Arkansas signee offensive lineman Travis Swanson earned his scholarship with an outstanding showing at Arkansas’ senior camp last summer. He has seen quite a bit of a change in his physical makeup over the last year. He weighed in at 275 at the Arkansas camp and played last season at 295.
The 6 ’6″ Swanson has bulked up since inking with the Razorbacks in part by using Arkansas’ workout book over the past several months.
“Since signing day I’ve been putting on weight, the good weight,” Swanson said. “I’ve been working in the weight room and running. You can tell when you have more muscle coming on. When you look at me I still look the same but I’m up to 310 (pounds) right now. When you look at me I don’t look 310.”
Swanson said he does four reps of 420 in the squat and four reps of 300 in the bench press while working out.
“I run a mile after my lifts and I jump rope before and after for 10 minutes each,” Swanson said. “I do a thing called the Hog shuttle in the book. You go 15 yards back, 10 yards back, 5 yards back. You have to do that in 10 seconds for linemen.”
In the past, Coach Bobby Petrino told Swanson that he could play center. Offensive line coach Mike Summers has told Swanson to prepare for all positions on the line.
“He told me to learn everything,” Swanson said. “Just to keep safe, I’m practicing my snaps very frequently and I’ve actually got it down pretty well. There’s lot more technique than some would might think.”
