn’t want to be here and I’m going to celebrate those that want to be Hogs!! Welcome to Hogland, fellows! We’re glad you are coming!!!!!!!
Interesting read.

We have a few gems in this class, but now looking at it overall, it is an average one…and now I agree with Mrprfct, this is below what we got last year. The two defections of Williams and Russ bothers me greatly. If we are considered an “oh well I might as well” option, or myabe Texas will offer type…we have a long way to go in getting top caliber athletes. Again though I need to back my emotions out of all this…I am too old to get excited about what a kid may or may not do.
Richard,
Love the new design of the National Signing Day/recruiting site. Great job!
Last year we got Hamilton from Texas this year they got Ross from us, I think were still one up on them! LSU came in late and flipped one of their home bouys, how can that be totally unexpected? In reality it would have been suprising for us to have pulled off the above two recruitments with the teams we lost them to having the last shot at them! While dissapointing, I don’t see how it makes this years class any less exciting. Those two will be replaced by two others eventually and I doubt the total difference will be that great. Go Hogs!
to me these two latest losses (flips) in Russ and Williams is not too big of a deal when it comes to the individual guys. We’ll get a WR and K somewhere else.
However, it just seems to be a momentum killer…sort of bad press. You would really like to have a bunch of momentum and hype going into NSD when you still have some other guys out there riding the fence. You want it to seem like the place that everyone wants to be, not the place that people are leaving for other schools.
I believe the loss of Russ will end up being huge.
I sure hope we’re able to land Byran Jones.
I don’t believe Shon Coleman or Calvin Barnett will flip schools, but I’m still holding out hope for Damien Robinson.
If we could land both of those 2 kids, all would be good.
Richard, Byran Jones a 3*???
Guys, I know things look bleak right now but everyone needs to stay positive. There are good things here ! Dont bring others down with the blame game and I told you so’s. Today I woke up breathing and that’s a good thing !
Go Hogs ! Close strong ! WPS ! ! !
Does anybody know when the next signing day is for Basketball ? JUCO to be specific .
Hey DVD how can you have posted @ 2:31 am when it is only 12:46?
AM – PM
Uh oh maybe DVD is one of my “aliases” that B9HOGFAN, OKOFCOURSE, MRPRFCT(clone) thinks I have.
There wasn’t enough notice to find out and listen ! I missed it !
oh wait, never mind. Sorry.

Don’t drag me in the mud with you !
Are grades an issue with Courtney Gaston?
Please don’t tell me Courtney Gaston is at risk, next to Smith from NC Gaston is the recruit I have the most hope, I think he could be a great LB
Gaston is a grade risk. Also, Welch already decommitted per several sources. LaCraig Brown will be a Hog.
I really think tomorrow we could sign Byran Jones, Alan Turner, Jonathan McKnight, Brandon Denmark, Calvin Barnett, Damien Robinson, and Shon Coleman. We also still might offer Devin Clark and Sean Watson and I think they would both commit if offered. It is also being reported that we are making one final push for a WR/CB/ATH that we went after earlier and who knows what he is thinking.
If we finish tomorrow with a bang all of you guys will be singing to a different tune…even Mr. P.
i was curious about that myself, jay.
must of seen the report of “if and when gaston gets to faye” as well
I have a bad feeling about tomorrow. I don’t know why. If you look at my posts, I’m typically the optimist. Not feeling it this year. I see us getting McKnight and Denmark. I think we lose the rest. I don’t know why. Just my gut feeling on this one. Sure hope my gut is wrong.
Reading Denmark’s quotes in Richard’s article today leads me to believe he is going to Illinois.
Interesting that we have major schools stealing our commitments. I honestly say that this is a totally new situation for Razorback fans. Lost a player to LSU and Texas. Says a lot about Coach Petrino and his talent evaluation. I firmly believe that if we can win the WEST next year, these kids will be staying with Arkansas instead of going to the bigger named schools.
Everybody needs to embrace these recruits and show them some love. Prove to them that Razorback fans are the best.
We are going after Wingo cousin. I think his name is Marquise Hill. I think I spelled his first name wrong. He is committed to the Gophers but is considering changing to the Hogs.
Richard seems to be quite optimistic on the “olive trees”. Hope he knows something we don’t. That would be such a huge “get”!
Hey MrP,
I’ve sure missed you. How is everyone back on the Mothership? When you go back there tell them I said Hi.
OKOFCOURSE
Notice how silent all these doomsday posters are with their inside information and reliable sources! LOL
OSU has a story on their site talking about how much Barnett is looking forward to being a Cowboy; are we still after him ?
