Arkansas signed three prospects from Louisiana for the 2009 recruiting class and is back in the Bayou state and recruiting offensive lineman Luke Charpentier.
Charpentier, 6-4 1/2, 305, 5.10 of John Curtis Christian school in River Ridge has 10 to 12 offers Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, Northern Illinois, Southern Miss, Tulane and others.
Hog defensive coordinator Willy Robinson stays in constant contact with him.
“I talk to him at least once a week,” Charpentier said. “I want to set up a date and go up there and see Arkansas. I’m real interested in them. He said how much they could use me and I would be a great asset to their offense. We talk about when I’m going to up there and see the school.”
Like many of Hog recruits, Charpentier watched Arkansas’ win over Texas A&M.
“They killed A&M,” said Charpentier, who reports a 345-pound bench press and 600 squat. “They jumped up 10 to nothing on them and they just beat them bad after that and took control of the game.”
Arkansas’ offensive line play has impressed Charpentier.
“They looked real big,” he said. “I watched them in the Georgia game. They’re a real physical group. They all looked like they were on the same page. That’s what you need when you play on the line.”
Using the internet, Charpentier has done research on offensive line coach Mike Summers.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak to him yet,” Charpentier said. “He seems like he has a good resume and he’s a great coach.”
Charpentier name several pluses for the Hogs, including the fact Fayetteville is smaller city, the tradition of the football and reputation of Arkansas’ business school.
“I love going hunting and fishing,” he said. “I’m sure if I go up to Arkansas I’ll meet someone with a big hunting ranch. I’m sure they have a lot of good hunting spots there. I think the area there would suit me fine when I’m not playing football.”
