Center Delvon Johnson, who plans to report to Arkansas on Sunday and start classes on Monday, is focused on helping the Razorbacks get back to post season play.
“I want to help my team win and get to the NCAA tournament,” Johnson said. “I just want do what I can.”
By working out, the six-foot and nine-inch Johnson said he’s added ten pounds of muscle and is up to 235-pounds.
“I’ve been lifting weights trying to get bigger,” Johnson said. “I’ve been shooting and running trying to get ready for the season. I’ve been getting up every morning doing bench press and squats. I’ve seen a big increase in my bench because my bench was pretty low.”
Johnson said he’s increased his bench press to 255-pounds while doing four or five reps of 225.
He averaged 6.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and had a team high 62 blocked shots for Indian Hills Community College that went 30-3 last season.
Johnson and Jemal Farmer, who signed with the Hogs out of Cloud Community College in Kansas, attended Bloom Township high school in Richton, Illinois and are good friends.
“I’ve been with him about every day, shooting and playing pick- up games with him.” Johnson said.
Point guard Julysses Nobles also said he plans to report to Arkansas on Sunday.
Point Guard Jeff Petersen plans to report to next week.
Guard Jemal Farmer said he’ll probably be reporting in late July.
