One noticeable attribute of Arkansas’ 2009 defensive backfield recruits was length. The shortest of the recruits Audru Stewart, is listed at 5 feet 11inches.
The Hogs are continuing their quest for length and have offered a big cornerback in Devont’a Davis of Gainesville, Florida.
Davis, 6-1, 190, 4.5 also has an offer from Central Florida and is receiving interest from Florida, Louisville, Indiana, Maryland, South Florida, LSU, Southern Miss and Maryland.
Arkansas wasted no time in offering Davis. The Hogs extended the offer the day after national signing day in February.
I’m very interested in Arkansas,” Davis said. “It’s a SEC school. They’ve won the SEC West a few times. I know they had a good recruiting class last year. I want to be a part of something big.”
Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, who’s the lead recruiter of Davis, stopped by his high school last week. Davis said the two have a good relationship.
“I’ll call him and talk to him,” said Davis, who has a 32-inch vertical. “He’s a nice cool guy. I can see myself around him even though he wouldn’t coach me. I can relate to him, he’s real cool. That’s what I like about him as a recruiter.”
Davis, who recorded about 50 tackles and one interception last season, does quite well in track. He has recorded a 21.8 time in the 200 meters and a 48.7 in the 400. In field events, Davis has a best of 22-3 in the long jump and a 43-8 in the triple jump.
Davis said he hopes to make some visits and football camps this summer.
“I’m going to try and go to Arkansas because I’ve heard the facilities are outstanding,” Davis said. “I want to see what they’re all about. I want to make my decision sometime in the summer so I can go into football season and try to win a state championship.”
