Texas cornerback Halston Hayes will walk on at Arkansas in hopes of earning a scholarship.
“They said coming in as a walk-on it’s going to be pretty hard and trying to earn a spot over guys that have a scholarship,” Hayes said. “They said if I come in and work hard and play hard that I’ll have the same opportunity to play.”
Hayes, 5-8 ½, 180, 4.57 attended Elkins high school in Missouri City and decided in May to walk-on.
“I’ve wanted to go to Arkansas ever since my freshmen year,” Hayes said. “I’ve seen them on TV and just been attracted to them. I love the program.”
Hayes earned second team All District honors last year while recording 34 tackles and 1 interception.
Before deciding to walk on at Arkansas, Hayes said he received interest from LSU, Arizona, North Texas and Texas Tech.
