Linebacker Martaze Jackson 6-3, 215, 4.5 reports offers from UAB, South Alabama, Jackson State, Georgia State while receiving interest from the Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Troy, Southern Miss, Georgia and others. He’s also has the attention of the Razorbacks, whom he visited last weekend.
“There were some real nice people, real nice coaches,” said Jackson, who reports a 38-inch vertical. “I like it a lot down there. The most impressive thing is how the team plays as a whole.”
Jackson said linebacker coach Reggie Johnson told him he likes what he sees physically, but wants to study his film.
“I talked to all of the coaches but I talked him a lot more,” said Jackson, who attended football camps at LSU, Tennessee and Alabama. “He said I looked real good. He said all he needs is the film and he said he’s going to look at the film and if the film looks as good as I look that he would want me to become a Razorback.”
The Volunteers appear close to offering Jackson.
“Before I went up to Arkansas, Tennessee called me and they were talking about me coming to a game,” Jackson said. “Tennessee is saying they’re going to offer. They just want me to meet the coaches and see how the head coach likes me.”
Several of Arkansas recruits have mentioned the enthusiasm of the fan base while attending a game as a plus, Jackson was no exception.
“Everyone was into the game,” Jackson said. “When I’m playing I don’t pay much attention to that but it seemed like the fans’ intensity went up and the players played even harder. Even though they were way up the intensity went down. It always stayed at a high level.”
Jackson also was impressed with the Razorback defense.
“Usually you’ll see one guy make a tackle but when they were playing you couldn’t tell that one guy made the tackle,” he said. “Everybody was already there.”
Jackson couldn’t recall his statistics for the season.
“I’m one of those guys that don’t worry about stats,” Jackson said. “I’m in it for the team.”
