Springdale’s Minchew earns Athlete of the Week honors

Springdale High two-way starter Jayden Minchew was all over the field during a 39-12 win at Van Buren on Friday. The 6-foot, 185-pounder caught five passes for a team-high 81 yards and he also led team with 15 tackles from his free safety position.

Minchew's performance helped snap a three-game losing streak for the Bulldogs as they improved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in 7A-West play.

Playoff Picture — 8 Down, 2 To Go

With Friday's football games in the books, we are now through eight weeks and have only two weeks remaining in the regular season.

This is when the playoff picture begins to take shape, and we can get a glimpse at what some teams need to do in order to get into the state playoffs or improve their position.

There are a lot of teams in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette coverage area and still too many situations that could take place, but let's take a look at each team's best and worst playoff scenarios.

Full box: Shiloh Christian 49, Lincoln 0

saints-wolves-full-box There was no need to see the official statistics to know Shiloh Christian dominated every aspect of a 49-0 win against Lincoln at Wolfpack Stadium on Friday night.

The Saints racked up 393 yards with a nice balance of 215 passing and 178 rushing as compared to 134 for the Wolves, including 72 rushing and 62 passing.

Saints senior Connor Reece was an efficient 13-of-20 passing for 215 yards and three touchdowns. His to target was junior Jake Nelson, who caught five passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

Full Box: Springdale High 39, Van Buren 10

The Springdale Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3 7A-West) snapped their three-game losing streak in a big way Friday night, mauling Van Buren on the road in a 39-10 win.

The Red'Dogs jumped on the Pointers in the first quarter and carried a 22-0 lead into the second thanks to three Van Buren fumbles on its first three possessions. Van Buren then added 10 points, including a 28-yard field goal as time expired, in the second quarter and trailed 22-10 at half.

Rogers Heritage-Bentonville West recap w/full boxscore

Junior quarterback Trey Kitterman accounted for 300 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to help Rogers Heritage claim a 28-18 win over Bentonville West in 7A-West Conference football Friday at Gates Stadium.

Kitterman engineered a late 14-play, 75-yard scoring drive that put the game away with less than two minutes left. The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder scored from 3 yards out on the keeper for the final touchdown, his second running touchdown of the game. Heritage (1-7, 1-4 7A-West) snapped an 18-game losing streak.

SPRINGDALE – For the first time in school history, Har-Ber was shutout at home. Friday, it was all Fayetteville at Wildcat Stadium in a 28-0 win. The Purple'Dogs defense turned Har-Ber into a one-dimensional football team then took away the pass as well. Safety Andrew Ellis recorded three takeaways himself with a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. Ellis' first recovery gave Fayetteville a 7-0 lead after Payton Copher mishandled a high snap with Har-Ber backed up in its own end zone thanks to a 44-yard punt and two penalties. BENTONVILLE — Canaan Ross threw four touchdown passes, and Kam'ron Mays-Hunt caught three as Bentonville High celebrated Homecoming with a 49-7 rout of Rogers High in 7A-West Conference action Friday night at Tiger Stadium. Jacob Clark's 51-yard run on the first play set the tone for a fast start as Bentonville (6-2, 4-1) scored on its first five possessions and bolted to a 35-0 halftime lead, accumulating 398 yards total offense in the first half.
