Here’s more on running back Knile Davis, whom I wrote about in Friday’s column.
Coach Darryl Phipps was just hired in February and soon found out about Davis’ leadership capabilities.
“He came to me and said ‘Hey coach, you need me to get the guys together and talk to them, just let me know.’ He has a lot of character,” Phipps said. “The young man is an excellent student in the classroom. He’s already qualified.”
Davis has made unofficial visits to Oklahoma, LSU, TCU and Houston. He’s made two visits to the Tiger campus, including a football camp.
CBS College Sports national recruiting analysts Tom Lemming said securing Davis’ signature would be a big catch for Arkansas.
“If they get him it shows they mean business in the state of Texas,” Lemming said. “I always thought it was a place they sort of overlooked in the past because it’s right next door to them and there’s so many players there. I think (Coach Bobby) Petrino and his staff realizes how important Texas is, and they’re putting great effort into it. It will help them this year but it will probably help them more in the future because you have to develop that pipeline.”
