Receiver Maudrecus Humphrey was one of the marquee prospects that attended the Arkansas-Troy game on unofficial visit last weekend.
Humphrey, 6-2, 185, 4,34 of Hoover (Ala.) has about 10 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Ole Miss, Louisville, Kentucky and others.
“I liked it,” Humphrey said. “I liked the atmosphere, the facilities, the team. Overall I liked what I saw. The atmosphere caught me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to be that alive. It kind of shocked me.”
Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and linebacker coach Reggie Johnson spent some time with the speedy receiver before the game.
“Coach (Paul) Petrino came and talked to me for a little bit,” Humphrey said. “He said he was excited about me being there and how I could help the program. I talked to coach Johnson on the field and everyone was glad to see me there and it was good to be there.”
With times of 10.64 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.7 in the 200, Humphrey plans to run track while in college. His mother ran track at UAB while his father, Bobby played running back and ran track for Alabama in the mid ’80s before going on to play five seasons in the NFL.
Both parents approved of Arkansas.
“They liked it and the campus,” Humphrey said. “Of course they liked the whole track thing with Arkansas being really good in track. They liked it about as much or more than I did.”
Humphrey said he hasn’t faced any problems with college coaches about running track.
“Most of the schools that I’m looking at, I’ve told them I want to do track and they’ve said that’s fine,” Humphrey said. “They let football players do that anyway.”
Plans to take an official visit to Arkansas in January and is thinking of taking visits to Ole Miss and Kentucky.
