‘Big Tex’ still a Razorback despite Michigan visit

Arkansas fans voiced concern when Dallas Maceo Smith athlete Jatashun ‘Big Tex’ Beachum made an official visit to Michigan over the weekend for the Wolverines game against Ohio State. But the Arkansas commitment said Hog fans have nothing to worry about.

“I’m still a Razorback. Beachum said.

Beachum, 6-2, 280, 4.65 chose the Hogs over about 20 other scholarship offers after making an unofficial visit to Arkansas during the Auburn game.

While firm with his commitment to the Hogs, Beachum did say he enjoyed his experience at Ann Arbor.

“It was fun,” Beachum said. “I chilled out with the players and that was cool. We just hung out. The coaches were cool. We went over to the head coaches’ house and the whole team was there. We were playing pool and watched movies and talked.”

Like for many Southern prospects, the trip up north did have a downfall.

“It was freezing,” Beachum said. “It wasn’t like Texas weather.”

Beachum didn’t hesitate to mention the best part of the visit.

“I ate real good,” Beachum said. “We ate about five times a day maybe. They had pizza, chicken fried steak and mash potatoes. That was the best part.”

Michigan’s loss to the Buckeyes didn’t keep Beachum from having a good time.

“They didn’t play too well but they played a great team,” Beachum said. “Other than that the fans were great. They all knew me and I signed a few autographs. It was big stadium, I’ve never seen nothing like that.”

Beachum doesn’t have any other official visits planned but does hope to take some more.

“My mom said take all of them for fun,” he said. “I’ve never been out of Texas. I’m going to go to check out other places.’
