Continuing from Friday’s column.

Swingman David Rivers of Little Rock Hall said Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas and Kentucky are recruiting him the hardest.

“There’s others schools sending me letters but I pretty much have my mind on trying to get better on my game,” said Rivers, who averaged about 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists a game last season. “I’m trying to get quicker and get better footwork and trying to get a better basketball IQ.”

Rivers said his size gives him an advantage while shooting.

“Most of the time I’m taller than the guards that guard me,” Rivers said. “It’s easy to score most of the time.”

At Little Rock Hall, Rivers played the shooting guard and small forward  but feels the most comfortable playing at guard. He said the attention he’s receiving is nice but he tries to stay grounded.

“It’s always a great feeling but you can’t ever let it go to your head,” Rivers said. “You always have to get better.”
Rivers said his humility comes from his father, Ezell who played basketball for UALR in the 1980s.

“My father talks to me all the time,” he said  ”He hates people with the big head. I always try and make my father happy. He wants me to go to college and do my best. I’m going to work hard for me and him and my family.”

Rivers said he’s open to any style of play in college.

“It really doesn’t matter because I think I can adjust to whatever style the schools runs.” He said.