I thought we had a bunch of kids that are 5.6/5.7 3*s with 5.8 being 4*. If this is true than this class could be a steal.IMO
It is like Christmas Eve. Just can’t wait until tomorrow to see what we get.
A lot of conflictual information on our big targets we have left, but recruiting is confusing always.
I hope we land them all, and Petrino takes that podium tomorrow for his NSD press conference with a big smile on his face.
WPS!
Blake..I saw you were the one to bring the Marquis Hill name back form the dead during the blog. What do you think??
Just wanted to see what Richard had heard. It is another interesting thing to look out for.
I am really anxious to see what special thing Bennett and Barnett have in store for their press conference.
If we sign Turner from Junction City then we know Petrino isn’t above doing the “package deal”.
For those who missed it, you can watch the replay of the chat by following the link: http://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2010/feb/02/live-chat-recruiting-guy/?razorbacks
Thanks for joining us today. The response was tremendous. Much more coverage here on Richard’s blog and WholeHogSports.com tomorrow as the letters of intent start rolling in.
Thats your view on it MRP. I can see where you are coming from, but at the same time that does not mean that it is a package deal for certain. The Hogs may have been talking with Turner for a long time and just finally offered. But if it is. I would rather take this package than the previous package.
MR PERFECT…YOU HAVE GOT TO BE THE MOST NEGATIVE PERSON I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. BACK TO “CAPS” ON PURPOSE FOR THIS POST!
Oh well Jay, we knew you were offbase from the git go!
For all of you worried about our recruiting ranking — a friend of mine just sent me these links. This is kind of what I have been thinking or hoping over the last several months and it appears now my hopes have some foundation.
I thought this was interesting….Petrino’s recruiting classes re-ranked (look at what they were ranked in that year)
’03 Louisville
http://cfn.scout.com/2/615853.html – #9 original rank #48
’04 Louisville
http://cfn.scout.com/2/726003.html – #14 original rank #54
Hope this helps your blood pressure.
I’m not against package deals so how is that negative? I’m all for getting Turner if it means getting Jones.
I guess the reason people see package deals as negative in come cases and not in others is when the deal is perceived to have been made by the coach or insisted on by the player.
Notice I said perceived, because most times people just get an idea and run with it.
This post is awaiting moderation I’m guessing for the links to Scout. Here is is without the links.

Marquis Hill would be a huge pick up! His youtube highlights lead me to believe he is a special talent like Eric Bennett and Marquel Wade. Kids that can return punts like Wade and Hill tell me all i need to know. I like that Richard said he felt good about Calvin Barnett but if he can`t qualify he can`t help
Whether B J comes or not , Alan turner is the real deal !!!!!!!!!!
shageeee you know I agree with you that Turner appears to be the real deal.
He has been the starting RB for Junction City to go with where he plays on defense. He is a winner and he has very good size for the position he projects to play in the secondary.
His offer sort of came out of the blue and people were not familiar with him, but from everyone that has seen him play I have heard really good things.
I will take winners every day of the week.
I`ve also seen highlights on Alan Turner he definitely is not a wasted offer I can see him playing the “jack” position.
If offering him wasn’t to sweeten the pot for Jones, why didn’t we offer sooner?
Turner and Jones are neighbors FYI.
We are filled with terrific athletes/CBs/Sftys/Wrs, Krs/P are great pickups, along with a couple of OL and an athletic QB. I appreciate those areas that were filled.
But the truth is that the DL and LB, TO THIS POINT, are in poor shape. (I did say, to this point) No one can dispute me on this. No one.
I do love C.Smith(either @ LB or De)
Well we seemed to be interested in a few of JC corners and other corners so maybe we didn’t have a spot for him at first. Duno. But even if it was to sweeten the pot I am hearing nothing but good things about Allen and so I like this deal.
They grew up together. They both live on New Home Rd. Does Turner have any other offers?
Matt, I disagree, but I’ll wait to see who we sign tomorrow.
Mitchell Hefley and Gatson all project to be possibilities at LB.
And Big Tex always has that chance of being on the DL.
Tomorrow we need some top DL and good athletes and we will be looking good for this class in my eyes.
But the truth is that the DL and LB, TO THIS POINT, are in poor shape. (I did say, to this point)
By Matt on Feb 2, 2010 @ 3:01pm
————————————-
I agree with that. If Beachum ends up at DT and Hefley plays LB then it is a little better, but we definitely need more depth at those positions.
