Continuing from Friday’s column, here’s more on power forward Darion Griswold.
As noted in Friday’s paper, Griswold plays basketball and football for the Bobcats. As the starting quarterback, he threw for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing over 50 percent of his passes. He rushed for over 500 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Griswold, 6-5, 240, 4.7 has love for both football and basketball.
“I haven’t made the decision but I’m kind of big on both,” said Griswold, who averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds a game in basketball. “I want to do both but at the same time it will be hard. During football season, I think I would be better in football but when it’s basketball season I feel like I’m better in basketball. I’m just confused right now. By the time I’m a senior I’ll have the decision made.”
In football, Griswold is receiving interest from Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe and others. Arkansas, Illinois, Wichita State along with others are interested his talent on the hardwood.
Because of his size and playing quarterback, Griswold said many have compared him to former LSU and current Oakland Raider quarterback JarMarcus Russell.
“That’s a pretty good comparison,” Griswold said. “He’s big time quarterback and that’s great to be compared to him. It’s pretty cool.”
Griswold attended Arkansas’ basketball Eilte camp last August.
“I like the school,” he said. “We went up for a camp and we were just hanging out with the guys. I like the coaches too.”
Griswold said he would like to attend Arkansas’ senior football camp on July 19 but is unsure if he’ll be able to attend.
Being recruited in both sports doesn’t faze Griswold.
“You get used to it,” he said. “I don’t get tired and all that.”
