Defensive end Alex Williams 6-5, 215, 4.5 of Tallahassee, (Fla.) of Florida A&M Developmental Research School will decide between Arkansas and Ole Miss on national signing day, Feb. 4.

Williams, who has only played football in his junior and senior year of high school, is also an outstanding basketball player and hopes to play football and basketball in college. He said he recently talk to Coach John Pelphrey about the possibility of playing for the Razorbacks.

“He was talking some good stuff,” Williams said. “He said I would be able to play. I guess he’s seen my film and I guess he liked what he saw. He was telling me my upside was great.  That was exciting, real exciting. Believe or not college basketball has always been something I’ve wanted to do.”

Williams is averaging 17.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.4 assist a game. In Wednesday night’s 85-64 victory over Chiles, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Williams talked to a Rebel assistant coach about playing basketball on his recent official visit to Oxford.

“He said he had seen me play in AAU,” he said. “I’m going to get them some film on me as well. I’ve talked to Arkansas’ coach more than I have Ole Miss’ coach. So that’s a plus.”

Williams, who visited Arkansas Jan. 10-11, said his player host for his official visit was very upfront about being a Razorback.

“J (Jarius) Wright was my host and he showed me a great time,” said Williams, who reports offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Iowa, South Florida, East Carolina and Arkansas State. “He basically didn’t give me any false sense of reality. He showed me around and I already felt like a part of the team.”

Arkansas appears to have a slight lead for Williams’ services.

“If I had to say if I was leaning one way,” Williams said. “I would probably say Arkansas because when I sat down with my mom she was leaning towards (Arkansas) because their academics are on point.”

Ole Miss Coach Houston Nutt, assistant coaches Chris Vaughn and Terry Price did an in-home visit with Williams Wednesday night.

“It went great,” Williams said. “My mom was impressed. They came in with academic facts. It was what I expected it to be and it made my decision that much harder.”

Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and linebacker coach Reggie Johnson were in Williams’ home on Tuesday night.

Williams said he’s developed a strong relationship with both of his lead recruiters, Arkansas assistant coach Paul Petrino and Ole Miss assistant coach Chris Vaughn. He credited both coaches for their loyalty to him.

“I haven’t known them very long but I feel a commitment to both of them,” Williams said. “Either way I go, I’m going to have a plus and a minus.  Both teams were with me when no one thought I was going to be eligible. When another team comes along, I tell them I’m not interested. They stuck with me when they didn’t know what was going to happen.”