I’m all for strong finish Blake!
MrP what didn’t you agree with?
Go Hogs!
I forgot about Mitchell.
Sorry I transposed.
I meant Gaston. I think he has the opportunity to be a nasty LB for us.
On Smith I think he will be that DE/LB hybrid the coaches said to him they would like him to be. However, the moment Penn State offered him I realized what kind of true LB this kid probably can be if they saw it in him. They are LB U, and that says a lot to me.
Matt, I’d like to see who we sign before I give a per position grade.
Sorry MrP — I’d like to see them play before I give them a per position grade.
See them play my hind foot; I’m scared to death and need to know what MrP thinks!
Mr. P why do so many people bash you on here? You are only giving your opinion.
That’s what happens when your name is “perfect” people have expectations
PoppaPig,
It won’t take you long to realize why we bash on MrP.
I give my opinion and sometimes it doesn’t make ppl feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
My mom is an old friend of a lady in Junction City that owns a Daycare that Byran Jones’ cousin attends. Anyway the owner asked the cousin’s mom (Byran’s mom and this lady are sisters) who told her that she had dinner with her sister (Byran’s mom) last night and that not only is Byran going to be a Hog but that he now has convinced Michael Dyer to come with him to Arkansas!!!!
Happy Days Are Hear Again…yada yada yada!!!
I was not bashing. See my ealier post. It seems that Petrino has a knack for evaluating talent where others don’t see it or he has a way of developing talent.
I thought this was interesting….Petrino’s recruiting classes re-ranked (look at what they were ranked in that year)
‘03 Louisville
rerank – #9 original rank #48
‘04 Louisville
rerank – #14 original rank #54
poppapig, you’ll also notice I never bash those guys. I don’t reciprocate the attacks.
Oh come on I’m just kiddin’ folks.
But I do agree with Mr. P in that it would be interesting if we take both the Pettycoat Junction boys when the two LR boys might would have come with an offer to both.
Did I misread your assumption Mr. P or was this basically what you’re contemplating?
This is a blog. Everyone is allowed to voice their thoughts. If everyone was saying the same things, it would make the blog boring. Mr. P is just adding spice.
Now how many times have we been told not to say never and always?
I’m warm on the inside and fuzzy on the outside…does that count??
BC, That’s some of the best facts I’ve read on here
Well I’ve Never said “always” and I’ve tried my hardest to always steer away from “Never”.
Is arsenic an acquired taste?
Sorry boys I’m excited…NSD is tomorrow…WHOOOO PIGGGG SOUIEEEE!!!
I don’t know if you guys already talked about this but I was wondering if CBP hired the new coaches expecting to recruit more on the west coast. Most of the major universities are on the east side of the Mississippi. So there are alot of schools chasing after the same recruits. By recruiting more out west, we have less big schools to fight for some major talents. Sorry guys, this is a slow day for me and this just came across my mind. What do you think?
Those “facts” are from a couple of Scout articles. I’m not sure how they went about rerating but it was 4 years after the fact. They actually had Ark at #5 in the reranking of the 2004 class. Here is part of what they said about that class.
“Witness the Hogs’ 2004 class, which is substantially better after four years than most observers predicted. The headliners were Luigs and Anderson, who went from 2-star afterthoughts to a Rimington Award winner and a high first round draft choice, respectively. Hits: C Jonathan Luigs, DE Jamaal Anderson, FB Peyton Hillis, S Michael Grant, WR Marcus Monk, LB Freddie Fairchild, DT Ernest Mitchell, CB Darius Vinnett, S Randy Kelly, DT Marcus Harrison, CB Matterral Richardson, and LB Weston Dacus
Misses: DT Fred Barnett
Final 2004 Ranking: No. 27″
I think coach K will be good whatever area he is given. He seems to relate well to the recruits. Everything that I am hearing on the 3 new is very positive. Here are Richards comments, “I’m sure coach P and staff will look back and make any changes they see that are needed .. I think Caldwell and Cinkovich and Coach K will be good recruiters. They’ll have all of next year to build relationships.”
No Coleman and no Robinson….
This may be a dumb question but here goes. I know the NCAA allows 25 recruits per year. The SEC and now the NCAA allow schools to over sign with 28 recruits per year being the max, 85 total players on a team, we now have 20 recruits supposedly committed. Just how many scholarships do we have available to give this year?
This may have been discussed before but being new I have no way of knowing what has been talked about previously.
CodeHog please elaborate. What source are you quoting?
