Cornerback Jerry Mitchell, 6-2, 198, 4.5 of Mandeville, La., was offered a scholarship by the Hogs about a month ago. He and his parents were in Fayetteville after evacuating from Hurricane Gustav and decided to take in Arkansas’ practice on Wednesday.

“It was real good, I was impressed with the facilities,” said Mitchell, who reports a 4.31 pro-shuttle time. “The coaching staff is really good and experienced. They have a lot of NFL guys on their coaching staff. I like them because they play young players as well the older players. They just don’t play the seniors but the freshmen.”

He said North Carolina State, Florida State, Tulane, Louisiana –Monroe and others are showing interest.

Mitchell said he recorded 38 tackles, 5 interceptions, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 forced fumble last year.

He plans to visit Arkansas for a game and possibly decide afterward.

“I want to make a couple more visits and decide,” Mitchell said. “I really want to come up for an official visit for a game and see how the fans are and see a game before I make my decision.”