No Coleman, no Robinson…………..old news
Interesting article on Scout about deciphering the rankings. Check it out
Lattimore announcement stream.
http://www.wltx.com/video/livestream.aspx
Just remember tomorrow after the dust settles and we have our list of commitments staring us in the face that these kids want to be HOGS. This is the hand we are dealt. You poker players know that the best hand doesnt always win. Its all in how you play the game.
If offering him wasn’t to sweeten the pot for Jones, why didn’t we offer sooner? By MRPRFCT on Feb 2, 2010 @ 2:59pm
Why does this matter? What makes it significant in any since? Or are you just trying to stir the pot?
Lattimore picks Auburn. Dyer probably burned him out with texts and calling.
nice post, Piggin out.
I don’t like all these weapons Auburn is getting
Sorry, Lattimore picks South Carolina
Bummer for all the Aubies huh!
Great Lattimore is staying in Carolina. Auburn has enough talent
already, their head is swelling to a size 8 1/2. Now if we could
get our man Jones away from them, we would be so happy. Jones
and Turner come on down!
I just read this Pate Forde article that perfectly mirrors my sentiment towards recruiting coverage, rankings, etc.
“Given the uncertainty of what is to come after signing day, it’s best to avoid excessive giddiness or depression based on the quality of your favorite team’s class. In fact, I suggest adopting former Louisville and Michigan State coach John L. Smith’s approach. Annually asked on signing day to assess his class, he had the same basic response:
“I’d give it a C. How do I know? We haven’t coached them yet.”"
The article generally criticizes the audacity of recruiting services and those who live by their stars and rankings. It also pointed out that no Texas school offered Drew Brees, who ended up taking his Purdue team to the Rose Bowl. It also noted that Austin Collie was a non-celebrated BYU commit and that Pierre Garcon was a non ranked prospect who played at Mount Union.
The point is that recruiting stars are more miss than hit on an individual basis and that team rankings are more of a function of recruiting services predominantly parroting slight variations of the year end polls and program prestige rankings.
I think it’s very fitting that Forde used a John L Smith quote.
True Razorback fans should all reflect the same attitude.
South Carolina will win the SEC East.
Bc, you’ve had one of the most interesting posts on here, today, in my opinion. And I quote:
“This post is awaiting moderation I’m guessing for the links to Scout. Here is is without the links.

Very interesting read, bc. Many thanks.
Wow…just like that, eh? Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida are gonna simply let lil’ ol’ USCe take its turn?
No way…
South Carolina could win it MRP but I think they are losing too much on defense. Norwood is gone as is Culliver and Stewart at safety. Geathers the DE went pro early etc. Their offense will be very good with that big TE returning as well as Ashlon Jeffrey at WR with Garcia and now Lattimore. They ways start strong then blow it against UF. I think UF might win the East again but USCe definitely has a shot.
hard to not pick the gators out of the east…however; the West should be quite interesting.
You have a Bama team that has to replace many many parts of their vaunted D, their offense is basically all back , but it was their D that brought them an undefeated NC season.
Then you have an underperforming LSU still with a never ending supply of talent, just no QB really (just a couple athletes)
Auburn showed promise and only looks to be much improved, could prove to be a tough saturday for the hawgs.
MsState should be better in year 2 under mullen
Ole Miss will be a tough out each week and depending how their unknowns step up (and there are a lot of them) they should 8-4/9-3.
And then you have the hawgs, no need to explain what we have coming back and in… i really think that the Bama game will determine our entire year up until LSU comes to LR which could easily have a trip to ATL on the line.
SEC champ game:
hawgs 48
FL 38
The Gamecocks return 19 of 22 players on both their offensive and defensive two-deep; and, other than Vandy, are the only East team to return their head coach, both coordinators and quarterback. South Carolina hosts Georgia and Tennessee, but travels to Florida in mid-November to wrap up SEC play.
I have complete faith they will find some way to goof it all up.
Harbach from Scout thinks that next year is the ole ball coach’s last, Miles leaves LSU after next year, FL wins east, and that Bama will win the west again.
Byran Jones to Arkansas “SLAM DUNK”
Auburn will probably get an investigation from the NCAA out of the way they handled the recruiting of Jones and in the end Turner. Everything was not above the table and the NCAA has been notified.
“Everything was not above the table and the NCAA has been notified.”
Source?
You can’t make contact with recruits during dead periods, but Auburn obviously feels that rule doesn’t apply to them.
Has a recruit or someone close to him come forth with allegations?
You can call recruits during the dead period you cannot visit them in person.
